Led by donkeys - enough is enough

Bloody hell, I’ve just watched the new “led by donkeys” video. People like Matt Hancock wanting to work for a fake consultancy firm for obscene amounts of cash.

I cannot tell You how angry MPs make me right now.

I have a relative that is an NHS dr on £14 an hour. She pays for her own travel and parking. All her study… she pays for. She is so busy she sometimes doesn’t eat.

then these idiots earn loads, and then claim back loads of expenses. Disgusting in my opinion. They then get second jobs that pay them £10k a day. Without even checking if company is real first.

In my opinion an mp should only take a second job if it’s in the nhs, army etc or a volunteer job for a registered charity. That’s it. No other reason.

I can’t even process this. I’ve had enough. What on earth can we do to change this? And yes I’ll not be voting Tory at the next election. They are a bunch of posh rich boys that want to just look after themselves. Politics should be more diverse. what on earth can we do?

If you have elections in early May, please vote. Remember your ID incidentally.

Send a message about how you feel about the current government.

(I don't like the phrase led by donkeys, as insulting to donkeys, but get the point overall).

Its a scandal isn't it.
And yet the government won't give doctors or any other public servants a proper pay rise.

Please tell me where you think they can get the money from?

We are £2,436.7 billion in debt due to the Covid Pandemic.

Do you think money goes on trees?

Governments get money from taxes and borrowing, so that is where the money could come from as it does for all other government expediture.

Covid cost the country around 400 to 500 billion max.

Good to see you admit the Tories have totally mis managed the economy by borrowing so much.

Maybe if they concentrated on policy rather than the greed that we can all see, the UK wouldn't owe so much?

How much of that 400-500billion was given to the mates of ministers who desperately needed to get richer?
What normally would be called fraud?

How much of the remainder was paid to people who would spend it in the UK economy?
How much was spent on people who could afford to have meals out, spreading covid in Rishi's great idea Eat out to help spread covid out?

Just for those saying that no NHS doctors get paid £14 an hour, a quick google will show that the starting wage can be as low as£29384. Divide by 52 weeks and 39 hours gives a wage of £14.48 an hour.

In comparison. Apprentices in my company who were paid for completing their apprenticeship get £32000 a year, standby alllowance and overtime and it isn’t unusual for them to earn £40k.

You are correct and even I as NHS worker found this hard to believe at the start of this thread.

However they can and do earn a lot more than the basic with the night and weekend rates.
I know another poster said that shouldn't be taken into consideration but actually it should as an awful lot of NHS workers (not office staff) do often work shifts at the weekend or after 8pm & therefore their wages end up being not as bad as everyone thinks.
I do think £14 an hour is a bit crap but it's wrong to ignore the enhancements just because it doesn't fit the narrative.

I used to vote for Tories many years ago while working in the City. Then , for Labor ( last two elections), as a single parent living on a modest income. I'm voting for Reform this election, I don't believe anymore in Tories/ Labour. They are like twins to me. Different sides of the same coin.

Roussette · 28/03/2023 07:55

I've just watched Gavin Williamson's sting on this. He was the only one who behaved like he should. He wouldn't talk fees, he wouldn't agree to setting up meetings, he questioned the South Korean country closely, he asked for more details, and he talked of his constituency commitments. Then cut them off.

Pleasantly surprised.

@Thisisvenus I'm sure I read this morning that Kier Starmer will stop MPs having a second job if Labour are voted in.

What I can't get my head around is how the have time for a second job??!!

I'm clearly doing something wrong...

If you don't put the hours in at your main job there's loads of time available for a second job .Many MPs don't bother to fight for their constituents or put the hours in.

Exactly. Some have four other jobs.

They have lost time, leisure and with family, will be doubly tired as a result of working nights and weekends.

Having done callout (non nhs) for many years, it wrecks you & the evidence is people who work night shifts are more likely to suffer from heart conditions.

The pay for night work should reflect this and hours need to be reduced as much as possible.

Bojo hasn't been near his constituency since being boot out of No.10 has he? He probably feels that being a back-bencher is beneath him
He's been swanning around the world earning millions making speeches.

He did a lot better than the other 3 but that bar is set extremely low.

15 MPs did far better than him by not accepting the invitation.

I find it hard to believe none of them did any research on the 'company'. Maybe (some of) the 15 did, but to talk fees etc without checking out the company - I'd say unbelievable, but nothing is with this lot.

NHS doctor on £14 an hour?
This is just not true.

It absolutely is true. That’s what the strikes are about - they want a rise from £14 to £19/hr

So who do you vote for, if your local MP is decent, trustworthy and reliable. Has done more for your local area in her time of holding the post than the previous MP of a rival party did in his 15 years (I think it was 15). ... But you don't like the party she's in?

How do you deal with national and local conflict when voting? I care that my area has been/is going through a massive regeneration thanks to her and her her efforts, I care that she works for us and does her damnedest to reliable and responsible...

Mine is Matt Hancock!

bobbyboy · 28/03/2023 10:45

my son is a Dr in the NHS, he is an F2. His F1 salary was £14.82 ph and now he is on £15.85 (approx) he gets a third extra for any night shifts he does or weekend work. Pays for his own travel and parking and pays a monthly subscription for tea/coffee in the Drs mess that he rarely gets to visit. Just paid best part of £600 for his surgical exams and another £60 for the revision notes. He pays for his own scrubs as he finds the NHS ones uncomfortable to wear all day. He pays for his own courses and conferences, he does get some money back for these but not all. He studied 6 years of which the last two years were paid for by the NHS so 4 year of student debt. Sometimes he does not get a break for lunch or dinner, snacks when can. Days off are spent a sleep recovering from a night shift or a long day, yes he could have earnt much more doing something else but this is his passion. MPs are a joke let them do this work for this money and listen to them complain. He does talk of going abroad where he'll earn much more for the same amount of work

I read somewhere (and I can't be arsed to look because I hate googling him) that he has made £6.1M since leaving PM duties

No idea how true that is

West Yorkshire mayor gets £89,000 for being an mp. Also gets £105,000 for being mayor. Every household in west yorkshire paying £168 per year on council tax for the mayor. I'm sure that equates to more than 105000?

That’s not true. Tracy Brabin stood down from parliament when she won the mayoral election. She’s not an MP.

Yes but the NHS isn't just a day service and anyone going into the NHS in certain roles knows this.
Of course conditions, hours and pay could be better but my point is the whole story needs to be told & not just a snippet to suit a narrative.

@Tiocfaigharla It’s not really relevant who I voted for last time. Since we last voted a lot of terrible behaviour has happened

What and you didn't know this is exactly how it was gonna be? The only reason I voted remain was because I knew if the tories got their hands on the UK with no over sight they were gonna rob us blind and screw us over and ...... ta da here we are!!! Everyone knew Boris was a liar through and through, but so many let them spread their hate and lies or worse actually believed them. They lied all the way through the run up to the brexi t vote in 2016 ANZ you are surprised they are still worthless lying toe rags in 2019? Never have and never will vote Tory or Red Tory (Labour) the UK deserves better than the shabby choices they have.
