I feel sick watching king charles

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:48

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

If we didn't have a King/Queen we would still be ruled over by a head of state. An elected president - look how well that went for America with Trump!

Get a grip. The monarchy has very little power. We do pomp so well. Today is a great excuse for a celebration.

I agree - I'm watching and loving the beautiful ceremony.

Long live the King!

loislovesstewie · 06/05/2023 11:24

Don't watch then. If you don't agree with the monarchy then campaign to change it. If you agree with the monarchy but don't like the King then accept that with an hereditary monarch you get whoever is in line. I'm watching because it's the only coronation I shall ever see. I'm a republican, I don't agree with the Institution but don't believe in personal attacks on individuals.

100% I'm angry and upset. If you're not angry and upset, then you're not paying attention.

What are we suppose to be angry and upset about?

Oldermum84 · 06/05/2023 11:00

The king does not really rule anymore. He has no influence over my day to day life. The government does. If you want to protest anything it should be the Tories!

This. Also I suggest you seek professional help if you feel sick.

Gemstonebeach · 06/05/2023 11:24

It's quite sickening watching someone accused of sleeping with an underage prostitute be part of it all.

I think charles will be the last king though, so I am enjoying the show.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 11:24

An elected president - look how well that went for America with Trump!

Other presidents are available.

Florissante · 06/05/2023 11:24

If it makes you feel sick, don't do it.

lupinlass · 06/05/2023 11:24

Foxglove - paying attention to what exactly? Confused

Op has gone

Head down the loo maybe

Gone off to scream in Westminster Abbey.

Noontimes · 06/05/2023 11:25

To me it’s just a way to boost tourism and Britains image / standing in this world. The queen was a voice of reason and was a good representative of sane, decent, thoughtful British people when politicians like Boris were bringing shame on our country internationally. And Charles will raise the profile of climate concerns.

Economically I think the whole rigmarole pays for itself with tourism and boosting the UK internationally so while I’m not going to go camping out in the mall I’ll happily let them all get on with it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/05/2023 11:25

ejbaxa · 06/05/2023 11:21

Yes they are, those guests in westminster abbey have come to see charles. whilst they are here they will buy food, visit attractions etc. ie they will do touristy stuff and spend money.

Oh come on, that's a daft argument, this is a one off occasion. The whole affair will cost more to this country than the amount they will be spending on a hotel or a few cocktails in a bar or going to the tower of London.

Tinktravels · 06/05/2023 11:25

I am loving watching. Very proud moment for us.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 11:25

The Royal Family have changed hundreds of laws to benefit themselves. They have a lot of power. Otherwise Andrew would be in jail and Charles would be being investigated for money laundering.

tofutti · 06/05/2023 11:26

I agree, OP. I just remembered it was on, tuned in and the sycophancy made me grimace.

All this pomp to disguise the fact that none of this means anything.

’I’m here not to be served, but to serve’. Pull the other one mate, you got annoyed at having to move a pen yourself, you don’t serve anyone except the Firm’s interests.

ejbaxa · 06/05/2023 11:26

Florissante · 06/05/2023 11:24

If it makes you feel sick, don't do it.

Indeed, Charles is not making you watch it. Which kind of proves the point that in reality, none of us are his subjects or animals in the sense that you are suggesting.

RedFlags1 · 06/05/2023 11:26

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 06/05/2023 10:56

The monarchy is a fucking joke.

Just a massive propaganda machine.

Their deal the media, is the only thing that keeps them relevant.

Riding round in a gold carriage when people can't turn their fucking heating on. It's sickening.

The gold carriage was a gift from Australia in the 1988, so cost UK tax payers nothing. All the soldiers on parade...already soldiers on UK payroll
The guests - all staying in London, paying for hotels, taxis and meals, ditto the tourists. All dressed up in their new clothes bought mostly in the UK with 20% VAT on top.
All the hotels are paying wages and taxes, the people paid overtime are spending that in the UK, paying income tax on their overtime and VAT on their spending and generating profit for the people making the stuff that they are buying.
The cost of this is trivial in the national scale and is being paid back in spades.

Without the Royal Family in residence, the nation would still pay for the Royal palaces, they would still have state banquets in them etc etc

I am not a fan of the individuals, but the institution...it's part of our heritage and it does not cost much extra, most of the costs would be incurred anyway, and those that are genuinely extra - flow back to the nation anyway in taxes and extra spending which has a multiplier effect.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 11:26

And accepting a million in cash in suitcases is an enormous red flag for money laundering. If you did the same the police would turn up at your door.

The queen was very very low profile to most of this country. I'm in a large UK city. She barely came near it in her lifetime.

5128gap · 06/05/2023 11:27

Yes OP, its sickening, for the reasons you've given and more. However the responses you've had show that people are largely apathetic about matters they don't percieve to impact directly on their lives. Most people, even though they might share your sentiments will simply ignore it and enjoy the extra bank holiday. Which is the reason it's able to continue.

anunlikelyseahorse · 06/05/2023 11:27

Is anyone truly free? I'd rather be under UK law than in China, Russia or any other tin pot dictatorship. How much freedom is there for women in certain US states where abortion is outlawed?

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 06/05/2023 11:27

What exactly do you think he's going to make you do?
Literally nothing in day to day life will change for you, get a grip

Some have said it's likely to be between £100 million and £150 million. The Daily Mirror put the figure even higher, claiming that £150 million in security costs will bring the total price up to £250 million.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 06/05/2023 11:28

Surely the OP is on a wind up?

Bigmugoftea · 06/05/2023 10:55

I am in agreement with you, sickened by the whole thing.

Yes me too. Another voice in support of OP. I find it sickening beyond words. I wasn’t a fan before but mostly just ignored RF and any media coverage.

I don’t feel physically sick today but probably would if I watched it for any length of time. More like utter disbelief, dismay, and disconnect that this event is really happening, even though I knew it would iyswim
