Dalai llama ask a child to suck his tongue

Has anyone seen the new video of the Dalai Llama asking a child to suck his tongue. Yes. It sounds bizarre. But it is in the news right now. The video is out there. And the dalai llama is apologising on social media now

Im devastated! I went to see the Dalai Llama in India. He gave a speech on accepting and loving everyone, and that it didn't matter what religion we are. I always told people that it was one of the highlights of my life.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

Some people have remarked about this video that sticking your tongue out at someone is a greeting in Tibet.

However - the Dalai Llama kisses the child on the lips in the video, and asks the child to suck his tongue. It does not look right at all.

He has apologised on twitter now.

What do you all think?

And I think also it is because I grew up in rural Ireland where there is a lot of corrupt and horrible priests in the Catholic Church

Theyre all over. The Catholic Church is riddled with them. From the very top down.

Ostryga · 10/04/2023 13:37

I don’t care if he has dementia, he should not be in any position EVER to be able to treat a child like that. I can’t watch the video it is too vile. That poor child.

How many children have you asked if they want to suck your tongue? 🤔

For me it would be none, no matter how long someone filmed me for.

ananass · 10/04/2023 13:38

I’m shocked that people are dismissing this as uncontextual or dementia.

This is hiding in plain sight.

If this was a Muslim imam, Jewish Rabbi or Christian vicar people would be up in arms.

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 10/04/2023 13:38

Beyond belief 🤬

It’s grim but he’s never been like that. Inappropriate sexual aggressiveness is a common symptom of dementia though. He what 87? 88?
Think they need to assess his mental capacity right away.

How can you declare, "he's never been like that". Men that are drawn to power & influence are often revealed to be less than altruistic in their motives.

cloud1183 · 10/04/2023 13:39

If somebody who wasn’t famous kissed a kid on the lips and then asked them to suck his tongue he would likely be arrested so why should this go unpunished. It’s wrong and there is no excuse

Florenz · 10/04/2023 13:39

Can the Dalai Lama be sacked? Who does he report to?

Ever again. This is probably the first sign he has dementia. He should be quietly retired from public life now.

Mooshamoo · 10/04/2023 13:40

I wonder will he be asked to step down

Agree that it is horrifying, the worst abuse of power imaginable.

“If even he is an abuser.

There's no one left. :(. This world is dark.”

This is hyperbolic nonsense.
People setting up individuals as some kind of pinnacle of moral perfection and in so doing handing them a fuckton of power only makes it easier for some people to abuse others.

You are suggesting that this one person’s actions means there is “no-one left”?

Ridiculous.

There’s me for a start. I am not an abuser.

Sounds like you have some hero worship going on and maybe should look for the plentiful light in the world of the “ordinary” people around you.

Agree. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who aren’t abusers.

FictionalCharacter · 10/04/2023 13:42

I went off him when he made that obnoxious comment that if a woman was the Dalai Lama she’d have to be attractive. He’s made other misogynistic comments too.

People like this have vast privilege and get away with a heck of a lot that ordinary people wouldn’t. If Dave who works in Sainsbury’s sat a child on his lap and told him to suck his tongue as a “joke”, he’d be at the police station before he could blink. And he’d be a target of hatred for ever.

Very true.

Who teaches us to revere people in positions of authority, influence and power? Men - in positions of authority, influence and power. And why? Because they are abusive.

I am very wary of anyone who seeks to be in such a position, ESPECIALLY among vulnerable (children, the poor) people. Religious institutions are rife with paedophiles. Pedos seek out positions that give them easy access to children and vulnerable people wrapped up in religion and /or poverty.

I am very wary around all adults in positions of authority, like teachers and scout leaders.

SNAFUED · 10/04/2023 13:44

The people clapping and laughing after it too. Wtf?

Just another bad man.

Mooshamoo · 10/04/2023 13:44

In his apology the Dalai llama said he regrets what happened and he likes to joke around with a lot of people.

As someone else said if Dave working in Sainsbury's , kissed a child and said he was just joking around, there would be a lot of questions asked.

Yeah I agree with you. I shouldn't hero worship anyone or think anyone is better than anyone else.

But we are taught to view religious leaders as better than anyone else. There is a hierarchy in religions. The pope is seen as the best person in the catholic church. The Dalai llama is seen as the best person in his religion.

This is definitely a lesson to me that religious leaders are not better than anyone else in any way shape or form

I think I just feel like a total idiot. Because i really thought he was a great person and that what he taught was kindness and compassion. And that he was someone to look up to.

And I think also it is because I grew up in rural Ireland where there is a lot of corrupt and horrible priests in the catholic church.

I really wanted to believe that there was some other religion out there with truly kind people, that taught kindness and compassion. That is why I ended up gravitating towards the Dalai llama and his teachings

Lesson learned.

As I see now, every religion is open to corruption. Every human is capable of cruelty. The idea of religious leaders is not a good one.

Where do you get that idea that the Pope is the best person on the Catholic Church? That's just not true and isn't taught. In fact the church teaches everyone is equal under God.

He doesn’t have dementia.

And i wouldn’t be surprised if more people come forward now.

This reminds me of Gandhi sleeping naked with children to show he was not tempted to abuse them.

NurseCranesRolodex · 10/04/2023 13:39

How can you declare, "he's never been like that". Men that are drawn to power & influence are often revealed to be less than altruistic in their motives.

Are you saying the Dalai Lama, known his whole to be celibate, is some super secret Savile character? How can you say that on the basis of one incident which is clearly a symptom of dementia?

And as for being “drawn to power” and “motives”, the Dalai Lama was essentially kidnapped by monks aged 2 and raised to be the Dalai Lama. He never chose to have his position as a religious leader. He was never drawn to it. Any motives he may have had are irrelevant.

He could. This is a common symptom and he is at an age where it is highly probable.

You think if you keep repeating he has dementia, it will become fact. It won’t, we see through you.

Would you leave your child alone with him?

Choconuttolata · 10/04/2023 13:48

Look up Buddhism the Unspeakable Truth Documentary and the Abusive Lama Sogyal Rinpoche on YouTube. As with many other organisations religious or otherwise there are individuals that can use their power in order to abuse others.

I don’t agree with his actions in any way but he was never “drawn to power and influence” he didn’t choose to be the Dalai Lama

FFS what possible ‘context’ could make an adult in a position of power asking a child to suck their tongue acceptable???? This is never, ever, ever ok.

This. What difference does context make. Urgh another one of these 'gurus' hiding behind religious and spiritual purpose.
