Roundabout with diagram , was I wrong?

I'm the red line, white van is blue line, he was behind me in my blind spot, yellow x is where I indicated to leave the roundabout. He blew me out of it.
This is the town I live in ( hopefully unrecognisable from the air 😀) But if I was wrong ( and I'm prepared to admit it if voting is unanimous ) Then I have been going around this roundabout incorrectly my whole adult life!

Why were you going straight over in the inside lane? That lane is for people turning right Confused

Lardolader · 28/02/2023 19:22

Oh... Sorry I think you're wrong! If I'm going straight over a roundabout usually be in the left lane? Right lane is for turning right... Altho totally depends on road markings of course

Kittykat9070 · 28/02/2023 19:22

@Ridelikethewindypops
had you wanted to exit at the next turning? If so you should have been in the right hand lane, ready to turn right off the roundabout

AnonymousArabella · 28/02/2023 19:23

Left lane for left or straight on, right hand lane for any exit past 12 o’clock.

Complicated on this roundabout because of being 2 lanes on entry going to 1 lane on exit. But, yes, you should have been aware of him and I’m not surprised he was frustrated with you cutting across him.

Locsup183 · 28/02/2023 19:23

Hmm. I think I’d be in the left lane for all exits apart from the very last one when I’d be in the right lane

AtrociousCircumstance · 28/02/2023 19:23

You were in the wrong lane!

spangleswereace · 28/02/2023 19:24

Yeah unless that left approach lane has an arrow indicating left turn only I'd say you should have been in that lane for going straight on?
So the van was in the correct lane!

jizzlord · 28/02/2023 19:24

You were in the right lane to turn right but went straight over? You were In the wrong.

Dolares · 28/02/2023 19:24

I'd say you were in the wrong unfortunately. Unless there are arrows on the lanes that say otherwise?

WomensLandArmy · 28/02/2023 19:24

If the road you were turning into had two lanes on each side I think you would be ok with what you did, but if there was only one lane in each direction you were wrong, the other driver would have been expecting you to turn right. Though I try and keep back from people on roundabouts because there are a lot of numpties that do not understand how they work.

LetThemEatTurnips · 28/02/2023 19:25

You were in the wrong.

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/02/2023 19:25

Sorry you were in the wrong lane.

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/02/2023 19:25

Here's the problem. Up until today, that roundabout only had one lane feeding onto it......
🫤
It didn't obviously. But I would have sworn in court it did....until I looked it up on Google earth.
Mea culpa. And also mea completely blind...

You were in the wrong. Left lane for left and straight across, right for anything beyond straight across.

Loics · 28/02/2023 19:26

You were wrong.

Xrays · 28/02/2023 19:27

You were wrong.

AdobeWanKenobi · 28/02/2023 19:27

I’d have been in the left lane too OP sorry.

However, I’d have been hyper aware of anyone trying to go straight on to the side of me too, because frankly some people lose common sense on roundabouts so I’m always aware that anything next to has potential to cut across me.

scrivette · 28/02/2023 19:27

Personally I think you were in the wrong lane... however my parents are convinced they were taught that they could be in the lane you were in.

picklemewalnuts · 28/02/2023 19:27

I was taught either lane for straight on.

Thing is, the van may not have been able to see your indicator if you were alongside.

You have to negotiate your way off.

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/02/2023 19:27

Unanimously agreed. I'm morto! I actually turned to dc and said, Silly man, there's only one lane!

We all mistakes, and I hate making driving mistakes but you’ll soon get over it.

You know now! 😁

Ah we all have brain farts. No accident no harm and you know for the next time your taking that route.
Don’t dwell on it.

Mapletreelane · 28/02/2023 19:29

Yep you were in the wrong op. Left lane for left and straight across. Right lane is for right. No wonder he was abut peeved. At least you know now.

GoodChat · 28/02/2023 19:30

Maybe you got confused with the roundabout coming from the other direction

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/02/2023 19:31

Oh dear. My mother too. I'm actually slowly turning into her.
