to eat cereal?

Having a very important debate with the DCs, they think it is normal to use a teaspoon to eat cereal, I think most people use a dessert spoon. Dd1 says I'm just old and all the young people use the trendy teaspoon.

YABU - You must have a HUGE mouth, of course the dainty teaspoon is the way to go

YANBU - How can you fit ample cereal and milk on a teaspoon, only a dessert spoon will support a satisfying mouthful

A big spoon. Not sure what it is. Not rounded like a soup spoon so probably a dessert spoon. Does eating with a teaspoon not involve more effort? A big spoon is efficient because you don't have to dip it back in as many times😅😅 I haven't time to be farting about with tiny cutlery!

Then try a coffee or egg spoon, they're even smaller so you'll feel fuller!

What about a salt spoon? Or just kicking things?

Soup spoon! Randomly

HurdyGurdy19 · 10/03/2023 21:44

I have a freebie spoon I got from Kelloggs years ago (has "Kelloggs" engraved on it) and it is desert spoon size.

I don't have time to eat cereal with a teaspoon! Breakfast would run into lunch 😀

😂I was thinking, well I guess you would lose weight if you just kicked your food, but you wouldn't feel very full.

I have never in my life seen anyone eating cereal with a teaspoon apart from toddlers!

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 10/03/2023 21:49

Dessert spoon for cereal. I cant stand soggy cereal, so the bigger the spoon the sooner I can eat it.
Teaspoon for yoghurt and cheese cake because it means it takes longer to eat.
Soup spoon for soup.

Annasass · 10/03/2023 21:50

A teaspoon, no dilly dallying you just have to eat faster.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/03/2023 22:13

A teaspoon. Less risk of triggering a gag reaction on cereal (which I try to avoid, and use as little milk as possible to avoid sogginess) or porridge.

Teaspoons are also good to make deserts last longer. I've got DH converted now 😁

Borborygmus · 10/03/2023 22:31

A dessert spoon of course. I think we have some teaspoons somewhere, but have never found much use for them, not even for tea!

GellerYeller · 10/03/2023 22:39

Teaspoon. Always. At Christmas when we get the cake forks out, Dessert is served with teaspoons too. Otherwise you’d have one odd giant utensil and a tiny fork ruining the symmetry of the place settings. I can see, written down, it’s daft, but hey ho. We have grapefruit spoons and long handled sundae spoons and they’re all teaspoon sized too.

CasperGutman · 10/03/2023 22:45

Dessert spoon. A teaspoon is too small to give a nice mixed mouthful of granola, nuts, fruit, milk etc.

I'm not proud of it, but in your position, I'd subtly imply to your teen that they're using a children's spoon

ThinWomansBrain · 10/03/2023 22:51

I only ever use a teaspoon for my mouth, whether that’s for desserts, soup or cereal.
Soup with a teaspoon!???

I can eat cereal with a desert spoon or a soup spoon.
Can't use a soupspoon for anything but cereal or savoury food - desert spoons for sweet things only.

PriamFarrl · 10/03/2023 22:54

Who could be arsed to eat a bowl of cornflakes with a sodding teaspoon?

Look at every single cereal advert or box art, it’s a regular spoon.

Teaspoon, honestly.

WandaWonder · 10/03/2023 23:00

Dessert spoon for everything that is not eating straight pit of a yoghurt, chocolate mousse size individual pot or boiled egg

I have never seen anyone eat out of a normal bowl with a teaspoon

I used to eat a yoghurt by dipping a teaspoon upside down, tapping it once on the side, then licking it.

Tootsweets84 · 10/03/2023 23:04

Teaspoons are for stirring tea or small pots of yoghurt. Literally no other practical use. Eating cereal with a teaspoon is madness and must take hours

xprincessxjanetx · 10/03/2023 23:12

Tablespoon for cereal

Teaspoon for puddings

mrsmacmc · 10/03/2023 23:13

Dessert spoon 🥄 for cereal
Tsp for yoghurt
Soup spoon for soup

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 10/03/2023 23:14

dessert spoon. I only use tea spoons for hot drinks, yoghurts or serving small jar condiments

cocksstrideintheevening · 10/03/2023 23:14

Teas spoon for cereal and any kind of dessert

Hours? No more than eating from a pasta bowl with a dessert spoon would take hours, it's in proportion.

ScrumpyTree · 10/03/2023 23:17

So I have some favourite spoons for cereal and yogurts and ice cream etc.

They're Ikea kids spoons.

They're between the size of a tea spoon and a dessert spoon and they're the perfect size for any sort of spoon item.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 10/03/2023 23:18

A smallish dessert spoon, because I have a tendency to cut the corners of my mouth on normal sized ones. I have a stupidly ill-proportioned face.Grin

The 20 year old will not tolerate any full size cutlery, at all. I am unsure if this is a youth thing, or an asd thing. She uses teaspoons, and has several sets of toddler sized stainless steel cutlery for day to day eating. She usually has some of the ikea plastic stuff rattling about too.

The 15 year old will use whatever food tool
is clean and will facilitate the moving of food from receptacle to cakehole. He is a quite ridiculously stereotypical male teen, and speed/quantity are the key points where food is concerned. For cereal he would usually choose a dessert spoon, or a soup spoon if one is available. He hasn’t yet resorted to using a serving spoon, but he is but a youngling.

The 11 year old is an in-between sort of chap. He likes teaspoons, but the ones that are a bit bigger. He likes normal sized forks, and finds knives entirely too complex for the world.
