Dalai llama ask a child to suck his tongue

Has anyone seen the new video of the Dalai Llama asking a child to suck his tongue. Yes. It sounds bizarre. But it is in the news right now. The video is out there. And the dalai llama is apologising on social media now

Im devastated! I went to see the Dalai Llama in India. He gave a speech on accepting and loving everyone, and that it didn't matter what religion we are. I always told people that it was one of the highlights of my life.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

Some people have remarked about this video that sticking your tongue out at someone is a greeting in Tibet.

However - the Dalai Llama kisses the child on the lips in the video, and asks the child to suck his tongue. It does not look right at all.

He has apologised on twitter now.

What do you all think?

He doesn’t have dementia.

And i wouldn’t be surprised if more people come forward now.

This reminds me of Gandhi sleeping naked with children to show he was not tempted to abuse them.

That Gandhi thing 😬
very weird, surely what he is saying is yes I find children sexually attractive but I'm strong enough to resist?
normal people do not see children as sexually attractive!!

I don’t agree with his actions in any way but he was never “drawn to power and influence” he didn’t choose to be the Dalai Lama

True but power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, he does in a sense have a kind of absolute power.... I would say?

Where do you get that idea that the Pope is the best person on the Catholic Church? That's just not true and isn't taught. In fact the church teaches everyone is equal under God.

The catholic church teaches that everyone is equal under God? Are you serious. I nearly laughed

No it doesn't. It might have said that somewhere at one point, but the catholic church definitely does not practice that. I grew up in Ireland.

The Catholic church definitely taught that women were worth less than men. There is millions of incidences of the catholic church telling people that women were worth less than men and of them treating women as less than dirt.

Just one example. I work in customer service. A man rang in to me last week to all about his bill.

He started talking about his life and he told me when he was young, he remembered women being raped in Ireland, and then after these women were raped they were seen as being In shame. These women were then imprisoned by the catholic church into institutions called Magdalene laundries and were kept as slaves by the catholic church for their entire lives. Working with no pay. There is a lot of coldness and cruelty in the catholic church.

The catholic church has a long long history of abuse towards women and children. You know that.

It's awful and I'm not watching the video as I can't see something so grotesque and "unsee" it. That poor, innocent child.

Yes, it was probably the fact he was using his position of power etc to take advantage 🙄 Using dementia and other excuses is inexcusable.

You think if you keep repeating he has dementia, it will become fact. It won’t, we see through you.

Would you leave your child alone with him?

It is a fact that this incident is a common symptom of dementia. I don’t see why you are so invested in denying this. My grandfather had dementia at age 76 and developed sexually inappropriate behaviours as a result of his dementia. This is common. This isn’t some rare thing.

No I wouldn’t leave my child alone with any 87 year old! Are you quite mad? They’re often losing their marbles, are frail and and not nearly mobile enough to care for a child at that age.

Whydothat · 10/04/2023 13:55

Grim, nothing surprises me any more though. Just assuming every stranger is an abuser is the best way to keep kids safe now.

There have been no reports the DL has dementia. Stop minimising sexual abuse.

You wouldn’t leave your child with him because you know your child would be at risk of sexual assault. Do you think a young Indian boy is fair game?

Never hold famous people in high esteem. Never idolise anyone.

Yes, he’s gross.

THIS in spades. There should be no sacred castes. But we never learn.

Mooshamoo · 10/04/2023 13:55

Do you think he will be asked to step down. they never seem to ask Dalai llamas to step down.

And they have that unusual system of when the Dalai llama dies, they look for a baby that they believe he has reincarnated into.

But surely he can't remain in his position, after this.

Maybe they will bring in an acting Dalai llama

There have been no reports that the Dalai Lama is a pedophile either, so stop slandering him. I wouldn’t leave my child with him because he is at least 87yrs old. This incident brings into question his declining mental capacity, which is not an uncommon thing to see at his age. Most people his age are in a care home wearing incontinence pads and thinking it’s 1985.

That's what people get when they feel they need someone else to tell them what's meant to be common sense.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

That's what people get when they put other people on a pedestal because they display (in public) what we all should be.

I once met a Buddhist monk who asked a boy to hold out his hands so he could give him something. The monk then spat chewed up biscuits and tea into the boys hand. The boy thought it was hilarious and I saw it as something that kids might do as in a gross gag like ‘pull my finger’ or similar.

I know it’s not the same, but I think maybe there is an innocence there or cultural difference which makes this act as not intentionally sexual on any part by the Dalai Lama. At least I hope.

Completely and utterly misjudged by the Dalai Lama, but not abuse.

You’ve just watched a video of him asking a boy to suck his tongue after getting him to kiss his lips, and yet you”re still defending him.

If it was your child’s tongue he asked to suck, you would be singing a very different tune.

He does not have dementia, he would not be doing these events if he had dementia.

It’s more of the same behaviour, making children do disgusting things because they are in a position of authority.

LegendOfZeldaFitzgerald · 10/04/2023 14:07

Realistically dementia is a pretty likely explanation.

People do need to remember that ancient religions aren't likely to have rock-solid HR procedures though. MNers sometimes appear to think that everywhere works like their very bureaucratic NHS job. The Dalai Lama does not have a line manager.

It's going to be a difficult position to take surely .... after all if he was chosen by God then asking him step down means God has made a mistake, which means god is no longer god, since god is omniscient
God will have to step down too 🤷

I’m not defending him or his actions. I am suggesting a probable cause for his action that just so happens to not demonise him.

He may have dementia. People in the early stages of dementia often go undetected. You don’t go from sharp as a tack to drooling on yourself and wanking in public overnight.

The progression, signs and stages of dementia

Dementia is progressive. This means signs and symptoms may be relatively mild at first but they get worse with time. Dementia affects everyone differently, however it can be helpful to think of dementia progressing in 'three stages'.

You should start a stand up routine with jokes like that.

I really hope some of the posters minimising and excusing this behaviour are not responsible for any children.

You’re not just suggesting it, you’re saying it’s ‘highly probable’ with zero evidence and accusing others of ‘slandering’ him.

You are part of the problem.

Deathraystare · 10/04/2023 14:13

Awww shit! He was a hero of mine!

Everytime a bloke was called out in the media I thought "At least you cannot imagine the Dalia Llama doing anything like that" Ooops!
