Dog attack: American Bulleys AGAIN (trigger warning)

CrossBun · 29/03/2023 21:09

(Frequent name changer, not trying to be controversial)

6 year old mauled to unconsciousness in Manchester by a pack of 5 dogs reportedly American Bully’s. Although they’re still investigating.

How many more times? How long is this going to go on for before someone does something? It seems like absolute insanity. I struggle to make sense of this as in how we can tolerate this as a civilised society. It’s so preventable.

Girl, 6, mauled by pack of dogs while playing as brave pedestrians fought them

The girl is understood to be in a stable condition

You can ban them, enforce licences, say they have to be muzzled etc but it will still happen as the perpetrators won’t care and carry on, coz they well ard bruv, morons or want a fashion accessory.

EmmaDilemma5 · 30/03/2023 18:50

YANBU. There are A LOT of things the government could at least try to stop people from being able to own this breed. There may not be a perfect solution but there rarely is with anything in life.

Poor little girl must have been terrified, and now she's going to have to live with the trauma and life long affects.

I personally would outlaw the ownership of them. I would have an amnesty period and then it would be an illegal offence to own one. I feel for the innocent dogs but they'd be culled. There would be enough opposing gangs, neighbours etc who would shop people in. And then there needs to be adequate policing of borders to reduce trafficking them in.

But really, most people wouldn't get them if they were outlawed. What good is a scary dog if you can't parade them around to your friends and enemies? They won't improve your street cred if you can't be seen with them in public and social media without the fear of a prison sentence.

We've outlawed so many things; guns, drugs, under age smoking. I get we haven't done any of this perfectly, but come on. What's stopping this?!

If that was my child who got mauled, I'd be feeling sick to the stomach knowing nothing is being done.

we are talking about animals. not people. animals that we domesticate not to work or to have any other purpose in life than to be our pets and companions. its about time we stopped listening to the fecking fur baby brigade and took clear decisive action. dna test the dogs if they have these breeds and we all know which ones they are in their dna then we put them to sleep. now. no ifs no buts, put to sleep. this would overnight wipe out this breed or any of its offspring. and I really dont give a feck how many non violent dogs, lovely family pets etc this effects because if it saves just one person then its worth it in my view. this has just gone on for too long we were talking about these breeds in the 80's and still it goes on. as a society we are happy to breed other animals to kill and eat and in the egg industry happy to kill all the male chicks at a few days old so we need to cut the crap around double standards and just get on and do it.

@mummymeister

Nope. You can't go around killing thousands of well behaved, very much loved family pets, simply because somewhere in their DNA is a trace of breeds that have become popular with thugs. The dogs that kill have not been trained to be gentle household pets, they have been trained to be watch dogs/personal security dogs/fighting dogs.

I'm vegetarian & don't eat eggs, nor much dairy, don't buy leather. (I used to be vegan, but I'm not now.). Nearly but not quite & it's like being pregnant, either you are or you aren't.

But I can still see there's a HUGE difference between a farmer sending animals off to the abattoir & sending his dog.

cone on now.

Mooonbeams · 29/03/2023 23:20

Fine by me. We don't need dangerous dogs in our society.

@Mooonbeams it's not the dings that are dangerous, it's the thugs people who own them.

MarchMadness23 · 30/03/2023 19:51

MsJD · 29/03/2023 23:27

Murder would mean there was intent.

There could be intent with these people. Maybe not the intent to harm a specific person, but perhaps the intent to harm someone or other.

Yeah, because that's exactly how a murder charge works 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Speedweed · 30/03/2023 19:56

The law should be that if your dog (regardless of breed) causes an injury, you as the owner should be treated as if you did it, so should face a gbh/manslaughter etc charge.

Ricco12 · 30/03/2023 20:38

Dogs need to be muzzled and ok leads in public to try and get control over all the untrained out of control dogs

If you are caught with a dog not complying the dog is seized

Also all dogs must be insured ...this would help stop XL Bullies being popular.

If you dog attacks anything then it's a very high penalty

Breed of dogs unless you are approved and registered need banning

The government needs to take action and now.

I AM vegan (25 years, if it matters), and I believe human safety comes first. We as a nation kill billions of animals every year. Who are fed to zoo animals? Sheep, pigs, cows. Why not feed them dog instead? We need to stop breeding farmed animals, but whilst we have zoos (which I am obviously against), if the big cats have to eat, why not save a few cows/sheep/pigs, and deal with the dog problem once and for all. There is absolutely no difference ethically between dogs and these other creatures. So if one must be zoo feed, and one is a national problem, let's make it dogs, and be done with it.

Dogs and cats are catastrophic for the environment, in many ways, but mainly in that we feed billions of other animals to them to keep them alive, and we all know how damaging animal agriculture is to the planet. I actually think in a numbers game, the most vegan thing to do is to eradicate pets. And obviously farms and zoos.

But people go all outraged at the notion of killing cats and dogs, but not a peep about sheep/pigs/cows/chicken/fish.

Not a nation of animal lovers by any stretch.

P S. You were never vegan. Veganism is the understanding that we don't eat animals or their byproducts. You were just plant-based.

Easy. We put them all in an open prison. Them and their gross dangerous "dogs". Let's see how they feel when their bully breed does what it was bred to do. They want the risks of owning that breed, they should be among other idiots who want to risk life and limb - their own, not innocent bystanders.

Rubyupbeat · 30/03/2023 22:26

@XenoBitch
That's interesting, I never realised they were a mix.

Rubyupbeat · 30/03/2023 22:34

@XenoBitch St. Bernard's can be aggressive, probably not generally, but my dogs leg was broken when one bit her hard and for absolutely no reason and with no warning.

Rubyupbeat · 30/03/2023 22:38

@MakingTheVeganYorkshirePud
I totally agree. There seems to be nothing put in place for rooting out backstreet breeders, I've reported 2 lots, nothing was ever done. These puppies are advertised on pets4homes or Facebook marketplace, where anyone can buy one, rather than be vetted.

inky1991 · 30/03/2023 23:20

*Ah, here we are. All dogs should be banned unless working etc.

Some of the most aggressive dogs I have met have been small breeds... because their owners wont train it out of them. They think small = harmless*

🙄🙄🙄

inky1991 · 30/03/2023 23:22

Small dogs can still do serious damage... and I am sick of small dogs yapping in my own (large breed) dog's face.
It is not about whether you can boot a dog away... control your dog to begin with, and no one would be wanting to yeet it away from them.

You really aren't very bright are you?

Why the personal insult? No need for it at all.

Dog nutters are brainwashed fools. Who on earth in their right mind wants a filthy shit-eating bollocks-licking fleabag in their home, all that expense, the stench, for what? Idiot adulation. Dogs are for people who need something to worship them. Sad.

Poor kid. She deserves better. No dog is worth what those dogs did to her. Let's be a civilised society and put humans first. And clean up our streets.

Yes! 👏👏👏

MsJD · 30/03/2023 23:40

Feed the chavvy dog owners to the lions in the zoo. Brilliant.

Crazyshihtzulady · 31/03/2023 00:25

All dogs ? Hahaha

I agree with Moonbeams. Veganism is the understanding that animals are not here for us to use. You can’t go from understanding that to deciding you can use them after all. If you now use animals, you never understood what it truly meant to be vegan.
