What the bloody hell just happened?

I'm trying not to freak out.

In bed reading mumsnet as you do and all of a sudden I hear this almighty bang on my bedroom door which is ajar. It's one of those crap ones with a frame and perspex in.

Thinking something must have fallen, I got up to investigate. I turn the torch on on my phone as the bedside table lamp barely gives off any light. When I reached the door my phone went weird, the torch went off and a qr code came up on my screen as if trying to scan. I tried getting it off and it closed to reveal the screensaver I have of my daughter. All the icons had vanished and the phone was frozen except for the screenshot which was blurred and looked almost ghostly.

I put the light on and check around. Nothing apart from a coat hanger on the floor which could have already been there as it was behind the door.

Couldn't do anything with my phone until all of a sudden it restarted and now appears to be working fine!

How come there is no credible photographic/video evidence of ghosts?

Who was it that said if they put the time and money into researching the paranormal properly they would be able to prove it in under 10 years or something to that effect?

It was only around 85nT with a Kp of around 3.5 last night. That's not enough to put a wobble in a radio signal, never mind blip out a phone.

You were correct to wait until 8:50am to post this 🙂

OopsAnotherOne · 03/03/2023 09:47

It depends what you believe in. If you're suggesting ghosts/spirits, that's not my area as I personally don't really believe that ghosts exist as we (as a society) say they do, in the way that I don't think there are ghosts wandering the earth or spirits that we can communicate with as such, so I don't personally think it's ghost doing all of this. But I can't say for certainty, it's just my belief, and I respect the fact that others hold beliefs different to my own about the paranormal 😊

With this sort of thing, I'd apply what my Dad always tells me (which is the reason I'm able to walk the dog at night in the dark out on the farm and in the woods) which is:

What's more likely? Like, what's genuinely, statistically more likely? That the bang into the perspex and the knocking on the cupboard was genuinely the supernatural and actually proof that the paranormal are haunting your house and messing with you? Or it was one of the other things such as wind, bird/bat/owl flying into the window, branch from a tree etc.

I use this to rationalise those knocks in the night, creaks when you're home alone, rustles in the bushes when I'm walking at night - is it a tiger or a werewolf here to attack me or is it more likely to be a badger or a rat? It helps me calm that part of my brain down that likes to insist that everything like that is something hiding ready to pounce on me as I walk past haha!

scorpiogirly · 03/03/2023 09:51

You're braver than me. There is no way I'd be walking in the bloody woods at night!

I never used to be able to! My real fear is people, but I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and the woods are private so there's very little chance of me meeting anyone out there and in almost 20 years of living there I'm yet to meet someone on the farm who shouldn't be there. The other fear was my irrational fear of "what hides in the darkness", but I rationalise that as "well probably a badger, maybe a fox or a deer, but that's about it!". Obviously I have a torch 🤗

It's 2023. In the midst of the fourth industrial revolution, hurtling towards the technological singularity, Elon Musk has ensured all poltergeists have their own QR codes.

I believe my house is haunted, but I don't find it frightening.
I don't have a cat, but regularly see a black cat on my upstairs landing.
Every day at about 11am I hear the door between my kitchen and dining room open and close but I'm the only person in. It would have been the original back door as the kitchen was added on later.
My dog stares at the ceiling in the front room, cocks his head and looks like he's following the sound of someone walking across the upstairs.
It's a stone house with concrete floors so no creaky floorboards.
I hear my guitar "jangle ", like it's been moved (not played if that makes sense).
I regularly sense more than see someone walk past me in the garden and sometimes behind my bedroom door.
Funny story, I had family to stay and we'd been watching Woman in Black, my DP had already gone to bed.
I don't often watch scarey stuff as it makes me very jumpy.
We all went up to bed and everyone came running as I started screaming, I'd seen a white almost illuminous figure in my bedroom.
Turned out to be my naked DP had got out of bed with cramp 😅

Ohnohedident · 03/03/2023 10:03

I lived in a flat for about ten years and you could hear people walking about upstairs.
I mean you could really hear them, like footsteps, pauses, everything. It was very clearly someone walking around, sitting down, general living noises.

Except I was on the top floor and there was nothing above me.

Weirdly, I always felt safe and happy in that flat, like whatever it was was a loving presence.

inadarkdarkhouseinadarkdarkstreet · 03/03/2023 10:05

After reading your updates OP I'm not sure why you were so startled -it sounds like your 'houseguest' is actually mellowing! 😄

I wonder if it was an auditory illusion, the noises were actually coming from below you but because of some quirk of the building they sounded like they were above you.

thedancingbear · 03/03/2023 10:07

I think this was either a poltergeist or a Frankenstein. Probably a poltergeist, if it affected your phone.

Don't worry, they're usually harmless.

OP I think if you say you’ve had those experiences then that’s good enough for me - who knows eh? But why do you stay there? Do you have other adults in the house? Do you still enjoy living there?

The first reply is 100% 😂. You fell through a time warp into a parallel universe. I'm convinced this happened to me as well.

Back in my real universe I'm rich , attractive and highly intelligent you know.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2023 10:11

This could be a hypnagogic hallucination/odd dream situation. I used to get a really loud doorbell hallucination quite frequently when I was falling asleep. Also lots of weird dreams where I'm awake and going through motions as normal but weird shit then starts to happen.

It's just me, daughter and dog.

Weirdly when my mother was here I used to be absolutely terrified. If I had to go downstairs in the middle of the night I would sprint back upstairs, I ran that fast one night I smashed into the wall at the top of the stairs lol

But since she has gone which is coming up 10 years now I haven't been as scared. Even seeing the things I have actually seen move like the curtain being pulled upwards and the packer falling in front of me it hasn't really scared me weirdly.

I am not sure if there is something here. I am not claiming my house is definitely haunted and I'm not sure whether I believe or not but it's certainly been weird.

I've thought about moving, not because of the happenings but in general but I'm quite a sentimental person and I think the fact I grew up here and that it was my mother's house stops me.

My dog does this too. Sits there staring as if she's looking at something. Her head sometimes moves slowly as if she's following something going past.
