What the bloody hell just happened?

I'm trying not to freak out.

In bed reading mumsnet as you do and all of a sudden I hear this almighty bang on my bedroom door which is ajar. It's one of those crap ones with a frame and perspex in.

Thinking something must have fallen, I got up to investigate. I turn the torch on on my phone as the bedside table lamp barely gives off any light. When I reached the door my phone went weird, the torch went off and a qr code came up on my screen as if trying to scan. I tried getting it off and it closed to reveal the screensaver I have of my daughter. All the icons had vanished and the phone was frozen except for the screenshot which was blurred and looked almost ghostly.

I put the light on and check around. Nothing apart from a coat hanger on the floor which could have already been there as it was behind the door.

Couldn't do anything with my phone until all of a sudden it restarted and now appears to be working fine!

Aliens. Definitely aliens., You just had a close encounter.

They will be back. Its anal probing time next time so be careful to wear your best underwear.

If it's anal probing time I'd say the last thing you want to wear is your best pants!🤔

My son says he can hear really loud bangs when he is home alone. Not trying to scare you but he is worried he has schizophrenia. But dont worry unless it happens more often. He knows it cant be real.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Personally, I don't. If ghosts were a possible phenomenon, given the number of people (and indeed other species) who have died over the millennia, I think it's fair to say they would be much more evident and frequent than they allegedly are.

Was about to say the same thing. Ghosts would be all over the place! Most houses/ families would have hauntings regularly anyway.

Catfoster · 04/03/2023 22:59

The two incidents - hearing a crash and phone going weird - may be 2 separate issues. If your torch app is a download, it may have installed a virus. Second-party apps are notorious for that. If the torch came as a resident app, then likely just coincidence.

Please make sure you have fully working CO alarms. This is essential. One of the symptoms of CO poisoning can be hearing/seeing things that don't feel real, this goes for anyone who has unexplainable things like this happening (and anyone who has any gas appliances!).

interesting! Thank you for this information.

ElizaMulvil · 04/03/2023 23:04

When I was 5 I lived in a large mid 19th Century house split into 6 flats. People used to hear knocking in the night - went on for weeks. Terrified people!

It was a little girl of 3-4 standing up in her cot and rocking it so it jumped from side to side. Then one night they heard her singing nursery rhymes too! Her Mum said, yes I know, it's her - that's why we have our bedroom at the front and hers is at the back. The relief was huge.

I'll be listening to this on Uncanny in a few weeks then!

This got me 🤣

Slenderman hun. Usually preys on teens and manipulates their devices. Xoxo

LikeTearsInRain · 04/03/2023 23:17

Are you sure it was a QR code? Could it possibly have been more like one of these?

I didn’t believe in anything other worldly until recently. The things that have been happening since my mother died have changed completely the way I feel about the unexplained.

Peckhaminn · 04/03/2023 23:33

Oh bloody hell after reading this post we've just had a HUGE bang on one of our walls in our bedroom. Hoping it was the neighbours. Weird, they've never banged before...

Jo586 · 05/03/2023 00:28

More bewildered about what a perspex door in a frame is doing on a bedroom, honestly have no idea what this could be.

Chezer11 · 05/03/2023 00:50

We have similar things happening in my flat and at my parents house. My mom passed 4 years ago, my dad passed a week ago. The old man down stairs from me passed over a year ago. I always say it's a spirit passing through. They don't hurt you, they just want to say hi. My dad even would say himself that he'd hear strange things and say it was my mom. We've had lights flickering, books fly off shelves, phones playing up, power supply being low all of a sudden.

YankeeDad · 05/03/2023 01:03

I cannot explain the sounds, but the phone behaviour you describe matches precisely what I would expect if you accidentally hit the button to take a photo when you turned the torch on:
-camera on starts looking for QR codes. If it finds something that looks like it might be QR code, then it behaves for a few seconds as if it has seen one, even if it has not.
-"ghostly" or blurry picture gets taken if you take a photo by accident, while moving, in low light. I have taken many such a photo of my own feet while trying to do something with the phone.

The Daily Mail is reporting there was a sonic boom caused by RAF aeroplanes scrambling to deal with an air incident.

Tiggy321 · 05/03/2023 02:19

Could be an earthquake?! I only say this because I was woken up years ago by a huge crash and weird shake (no one else inthe house heard it!) Next morning, someone at the school gate mentioned it and said it was a quake and had checked a website which records these things! Since happened a couple more times. Doesn't explain your weird phone thing tho....

mustgetoffmn · 05/03/2023 04:55

BertaHoon · 03/03/2023 03:13

Anybody remember the sonic boom about 7 years ago?

I thought my ceiling had fallen down! I very delicately tiptoed around the house... Then spent a few hours of wtf... Until saw it on the news. Most of England heard it.

How come you don't hear it every time they scramble fighter jets?

Mysteries eh?

There was a sonic boom last night. Apparently heard around Leicester and further afield

Redragtoabull · 05/03/2023 05:21

Following my earlier post, in my previous rental home, my girl was around 7 yo and out with her Dad, we had split, when a red ball was thrown across the dining/ front room area, I was the only one home. When I was young, my Mum was in the bath, I was trying on her shoes in her room and as I was buckling up the ankle of her high heels, I felt the pressure of 2 fingers on my right shoulder, I looked up and nothing was there, that happened twice! When I was a teen I spent time looking after other siblings and whilst I was there, fell asleep on the sofa, woke up to the tiffany light swinging, freaked out, went to check on sibs, walked past kitchen and kettle was boiling and staff dog cowering in the corner! Also stayed at an exes house a few years later and had a picture swaying above me, went to say to then BF who was taking a shower and saw an apparition of a young girl in the hallway. Always had weird shit going on

I've been having weird experiences since being in my home a year. From banging to feeling like someone is watching me. My dog also wanders around crying at nothing.

The other night after putting my dd to bed I went outside for a fag. I heard her voice as clear as day behind the door. I dropped the fag and called to her saying its OK mammys coming. She was flat out in bed when I went upstairs. I'm the only one in my street with a small child and no.one was walking down the street. It really freaked me out so I checked my ring doorbell and the voice played on there. I can't make out what it says but it really spooked me as it sounds so close.

Holy, what? You have just won this thread for incredibly creepy.

Donenothingwrong · 05/03/2023 07:42

Yep!! Our old farmhouse was haunted. We suffered it for 2 years & then moved. We used to see things as well as hear the noises and the smells. Never used to believe in ghosts & hauntings before we lived there but it’s real & probably more common than you realise. Some people are less sensitive to detecting it than others so might not even notice or sense it

Donenothingwrong · 05/03/2023 07:51

🤣🤣🤣

flapjackfairy · 05/03/2023 07:55

@BertaHoon
Tou dont hear it all the time because it only happens when they break the sound barrier. They are only allowed to do that in emergency situations which occurred the other night so they were scrambled at full speed hence the boom.
So no mystery there sorry.
