To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

F*ck me.

They all looked terrified, and emotional. Charles looked overwhelmed with it. He’s a very sensitive man and probably feels the full force of what he was becoming, and William there in the middle of it, getting a taste of what’s coming his way, whilst his son looked on.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

I’m not really that much of a royalist but honestly, some of you are embarrassingly unpatriotic. Such self National loathing must be so tiresome.

It’s an mn pastime

RampantIvy · 06/05/2023 18:21

I suppose the OP has never had the world watching them the way the royals have been watched today (and picked apart)

When Charles and Diana got married she got his name wrong.

I bet they are all glad that they can now put their feet up and relax.

If you google cue cards coronation it tells you easily what newspaper OP is reading 😁

Considering everyone read from them I would simply assume protocol to ensure all wording was correct under the pressure.

Nope I watched it on tv and thought it looked really odd.

I don't read tabloid crap, I can't anyway as half of them won't load as I have ad blockers on which I refuse to remove!

Anyone got a goat? The trolls are very hungry today. Or a nut cutlet for the vegan ones.

How on earth do you know he's lazy? Kate tell you that when you popped over for a cuppa did she?

The way people think they 'know' stuff is very entertaining.

He looked like someone who knew that at that moment in time, millions of pairs of eyes were on him.

He is lazy. There’s also been reports of how lazy he was at university.

The Lazy Prince: William does 46 days work in gap year

Don't be ridiculous. It isn't "from the heart", it's very specific official wording. William didn't write it himself you know.

Yip. I'm sure Prince William gave his dad from the heart wishes in private.

KingSatsuma · 06/05/2023 18:23

I must have been watching a different show because I thought William looked strong and composed and his presence was a strong support for his dad, who looked overcome the whole time.

If they're nervous then they're in the wrong job

Again - you know they're born into this? Obviously not. It's not a choice, it's duty.

I'm not a Royalist in any way but I respect that the late Queen took her duty incredibly seriously and that her ethic has filtered down the generations.

To them, it would be beyond reproach to just opt out (look at Harry, outcasted).

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/05/2023 18:24

Probably had the card because his mum got his dad's name wrong at their wedding. Safes is best and all that wink

Oh god how much work do regular "toffs" do in their gap years. Christ almighty he is 40 years old!

I didn't mean you. I meant the poster. It was supposed to be PP. My bad on this one.

Though I thought you didn't watch it

I'm sure that's a very reliable, unbiased report. 😂😂😂

michaelmacrae · 06/05/2023 18:11

no, i'm saying the cue cards are there as a backup. W should not have looked sideways and read off them completely, they're supposed to be just there as a prompt. He looked stupid doing so.

No he didn’t. He did very well. And I’m not even in the UK. Our commentators thought every detail of the ceremony was absolute perfection. I agree. Be proud of your country.

YouveGotToGrooveIt · 06/05/2023 18:26

Bloody hell, there's some Grade A whinging on here at the minute

Channellingsophistication · 06/05/2023 18:26

I do know what you mean, as reading off cards makes it seem so less sincere. however, I wouldn’t even be able to remember a single line under that level of pressure.!

Deadpalm · 06/05/2023 18:26

No actually! Sorry yes i meant OP. You showed white to me for a bit for whatever reason

SidekickSylvia · 06/05/2023 18:29

I'm surprised that you watched it, op. Wouldn't have thought it was your thing at all.

Sirzy · 06/05/2023 18:30

I am sure some people just watched it looking for any reason to slag off the monarchy. it’s such a shame televisions don’t come with power buttons!

BeverlyHa · 06/05/2023 18:31

it was fine. Charles could not hide his love and pride.

nicknamehelp · 06/05/2023 18:32

You could do it better I suppose?

Jellykat · 06/05/2023 18:33

Cant see any problem with it myself.. sometimes you gotta do what you just gotta do, to get things right!

Their little discrete interaction was very lovely

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2023 18:34

My friend has been a priest for 40 years. He still reads from the book.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/05/2023 18:35

Well I think it was lovely done, the interaction and warmth and the kiss on the cheek

Didn't look rushed at all to me 🤷‍♀️

willWillSmithsmith · 06/05/2023 18:35

Nitpicking. I would need cards as I’d be so nervous. Were you scrabbling around trying to find something to complain about and thought this would do?
