What the bloody hell just happened?

I'm trying not to freak out.

In bed reading mumsnet as you do and all of a sudden I hear this almighty bang on my bedroom door which is ajar. It's one of those crap ones with a frame and perspex in.

Thinking something must have fallen, I got up to investigate. I turn the torch on on my phone as the bedside table lamp barely gives off any light. When I reached the door my phone went weird, the torch went off and a qr code came up on my screen as if trying to scan. I tried getting it off and it closed to reveal the screensaver I have of my daughter. All the icons had vanished and the phone was frozen except for the screenshot which was blurred and looked almost ghostly.

I put the light on and check around. Nothing apart from a coat hanger on the floor which could have already been there as it was behind the door.

Couldn't do anything with my phone until all of a sudden it restarted and now appears to be working fine!

My dog does this too. Sits there staring as if she's looking at something. Her head sometimes moves slowly as if she's following something going past.

I think they do this deliberately as they know it scares the pants off their human.

How come there is no credible photographic/video evidence of ghosts?

Because they are a hallucination. Doesn't make them any less fascinating though.

Jooliusreezer · 03/03/2023 10:23

I can never tell if people are taking the piss. Blows my mind what people believe in.

Maybe she was talking in her sleep.

There's no way I would have heard her outside the front door when she was in the back bedroom.

AdoraBell · 03/03/2023 10:29

TinySaltLick is spot on, without a doubt.

Standard warning applies though:

If you hire an exorcist and don't keep up with the payments your home may be repossessed.

😂😂😂

SallyWD · 03/03/2023 10:38

Could it be a sonic boom? A few years ago I was in bed reading and there was a massive bang. Literally sounded like a bomb exploding! I saw the door frame shake. I later found out it was a sonic boom (something to do with a military plane flying faster than the speed of sound or something!!). I'd never even heard of this before.

Trixiefirecracker · 03/03/2023 10:38

Sometimes, when I’m exhausted, I just sit and stare randomly at a corner of my room. I’m not seeing apparitions or noticing portals opening to other worlds, I’m just staring and day dreaming. Pretty sure dogs do just stare at stuff, without it meaning very much.

I wonder if it was an auditory illusion, the noises were actually coming from below you but because of some quirk of the building they sounded like they were above you.

Was def from above, you could trace the footsteps across the celling.

The first reply is 100% 😂. You fell through a time warp into a parallel universe. I'm convinced this happened to me as well.

Back in my real universe I'm rich , attractive and highly intelligent you know.

Could very well be you have dropped into a a parallel universe. Quick, check the titles of Lionel Richie songs are all as you remember them - it's the only way to be sure.

Back in a bit, have to go to the library for some noodles.

Posyapocalypse · 03/03/2023 10:56

Dogs, cats and young babies often seem to have that staring at nothing thing going on. I don’t think it’s anything sinister but it is unnerving to see a baby or pet staring at the same blank area of wall, ceiling etc for ages.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/03/2023 10:57

Oh my god, I just got this like the 4th time someone reposted it Blush

RemoteControlDoobry · 03/03/2023 11:32

I love Jonna Jinton videos. She lives in Sweden and in very cold weather the trees often make very loud cracking noises. So I guess it’s possible it could occasionally happen here in either trees or wood inside the house. She also records the ice on the lake near her house ‘singing’.

IncompleteSenten · 03/03/2023 11:32

My guess is exploding head syndrome and you either restarted your phone while faffing or it just had a glitch. Mine does it from time to time. Shit freezes up and I need to wait a minute or two for it to pull itself together.

tattygrl · 03/03/2023 12:01

Could be something ghosty, if you're inclined to believe in that stuff. I sort of am - I'm open-minded, without being entirely convinced. They do say that electronics go weird around spirits and ghostly activity, which could explain your phone. You'll be fine, just one of those weird things! I once heard a growl from the corner of my bedroom, sounded like a lion. It came from a corner of the room that my cat wouldn't stop staring at. Shat myself 😂

BRILLIANT!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/03/2023 14:48

@OopsAnotherOne that's how my DH rationalised something to me.

I said I'd love to be brave enough to trail run in the dark on my own.

He asked what I was scared of. I said people.

He commented that I'm happy to run round the streets in the dark late at night and I'm more likely to meet someone dodgy there.

Makes perfect sense.

All the posters that dismissed OP’s account as explainable, unfortunately sometimes things just aren’t.

Alleycat1 · 03/03/2023 18:46

@Iknowthis1 .
I love your coat hanger theory! I would repost it but don't know how.

my number one fear of trail running in the dark would be hidden dips and rolling my ankle but I've done it with other people just not alone see also night swimming

If ghosts are a thing, why hasn't everyone ever who died become a ghost? Is it a choice?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/03/2023 19:13

@seperatedmum night swimming - definitely a no from me 😂

What I love about ghosts is that their clothes become ghosts, too... you don't see naked ghosts (thankfully). And you don't see ghosts (naked or otherwise) in the supermarket or walking down the street.

Love the username, BTW @TeaserandtheFirecat

TeaserandtheFirecat · 03/03/2023 20:24

Thank you, @Sheitgeist 🤗loved a bit of Cat Stevens back in the day.

No, nekkid ghosts would be awful to have drifting round the house!
