Dalai llama ask a child to suck his tongue

Has anyone seen the new video of the Dalai Llama asking a child to suck his tongue. Yes. It sounds bizarre. But it is in the news right now. The video is out there. And the dalai llama is apologising on social media now

Im devastated! I went to see the Dalai Llama in India. He gave a speech on accepting and loving everyone, and that it didn't matter what religion we are. I always told people that it was one of the highlights of my life.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

Some people have remarked about this video that sticking your tongue out at someone is a greeting in Tibet.

However - the Dalai Llama kisses the child on the lips in the video, and asks the child to suck his tongue. It does not look right at all.

He has apologised on twitter now.

What do you all think?

I went to a few buddhist meditation weekly retreats in Ireland and the UK.

I liked a lot of things that they talked about. The religion side was about kindness, compassion, that everyone was worth a lot etc.

Then there were also other practical things they did that I was interested in.
They did meditation and mindfulness.

I went to a couple of retreats but I began to get disillusioned and I stopped going. I thought Buddhism was meant to be about kindness and care and connection

But when I went to those retreats I saw people who wanted to be treated as better, because they were Buddhists for longer. They wanted to be treated as a hierarchy and that they had power over the newer people.

For example I went to help to do something.and one of the women said "you can't do it that way , you have to do it my way. I have been here a lot longer than you have"

I also saw people who were volunteers lording it over other people, and wanting people to obey them , they had been there for a long time.

Its like anything. It might start with good intentions, but soon it just attracts people who want power. And then those people abuse other people

You’re not just suggesting it, you’re saying it’s ‘highly probable’ with zero evidence and accusing others of ‘slandering’ him.

You are part of the problem.

It is highly probable. And I have posted evidence. Ta

Posting to a Dementia information website is not evidence he has dementia. HTH

I was shocked by this when I saw the bbc article. But I then wondered - is it a fake by China to discredit Tibet?

Is his Twitter apology also fake then?

I’m shocked that people are dismissing this as uncontextual or dementia.

This is hiding in plain sight.

If this was a Muslim imam, Jewish Rabbi or Christian vicar people would be up in arms.

I would agree with this if it was a 56 year old man. But he's been in the public eye for many years with no inappropriate contact in public. And hes nearly 90 and acting out of character - in public.

I've no idea if he's always been a sexual abuser or not. But he's known better in his previous 80 years not to do it in a crowd.

If this was the Pope or a v famous Muslim cleric I would have the same opinion.

It’s evidence that he matches the profile and symptoms. Hth.

Which is a lot more than you have regarding him being a closet pedophile.

Just read it and came straight here to see if there was a thread.
Absolutely horrified, sickened and appalled.

Have to say I’m not shocked by this, he’s a very influential man in a position of power ffs. What I’m shocked about is the number of posters on here minimising/defending him as though they know him personally. Common sense seems to go out of the window when you idolise someone.

He also made a comment that a female Dalai Lama would have to be attractive. I assume he was granted the role based in his profound handsomeness 🧐

Quite possibly.

No wonder he does weird stuff. he doesn't know what normal is.

how is the dalai lama chosen - Google Search

". But he's known better in his previous 80 years not to do it in a crowd."

Yes, this is the crux of it for me. Dementia is the most reasonable explanation for why somebody would suddenly start acting out sexually in front of witnesses and while they know they're being recorded.

It would be different if this was people from the past coming forward with stories.

What a gift to the Chinese government this is.

Whydothat · 10/04/2023 14:23

@l3ThirtySeven
Do abused kids need less therapy if their abuser has dementia?
If he does it's sad BUT if it is protecting children should have been the priority of everyone who is close to him.

It’s not my job to trawl through a website looking for things that you want to invent to say he has dementia.

Do your own dirty work.

rumpsteak · 10/04/2023 13:44

Where do you get that idea that the Pope is the best person on the Catholic Church? That's just not true and isn't taught. In fact the church teaches everyone is equal under God.

@rumpsteak
Well, the pope is the one that gets to be carried about on the throne, isn’t he? 🙄

Flowerly · 10/04/2023 14:28

What that video shows is the abuse of a minor, very clearly. Whether you believe that the man has dementia or not, what that video shows is an abusive act.

How interesting that, before they can condemn it, certain posters want more evidence, more footage, posit theories that China have mocked this up, post links to dementia websites - all rather than come out and condemn this for the abuse that it is. How/why it happened is almost irrelevant but these people are clearly struggling to see what is in front of their eyes.

And we wonder that raped women struggle to be believed, that the victims of grooming gangs are gaslit and disbelieved, that Savile's victims were slated for compromising the name of a good man who did so much for charity. This was captured on film and it's the same appalling script time after time. Grim as fuck.

ananass · 10/04/2023 14:29

@Flowerly well said

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 10/04/2023 14:29

In recent times, we've had a Pope stepping down, so I guess a Dalai Lama could voluntarily step down as well, even if it would be very unusual. I've just been looking at the stats and it has been suggested that around 4% of people in the general population, mostly men, have paedophilic urges. That is more than I realised.

Changes in someone's brain with age might have a disinhibiting effect such that people act on their urges. Of course, I can't know if this applies to the Dalai Lama.

It seems sensible for religious leaders to retire at a normal retirement age.
