to eat cereal?

Having a very important debate with the DCs, they think it is normal to use a teaspoon to eat cereal, I think most people use a dessert spoon. Dd1 says I'm just old and all the young people use the trendy teaspoon.

YABU - You must have a HUGE mouth, of course the dainty teaspoon is the way to go

YANBU - How can you fit ample cereal and milk on a teaspoon, only a dessert spoon will support a satisfying mouthful

My name is Molly, I have a problem... I use a teaspoon for all spoonable food!

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 10/03/2023 18:47

ShinyMe I think I have a matching spoon. A teaspoon is too small, a desert spoon is too big so an in between one is perfect.

DS, who is a fully functioning adult with a good career etc has to use the little spoon with the rabbit on the handle when he's here 😂 I once gave him a grown up spoon as his new partner was here but apparently that was wrong.

NewShoes · 10/03/2023 18:48

Teaspoons are so tiny- would take ages to eat cereal with one!

Crispyturtle · 10/03/2023 18:50

This thread is like when we discovered half the population sits down to wipe their bums and half stands up, and the two sides had no idea the other side even existed 😆

Riapia · 10/03/2023 18:51

Has to be a teaspoon.
How can you irritate anyone by using a dessert spoon.

PuttingDownRoots · 10/03/2023 18:55

Big bowl... dessert spoon
Small bowl... tea spoon

(I'm surprised anyone has the patience to eat soup with a teaspoon though!)

magicthree · 10/03/2023 18:56

I use a teaspoon for cereal and also for dessert when I am at home, and so did my late DM.

This is my special spoon. Also compared to my teaspoons (oddly, all my teaspoons say British Airways on the back, don't know how that happened) and my big spoons.

I just drink it from the bowl, saves on washing-up 😉

A dessert spoon, doesn't everyone?

Yes.

HouseofHolbein · 10/03/2023 18:59

I use a desert spoon. Grotty teen uses a teaspoon. Which is why I have no teaspoons because they are all festering in her bedroom 🤢

MajesticWhine · 10/03/2023 19:02

Dessert spoon- anyone who says otherwise is an utter disgrace.

SpaceJamtart · 10/03/2023 19:03

Teaspoon for cereal always

APurpleSquirrel · 10/03/2023 19:05

ThreeblackCats · 10/03/2023 18:34

I only ever use a teaspoon for my mouth, whether that’s for desserts, soup or cereal.

Me too! Unless I'm forced to by insufficient cutlery choices in restaurants etc

Mortimercat · 10/03/2023 19:05

I have never seen or heard of anyone using a teaspoon to eat cereal. I only use teaspoons for yoghurt, boiled eggs and stirring drinks.

Jemimapinotduck · 10/03/2023 19:05

I have never ever heard of a teaspoon being used for cereal!! 🤯🤯🤯 Just asked my sprogs and they too seemed shocked by it, table spoons (as we call them) all the way here!

WhichSpoon · 10/03/2023 19:06

I must admit I started this thread thinking it would be more unanimous in my favour than these comments are suggesting, feeling a little disgruntled. Thankfully the voting is still going my way at present, you teaspoon lot are obviously the vocal minority 😅

I have a spoon I use for cereal and ice cream only, called my Special Spoon. Seriously. As a child, I got attached to it, and I took it with me when I left home. I've used it for 40+ years. It's about half way between a teaspoon and a desert spoon, but it's sort of elongated and pointy. Is that a bit weird of me? I don't care if it is, it's my special spoon.

It's a fruit spoon.
When I got marriead 47 years ago I asked for a specific cutlery set. The only bits I got were serving spoons and a 'fruit set', including 6 of these spoons and one server. I split from ex in 1985, I still have and use all 6 of these spoons and I use them every day. Cereal, soup or desert, these half way spoons are the absolute best.
I'm with you all the way on this. Tea spoons a bit small, desert spoons too big - it's a bit like Goldilocks 3 bears ---- these spoons are 'JUST RIGHT'

BitOutOfPractice · 10/03/2023 19:09

People eat cereal with a teaspoon? Why? Weirdos!

dessert spoon all the way op.

squidgybits · 10/03/2023 19:10

not a teaspoon unless you are a toddler

catfunk · 10/03/2023 19:10

For cereal I would use my special small
Soup spoon.
For porridge or yoghurt and fruit I like a tea spoon.

scrivette · 10/03/2023 19:11

I use a soup spoon as my soup spoons don't get used enough.

I don't understand using a teaspoon to eat cereal, that would take forever and the cereal would be all soggy.

However a chocolate pudding/mousse I would use a teaspoon to make it last longer.

I am with you OP!

Maybe so TECHNICALLY, but it's my Special Spoon and I will hear nothing to contradict that.

ShinyMe · 10/03/2023 19:11

The Special Spoon is good for melons, I'll give it that.
