What the bloody hell just happened?

I'm trying not to freak out.

In bed reading mumsnet as you do and all of a sudden I hear this almighty bang on my bedroom door which is ajar. It's one of those crap ones with a frame and perspex in.

Thinking something must have fallen, I got up to investigate. I turn the torch on on my phone as the bedside table lamp barely gives off any light. When I reached the door my phone went weird, the torch went off and a qr code came up on my screen as if trying to scan. I tried getting it off and it closed to reveal the screensaver I have of my daughter. All the icons had vanished and the phone was frozen except for the screenshot which was blurred and looked almost ghostly.

I put the light on and check around. Nothing apart from a coat hanger on the floor which could have already been there as it was behind the door.

Couldn't do anything with my phone until all of a sudden it restarted and now appears to be working fine!

As an avid watcher of ghost programs...burning sage and a feather or ask what it is to pipe down.
Could it be your mum trying to get your attention ?

Lachlan08 · 07/03/2023 06:16

The burning sage thing is what my ex requested I help her with to "cleanse" the house. I failed to mention that the only thing adjacent to the cottages is an old cemetery. As for the origin of the occurrences, your guess is as good as mine. Although a woman in one of these spiritual shops thought it was something attached to my ex (not me). Anyway since we separated (3 years ago) things in the house have been uneventful. I have still have two dogs, and neither of them seem concerned with any goings on.

Sheitgeist · 07/03/2023 07:21

My late father instilled this in us growing up,he was a consultant psychiatrist and had to treat folk who had gotten themselves into a terrible state after holding seances.

Yes, this happens all the time Hmm

We had a number of unexplained things in our last house (500 years old, no CH, flagstone floors) seen by my MIL, DH (neither of them believed in ghosts) DCs and me.
Things moving across a room, unexplained noises, footsteps on the stairs when no one else in the house, dogs wouldn’t go in one room, cats suddenly standing with their hair on end and screeching ( we had to stop letting them into that room).
Seeing a hooded figure from the knees up (we discovered that the upstairs floors had been raised many years before) - MIL would see this, she definitely didn’t believe in ghosts, then seen by very young DCs), things going missing and turning up in strange places (like the back of an unused cupboard too high to be used, couldn’t even reach the latch without getting a chair to stand on so certainly DCs (1 & 3 couldn’t have done it), DH said he’d never even looked into it and he’d lived in the house all his life!
Eventually we asked a priest to visit and after that everything stopped. These happenings had be going on over a very long time- MIL had lived there for 50 years!
I heard and saw many inexplicable things yet didn’t mind being in the house alone until things started ramping up, then it was definitely scary - the doors opening and slamming when they were firmly shut (not windy, heavy latched doors) and something repeatedly hitting the wall behind the bed - no trees etc outside, 2’ stone wall, no neighbours adjoining.

Gah! Shouldn’t have clicked on this. I was just contemplating getting out of bed and walking to the bathroom for a wee. Can’t put light on or will wake dog up. Too frightened to go out there in the dark now. Have to hold it till dawn …

Don't worry the dog will tell you if something's there. When I was renting, my dog used to stare into the corner of the ceiling in my bedroom which were quite high. She would fixate on it. I'd get the chill and freeze, unable to move. I certainly wasn't getting up for a pee (coward). I did unnerve me. When I told my landlady, she said yes, there are 2 entities here but don't worry they are friendly. WTF! She could have told me before I signed the contract. I was only there for a year. Your dog is an alarm, they definitely pick up on the energy.

Stewball01 · 11/03/2023 14:55

It doesn't sound as if it will do harm. There must be an explanation for this. Don't worry.

@seperatedmum night swimming - definitely a no from me 😂

don't knock it till you've tried it 😋

BibBib · 16/03/2023 15:24

Not sure if anyone else has said it but when the knocking from the wardrobe is heard is anyone else walking about? I once stayed in a cottage out in the middle of nowhere on the North York's moors, and the wardrobe randomly started making knocking noises. I just about shit myself. It turned out that when people were walking in the room next door, it was making the super long floorboards move which sort of rattled the wardrobe.

I have had the feeling of being touched. Sometimes it's a finger or a hand. Even in a friend's house while talking to her. A few times I have to rub the area afterwards.

I Also feel people walking past the end of the bed if my feet are sticking out in the morning. In fact if my foot is overhanging the bed it's almost 100% I will feel something brush my feet and walk up the side of the bed. That is possibly a sleep thing. The being touched is weirder

My DH has had these feelings, more so recently, especially after nearly dying in hospital a few months ago. But even before that he used to think that our dog who died nearly three years ago, brushes past him. He doesn't mind at all. But I think I sometimes have felt something in the house - if it's just our old dog, I don't mind either.
