Dalai llama ask a child to suck his tongue

Has anyone seen the new video of the Dalai Llama asking a child to suck his tongue. Yes. It sounds bizarre. But it is in the news right now. The video is out there. And the dalai llama is apologising on social media now

Im devastated! I went to see the Dalai Llama in India. He gave a speech on accepting and loving everyone, and that it didn't matter what religion we are. I always told people that it was one of the highlights of my life.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

Some people have remarked about this video that sticking your tongue out at someone is a greeting in Tibet.

However - the Dalai Llama kisses the child on the lips in the video, and asks the child to suck his tongue. It does not look right at all.

He has apologised on twitter now.

What do you all think?

Maybe you don't realise you're doing it IDK

Anyway it's all there to be seen

Can you give some examples?

I agree this looks very much like dementia. My FIL had similar behaviors at 76 and he had dementia. That is not in anyway to diminish the situation, but rather to say those responsible for HH should be taking more precautions and not allowing him to be in the public as much. Until more accusations arise, I will not leap to the conclusion that an 87 year old man is a predator. I’m not sure why there isn’t more compassion for the diseases that plague our elderly, they are so mistreated. To not even consider this might be dementia is bizarre to me.

I’m not sure why there isn’t an ounce of compassion in your post for the child victim in all this?

Your earnest wish not to diminish the situation would be more believable if you showed some care for the boy.

Of course - over the last 5 pages

Maybe refresh your memory

ananass · 12/04/2023 13:37

I can’t see any. Can you point to one?

I was strongly hinting that the poster JJF77 has literally never posted anything on MN so it could be one of the two defenders creating a third identity to shore up their argument.

Through my direct, personal experience of a similar 'organization', the brainwashing takes care of that. Nobody would need to send you to do their bidding or pay you anything.

If anybody out there is a DL devotee and is afraid to leave, then I wish them the courage to do so. Many people (including myself) walked out largely unscathed by it all. The bond you feel towards him and to your smaller satellites are illusory.

I’ve had loads of videos now pop up on my YouTube rail justifying what the DL did.

A lot of them are in Hindi, so there is a concerted campaign for damage limitation under way in India specifically.

Every single time, institution reputation has to be saved, be it the BBC, Girl guides, a political party, NHS, a school Queer theory or bog standard religion.

Every single institution has a high proportion of personality disordered people in leadership. It's just what happens according to experts. They will each have their own area of interest.

Then you have enablers, greedy and selfish for status or money, cowardly, in denial, thinking victims deserve it, only have empathy for the abusers and a whole host of other reasons.

I am sure many have good intentions, believe in the religion, follow it properly and don't want to cause harm to the victim. They will be feeling so let down and sad.

After so many struggles and deaths, people are given the maximum freedom of expression and what do they do with it? Enslave themselves voluntarily to cult leaders and other idols. Makes you wonder.

MyopicBunny · 12/04/2023 15:57

Unfortunately, countless times throughout history have shown that many respected and high profile people have an intense duality to their character which was only exposed later on.

There was, years ago, an MNer who I remember talking about her own experiences of SA and those posts stayed with me. She was from a well to do family and her abuser was an 'upstanding' 'well respected' figure in her local community. She felt that her experiences would never be believed.

It's the ones in denial that they are in a cult that get me, most people in a bog standard religion, group like Scouts or political movement will state that they are, the ones in denial are bizarre, intersectionality/Queer/diversity/inclusion/equality/GrettaCult - they will say until blue in the face that they aren't in a cult and be nasty and condescending abouts other's, it's really amusing. You don't get people who are agnostic or from a bog standard religion quite like the bolshy rudeness and arrogance of those who claim to be athiest yet are of the woke ideology.

Why on earth can't an 87yr old be a predator?? I'm shocked at the apologists on this thread. Brainwashed.

awaynboilyurheid · 12/04/2023 17:00

Totally agree Dilemma,
I’m wary of all those rushing to convince us it’s dementia. Don’t bother coming back to reply that your grandfather had it and acted like this I’ve been a nurse too long to believe you.

Come back in five years and reserect this thread and let me know what's so different about the men in your religion to the men in the other religions.

Sorry I don't follow. What religion am I in?

Hint: I'm not in any of the global cults.

I was raised Catholic though. All that child rape and coverups and continuing child rape kind of turned me off though.

Also careful to not just blame men. You should see what some Irish nuns are guilty of.

I agree. Jimmy Savile was 84 and was questioned by the police in his latter years / months. They just didn't follow it up like they were supposed to.

pickledandpuzzled · 12/04/2023 18:53

Strangely it's the posters accusing others of cultish behaviour are the ones posting obsessively and repetitiously with wildly inaccurate criticisms of other posters and made up backstories to discredit other opinions.

It actually reads a little oddly now. I (at least those of us who have wondered whether dementia could be a contributor to the incident- I won't say 'we' as apparently that was wrong, too...) have been accused of being/having a sock puppet, having no concern for the victim, being a member of a cult, having a slavish devotion to the Dalai Lama, having been sent to sanitise his image, being a TRA etc etc.

MyopicBunny · 12/04/2023 19:19

Well if the cap fits wear it.

I've been reading another forum with a thread on this topic and a few comments on there state that people visiting his lectures 20 years ago also found him creepy. Embracing people for too long and making inappropriate remarks.

MyopicBunny · 12/04/2023 19:22

Oh and if calling out child abuse in the face of others trying to excuse it makes me 'obsessive' then I'm quite happy with that.

While this is hearsay and could be a hindsight thing, it's actually useful information. I'm not a celebrity person, never follow anyone or frankly even recognise them so don't have any personal experience on what he's been like in the past.

Way back when, as a teen in the 80's I suppose, I found jimmy saville deeply creepy but assumed it a persona.
I now find various other people deeply creepy, but think it's probably me rather than them! I distrust charisma intensely.

JennyJolly · 12/04/2023 20:22

The fact is he took advantage of his status in attempting to receive sensual, sexual gratification from a young boy..whatever spin you put on this it shows lack of spiritual, social, human awareness, respect, self discipline,
love and caring which is shocking in someone who is head of his spiritual order.
He should be made to step down..and rectify with the boy's family, offer financial help, support for his future
He should also be tested for dementia and if no dementia etc stand trial for child abuse
Would i leave my grandchildren with him?
I wouldn't leave my dog for even short time.

Lol are you trying to say queer/gay people are in a cult? I really can't tell.
