I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

I'm nauseated at the display of wealth and privilege in such an unequal country. I'm not a royalist at all, it's not about charles or any of them, it's about the institution of the monarchy.

polkadotdalmation · 06/05/2023 11:12

Don't be silly. Turn it off and go for a walk.

overitunderit · 06/05/2023 11:12

I don't understand this "subjects" and "serfs" thing. He doesn't rule over us in any actual sense. It all feels a bit conspiracy theory and dramatic. We've always had a monarch but we are also a democracy. No-one asks you to bow and scrape to him. If you're feeling a bit sick I would have a cup of tea and a sit down.

Q2C4 · 06/05/2023 11:13

What power does he actually have to exert over you?

Sure, but he's just really a figurehead. He's not coming round and demanding that you bow down to him or hand over your home or whatever.

Has the queen ever made you feel like this? We're in a free country. All we have to do is abide by the laws - not committing crimes seems reasonable.

I think that your opinions are odd. The monarchy is a historical and cultural tradition that brings interest, revenue, tourism to the UK. I don't care for them either way but I am surprised you feel owned or like a subject. They don't do anything to you Confused

The people in the royal family don't bring the tourists to the UK. The history of the palaces, jewels, trappings etc do. They've all learned about Henry VIII in school and want to see a bit of that. No-one is seriously coming because they are hoping to see anything of Charles or his family.

lunaloveroo · 06/05/2023 11:13

I flicked it on when he was in the carriage and it just looked and felt so wrong. It's 2023 and it's not a fairytale movie. Reminded me of a film my dd watches- princess switch.

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/05/2023 11:13

I don't want him as king.

Surely you have felt like throwing up since the Queen went then. He's been in the job a while now.

babyproblems · 06/05/2023 11:14

It doesn’t make me feel ill per se, but I do cringe at the pomp when so many people are struggling. It seems v bad taste to me. I don’t know what will happen with the royal family but I can’t help but feel in a few generations time it will be so unbelievably out of touch that it will be impossible for them to continue as they do today. Such a show of gawdy wealth I find it so cringe!!!

The king does not really rule anymore. He has no influence over my day to day life. The government does. If you want to protest anything it should be the Tories!

Yes, I hate the tories, more than the royal family. I actually like the royal family and I'm enjoying the coronation. The way I see it, the royal family and it's history bring in a lot of revenue and tourism to the country. I don't think Charles is going to have any direct control over my life. But the flipping tories will.

CeriB82 · 06/05/2023 11:14

Very dramatic OP. There are ill people out there and you say you feel sick watching the coronation?

switch off and go out for a walk for the next 4 hours.

Ohhh the drama!

Male101 · 06/05/2023 11:15

If your a citizen of the uk he is your king whether you like it or not

MiniTheMinx · 06/05/2023 11:16

I'm not in favour of monarchy. I'm indifferent about who is king. The fact it will be Charlie will have zero effect on my life, and I have no issue with Charles particularly. I do however like the fact he has in the past involved himself with ecological issues and has been prepared to have his say. But its literally a non event here. I'm not going to feel sick.

Theeaglesoared · 06/05/2023 11:16

Must be exhausting being so highly strung.

VioletCharlotte · 06/05/2023 11:16

I'm certainly not a royalist, but the monarchy generates a huge amount of money for the British economy.

I'll save my feelings of loathing for the government!

jammydodg · 06/05/2023 11:17

You feel sick? Chill out seriously!

willWillSmithsmith · 06/05/2023 11:17

I’m watching it. I’m ambivalent, it’s not something I can get my knickers in a twist about. I’m not going to wake up one day feeling like a free person because I don’t have a monarch. I enjoy the Pomp and the clothes, I’m very shallow 😁

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/05/2023 11:18

I don't feel sick so much as bemused by it all and people's reactions to it. It's all frankly so silly and ridiculous. The crowds of cheering fawning flag flutterers feel almost like rent-a-crowd. Or like NPCs in a computer game.

I see this all the time but I've never seen a cost benefit analysis of keeping the monarchy vs disestablishing it and returning their assets to the state.

The land alone that it could free up for social housing....

Noteification · 06/05/2023 11:18

I'm against the royal family, I hope we have a vote to get rid of them soon. There are much better uses of money.
My children insisted on watching the coronation. I'm not watching it, not at all interested. Dont watch it if you feel sick. Email your MP letting them know you'd like them to bring up discussing a vote about whether or not to get rid. Maybe start a campaign to gave them discuss it in parliament on the parliament website? Will be no issue getting enough people to sign it.
Hopefully my children get bored of it soon.

Who we vote for..makes you wonder doesn't it..if we had a democratically elected 'head of state' imagine the scenario..

londonrach · 06/05/2023 11:19

He looks very old and small. I didn't realise how small.

It's like they read a book 'how to be a good peasent'.
Can't understand it at all!
