I feel sick watching king charles

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:48

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

OP posts:

I agree OP

mondaytosunday · 06/05/2023 11:00

I think it's fabulous. My mother lined the streets when the queen was coronated (snd she was Irish). My 17 year old (who is fairly republican) are glued to the tv.

If I turn it off, it doesn't stop it from happening, does it?

The point is that I object to having him as King . I was wondering does anyone else feel the same

Change the things you can change, and accept the things you can't. Just turn it off and forget about it.

Oldermum84 · 06/05/2023 11:00

The king does not really rule anymore. He has no influence over my day to day life. The government does. If you want to protest anything it should be the Tories!

Mustardandchickensandwiches · 06/05/2023 11:00

He doesn't deserve it OP. I agree with you.

It feels wrong in this modern age and I think I've been in denial somewhat that he would actually go through with it. Makes me quite silly I suppose.

My royalist tendancies died with her majesty last year. The rest of the monarchy should have moved on at that point too.

ArbitraryHaddock · 06/05/2023 11:00

Utterly irrelevant and completely pointless, but none of it affects me in the slightest. I’m not watching tv till Tuesday

StarChaserDouble · 06/05/2023 11:01

I feel a mixture of sick and very amused. So glad I watched the Windsors comedy special first. It’s now feeling like a parody/show/meaningless spectacle, which of course it is.
And kind of hilarious.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 06/05/2023 11:02

I don't think I'd ever care enough about something like this for it to make me feel sick. So dramatic

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 06/05/2023 11:02

What do you want? A president? Spiritual Leader?

Anyone democratically elected would be great.

As they are just figureheads and representatives of the country, why couldn't we have someone we decide. A nice kind person who has earned this kind of position and who is cap dothers actually want.

No, am sure no one feels the same...🙄 there's not been countless threads on this, a whole #notmyking movement and protests happening. Given your strong feelings what are you doing about it?

Dwightlovesmichael · 06/05/2023 11:03

Look, I fucking hate the lot of them.

But I’m not watching. I know it doesn’t stop the whole farce from happening, but there is nothing I can do about it.

I’ve got my own worries, it’s not on my radar.

Christmascracker0 · 06/05/2023 11:04

I mean it’s outdated, but I wouldn’t say it affects my daily life enough to feel sick over 🤷🏻‍♀️

makemineadoublee · 06/05/2023 11:04

Just don’t watch it and enjoy the extra day off like everyone else is 🙄

Erex · 06/05/2023 11:04

A lot of us don't care about him at all and would be happier without a monarchy. All we're doing in this house is not watching it, although it doesn't counter the dreadful waste of money.
Most people I know are avoiding TV or at least the channels showing it.

Oh and this!

roarfeckingroarr · 06/05/2023 11:05

Get a grip. The monarchy has very little power. We do pomp so well. Today is a great excuse for a celebration.

mast0650 · 06/05/2023 11:05

I broadly agree with you. But "feeling sick" seems a little much.

ejbaxa · 06/05/2023 11:06

Sure, but he's just really a figurehead. He's not coming round and demanding that you bow down to him or hand over your home or whatever.

I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
Has the queen ever made you feel like this? We're in a free country. All we have to do is abide by the laws - not committing crimes seems reasonable.

I think that your opinions are odd. The monarchy is a historical and cultural tradition that brings interest, revenue, tourism to the UK. I don't care for them either way but I am surprised you feel owned or like a subject. They don't do anything to you Confused

Marchintospring · 06/05/2023 11:06

Meh. I like my rich and powerful where I can see them. If they’re job is to benefit the country in the process much the better.
It the rich and powerful under the radar that worry me. You don’t get to be rich and powerful without powerful self interest.

Male101 · 06/05/2023 11:07

Lol .

How does this impact you in anyway?

EllandRd · 06/05/2023 11:08

Yes he can pretend all he wants, he ain't my King.

He doesn't "rule over us". He has no power over you at all. It's all just a daft old tradition (albeit costing millions of pounds). My own young adult kids barely know who he is, they are completely disinterested in the idea of a royal family in this day and age and can't see the relevance at all. They don't do fawning to randoms.

I don't understand the "history in the making" argument either. They won't be talking about King Charles in history lessons in years to come discussing the wars he won or the countries he invaded or the famous battles, or how many wives he beheaded etc etc.

MalvoliosMother · 06/05/2023 11:09

Don't be ridiculous. You're not an animal. He doesn't own you. He doesn't rule over you. He has v little power over anything important -it's just a rather wonderful part of our history and heritage.
Enjoy the music, the carriages, the costumes. Or switch off. But there's no need to be sick.
Would you rather have some washed up failed ex-politician (that would cost just as much to elect and run) as an elected President?

ModestMoon · 06/05/2023 11:10

I hate the whole thing also and am not watching it. It makes me feel annoyed, but I wouldn't say it makes me feel sick. There's a meaningful sense in which he isn't my king. He can't make rules that affect me or have me carted off to a tower or anything like that.
