I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

OP posts:

I just got so angry, my DH has it on. I've now left the room to do some hoovering!! It's completely anachronistic and is the reason this country is so unequal.

Surely the OP is on a wind up?

She is right, though. It is sickening.

EightChalk · 06/05/2023 11:28

I thought I didn't care, and have been surprised by how viscerally disgusted I've been in the run-up to it. This ostentatious display of wealth and self-satisfaction while people are struggling to eat, heat their homes, keep their small businesses going. I think it was the suggestion of the public saying words of allegiance that was the final straw.

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:50

If I turn it off, it doesn't stop it from happening, does it?

The point is that I object to having him as King . I was wondering does anyone else feel the same

I'm not watching any of it, listening to Spotify at the moment, will have an early lunch and then read my book. I know where you are coming from, I saw that people who were protesting were arrested and had their signs confiscated by the Police, they hadn't done anything illegal unless it is now against the law to protest in this country.

PollyAmour · 06/05/2023 11:29

Watch Netflix instead - 23 Walks is a lovely feelgood film.

Nah there was someone like her on the radio the other day. Really needed professional help to chill out and worry about things that actually matter in her day to day life.

One of the very first vows he made was 'to serve us'. This is a Christian ceremony and he is being commissioned to serve as Jesus modelled, not to lord it over us. It is actually fascinating to hear the words. It is so far from what the rulers of many other countries would see themselves as.

Itdoesnthavetobejusrol · 06/05/2023 11:29

Watching Rishi Sunak makes me feel sick. Watching the coronation is just like watching a very expensive carnival parade really.

tofutti · 06/05/2023 11:29

Yes me too. Another voice in support of OP. I find it sickening beyond words. I wasn’t a fan before but mostly just ignored RF and any media coverage.

I don’t feel physically sick today but probably would if I watched it for any length of time. More like utter disbelief, dismay, and disconnect that this event is really happening, even though I knew it would iyswim

Agreed. I can’t believe people are taken in by this. The RF will be laughing at the plebs worshipping them.

Robinni · 06/05/2023 11:30

I’m not watching. I think he’s a poor defender of the faith as an adulterer. And crowning Camilla is obscene. They nearly screwed up the monarchy entirely. The shamelessness of them. Such a poor example, so selfish and shows they think if they have money they can do what they want.

I’ll watch when it’s William.

The gold carriage was a gift from Australia in the 1988, so cost UK tax payers nothing. All the soldiers on parade...already soldiers on UK payroll
The guests - all staying in London, paying for hotels, taxis and meals, ditto the tourists. All dressed up in their new clothes bought mostly in the UK with 20% VAT on top.
All the hotels are paying wages and taxes, the people paid overtime are spending that in the UK, paying income tax on their overtime and VAT on their spending and generating profit for the people making the stuff that they are buying.
The cost of this is trivial in the national scale and is being paid back in spades.

Without the Royal Family in residence, the nation would still pay for the Royal palaces, they would still have state banquets in them etc etc

I am not a fan of the individuals, but the institution...it's part of our heritage and it does not cost much extra, most of the costs would be incurred anyway, and those that are genuinely extra - flow back to the nation anyway in taxes and extra spending which has a multiplier effect.

The security alone will be costing an eye-watering amount. Re hotels etc. Do you really think those hotels would be standing empty on any other weekend?

I wouldn't be so sure, this is MN when people shake and cry if someone knocks on the door.

lunkitsmum · 06/05/2023 11:30

He has absolutely no power over you in any real terms! It’s an absolutely awesome spectacle rich in history tradition and part of the fabric of the country. It’s made me feel emotional and I’m surprised how proud I feel of being British for a short while I’m watching. I’m appreciating it for what it is.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 11:30

A reported £250 million being spent on this charade. He could have just had a brief ceremony in the Abbey. Instead of this extravaganza.

Well, William and adultery.......just saying.

Charles as Jesus, I’ve heard it all now.

I think with the money it’s cost it is in bad taste as we are going through a cost of living crisis and some people can’t even afford to put food on the table. None of it should be funded by taxpayers money.

Agree 100%

Watching Rishi Sunak makes me feel sick. Watching the coronation is just like watching a very expensive carnival parade really.

I see a Hindi man who’s our PM standing in a church making a speech and think that’s a good thing. It wouldn’t happen in so many countries in this world.

FrownedUpon · 06/05/2023 11:32

Grow up. Why would it make you feel sick.

vdbfamily · 06/05/2023 11:32

I would add that it is not a job/ role I would wish on my worst enemy. Imagine having no freedom do do whatever you like whenever you like and every move of you and your family being front page news.

tofutti · 06/05/2023 11:31

As Jesus modelled- I'm not religious but your obvious omission of a critical part of that to push your narrative is silly.

googlejourney · 06/05/2023 11:32

Oh for goodness sake, this doesn't affect you if you don't want it to.

Get a grip, turn the telly off and go for a walk or something.

tofutti · 06/05/2023 11:29

I'm not worshipping anyone.

But I'm happy with a monarchy for a number of reasons.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 11:32

@lunkitsmum Not true. The Royal Family have had hundreds of laws changed to benefit them. Try living on the Scilly Islands where tenants do not have the same legal rights as a result of this. Just one example. All of this affects real people.
