£3k for 1 Week in the LAKES!

£3k
1 week
August Holiday

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can help.

Booking our second holiday for the 6 week break.

We're having our big holiday in May to Ikos, and so for this holiday I was thinking of a week in the Lakes to our usual spot;

Lodge
Hot tub
Village location

But its £2k for a week in August and we will need a grand for spends and £3k for a week in the lakes seems ridiculous.

Any ideas on what we can do with a £3k budget?

I'm tempted by another all inclusive abroad, but obviously a lot less luxurious than Ikos (as at least it would mean guaranteed sun and I'm not having to cook or unload a dishwasher for a week!)

Lodges/caravans/mobile home type holidays that are on sites, certainly with fancy stuff like hot tubs are not good value

Just book a self catering cottage or annex if money is tight.

I have never (because we cant afford to) booked a site setting or caravan setting for holidays, they are just too expensive, I dont know how people afford the like

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 26/03/2023 14:40

How many people is that 3k covering?

A private lodge with a hot tub during the August holidays is always going to be expensive. I live in the Lakes and it's insanely busy at that time of the year.

rookiemere · 26/03/2023 14:44

Lakes are expensive in school holidays. Maybe take a look at Shropshire instead- lovely countryside, not crowded in school holidays and rental prices less impacted by them.

Blueeyes13 · 26/03/2023 14:44

Not shocked at €2000 for a week in the Lakes. Shocked that you need €1000 to spend. We go every year and spend nowhere near that amount. How many of there are you. There are 4 of us. Sorry about € sign, keyboard is set up for Italian and no longer has a pound sign!

maddening · 26/03/2023 14:45

We have 10 nights in Cornwall with our own private outdoor heated swimming pool and bbq hut for £1k

Sorry, that would be helpful

How many of you are there? What is the 1k for? As for the rest, if the Lakes are too expensive for you there are other locations or options.

Untitledsquatboulder · 26/03/2023 14:47

Xpost. And the spends?

rookiemere · 26/03/2023 14:48

Also you've left it rather late to snaffle any bargain Lakes accommodation.

CheshGirl · 26/03/2023 14:49

£200 food shop
Circa £100 left a day
To cover pub lunch & tea and an activity
Could easily be more than £1k spends thinking about it!

We went to the Lakes during covid and it cost us an arm and a leg. I'd find a cheaper all inclusive and go abroad if I were you. There are loads of decent 4 star hotels.

I love Ikos, which one are you going to?

Pippylongstock · 26/03/2023 14:50

I wouldn’t go to the lakes in August it will be insanely busy. What about Northumberland/Scotland. If you pick the last week of August the Scottish kids are back to school. Around St Andrew’s is beautiful

PuttingDownRoots · 26/03/2023 14:51

So you want luxury accommodation in high season... and shocked it costs a lot? It costs that because people will pay that.

There are plenty of cheaper ways to have a holiday. Less popular locations, less facilities, camping or caravan...

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 26/03/2023 14:52

I mean, forget the hot tub for a start, that will probably save you several hundred pounds.

I don't know what sort of place you're looking for but I have never spent more than 1k for a week for a 2 bed place, even in August.

And I don't book horrible places, just your normal holiday cottage. Not super luxury/high end though, maybe that's where you're going wrong - if that's what you want then no wonder it costs that sort of money

Going back to Olivia, we went last year and loved it!

I would of tried another but we're only doing a week this time so didn't want to waste any time "settling"

Not wanting a cheaper hol, but if parting with £3k - wondering if there's somewhere better than the lakes!

Wow!!! Where on earth is that?! Cheapest i found in Cornwall with a pool is nearly £2K for a week!!!

Got yourself a right bargain there, you lucky thing!!

Floofydawg · 26/03/2023 14:58

Nice. Haven't been to that one but going back to Andalusia for the second time this year.

ChristmasLightsAndSparkles · 26/03/2023 14:58

I'd love a link to wherever @maddening is staying for next year! pleeeaaasse Grin

Chessetchelsea · 26/03/2023 14:59

It’s just going to rain. You could get a last minute trip to Spain for that in a halfway decent hotel.

darjeelingrose · 26/03/2023 15:00

Not go to the Lakes. It's expensive, like Cornwall. So either pick a cheaper holiday or go for less stuff in the rental. Try somewhere more remote in Scotland, there are lots of places that are more beautiful than the Lakes there anyway.

If you're spending £200 on a food shop, why do you need to spend almost £100 a day on pub lunches and meals out?

You can do the Lakes for much cheaper, you just need to compromise somewhere:

Cheaper/smaller accommodation without a hot tub
Picnics instead of pub lunches
Stay slightly outside the National Park (lower prices) and then drive to where you want to go.
Spend a bit more on the food shop and do some quick/easy dinners that don't involve cooking, plus a meal out and a takeaway or something.

Before moving here, we stayed in the Lakes regularly and never ate pub lunches or had daily meals out, or rented cottages with hot tubs. Yes, it's nice to do those things but it won't be cheap!

rookiemere · 26/03/2023 15:02

We stayed at this set of cottages a couple of years ago. www.cottages.com/cottages/halls-bank-cottages-stackgarth-29673?.

It's not luxury accommodation but the hot tub was wonderful and we got timed access each day to our own swimming pool ( this may have been a covid thing).

It's a different part of the Lakes from our normal one and we were able to visit Cockermouth, Buttermere and Keswick amongst other places.

Thanks 😊 we originally booked via a booking site but now the owners let us book direct after that for a lot less. It is near liskeard in the middle of nowhere but easy to get to the likes of Looe, Polperro, fowey etc for days out.
