I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

As someone who had to ask for help from the foodbank recently I don't really get it. Are wealthy people supposed to sabotage their wealth so we can feel better about our lack of wealth?

I just don't go around looking at wealthy people being angry about it or comparing my situation to theirs. The Royal family has always been wealthy. The coronation is a one time occasion that happens once and the timing was just really bad.

But it's also an important cultural tradition that is important to some people even if other people don't like it. The Golden coach already existed. Should they have spent money to make a more modest appearing one?

I think if you were going to be angry at a wealthy person you would be more productive to direct your anger to someone like Jeff Bezos who in my opinion very suspiciously profitted not only off of the pandemic but also off of the recent ridiculously high grocery prices. And while everyone else was suffering built a private rocket ship to space for himself. That is an obscene display of wealth if I have ever seen it.

That was a project that didn't have a specific time table. He could have paused that and did it at a later date unlike the coronation.

Jeff Bozos made his money himself.
The Royals take money from the state. The money they use doesn't belong to them. It belongs to us. Maybe if it was shared out fairly, you wouldn't have had to use a food bank.

But the King doesn't "rule" over us. That's the government which we elect at a general election. You did not study the British Constitution at school did you.

Probably as there is no such thing as the British Constitution! It's 'unwritten.'
The king does 'rule' over us- yes the it's a parliamentary democracy, but the monarch has to grant royal assent to bills before they become law, as the final step before a bill becomes law. Yes it's a formality- but hardly democratic.

We do have a constitution it is an unwritten/uncodified constitution.

I disagree with the OP, I love having a royal family and checking out what they and their kids wear etc. It's just a bit of fun.

The royal family aren't any random wealthy people are they.

Jeff bezos started a business and earned his money.

King Charles didn't earn his money.

The royal family are funded by us, taxpayers.

They just spent millions and millions of pounds on a coronation, when people don't have enough to eat.

Of course it's disgusting

Can't the OP express a legitimate political opinion without you insulting them and trying- and failing- to dress the humour up as 'banter' by chucking in the words 'precious' and 'snowflake' and 'lol.'

As the OP said, they watched a little bit of it only. Just like I'll glance at the Mail and feel sick at what I see there, it's not my fault I find incitement to casual racism sickening, it's the fault of those who write it. It's not the OP's fault they feel sick at the £100m + of their money going to fund a party for the unelected ruling family, it's the fault of that family.

And after all that money spent, the concert was still shit as anyone decent stayed away as they don't want to be tarnished by association with a decaying brand.

100% agree. It’s gross.

Also calling someone a ‘snowflake’ is seriously the lamest and most unwitty insult ever. Just makes you come across as an ignorant Daily Mail reader who is probably racist - these are the only people who ever seem to use this word to undermine someone’s feelings or concerns.

If I turn it off, it doesn't stop it from happening, does it?

The point is that I object to having him as King . I was wondering does anyone else feel the same

Peasants have never had a say in who their king or queen was.

90redbaloons · 09/05/2023 17:12

Why watch it It it has that effect on you? I don't mean that in a mean way but if I know something upsets me, I won't watch or engage with it. I know it still doesn't take away from the fact he is King but from my own experience if I react to everything I disagree, it has a crap effect on my mental health
