So Camilla is Queen now?

Headlines in the papers talking about what the Queen said yesterday at a reception.

I thought we had a King and a Queen Consort.

Phillip wasn't a King.

AIBU to think calling Camilla the Queen instead of the Queen Consort is going too far?

No he became King the moment she died. That’s how Monarchy works.

Cross post!

Brefugee · 24/02/2023 16:51

it also warms the cockles to know that, technically, she was also the Princess of Wales as soon as she and Charles married.

TangledWebOfDeception · 24/02/2023 16:52

@Brefugee I think some people’s heads might explode at that.

StaunchMomma · 24/02/2023 16:32

Fuck. THAT!!

She's no Queen in my eyes and I very much doubt I'm alone!

And neither Camilla nor anyone else cares what she is in your eyes.

Xol · 24/02/2023 16:58

RiceCooker · 24/02/2023 16:47

Surely the King & Queen took their roles the day after the death of Queen Elizabeth ?

No, they took their roles the moment she died. Remember, "The Queen is dead, long live the King"?

Cross post!

We know our stuff @Maireas! Must be all that tiara (and general royal vault) perusal... 👑 👑 👑

Maireas · 24/02/2023 17:15

It must be, @TangledWebOfDeception !
We've become quite the royal authorities!

Crucible · 24/02/2023 17:18

@ArcaneWireless absolutely not re your mum of course.

It's one of my all time favourite Mumsnet quotes (my Dad is from Tip, he loves Rachel, when I quoted that to him, he roared laughing).

Queen Camilla wouldn't be shocked at it either I reckon. She would probably have fruity language after enough Gordon's.

I'm Irish - it's a hilarious circus to watch the Royals. Love the threads here about royal jewels.

But if you care who the Queen is, then presumably you set some store by the notion of a monarch, and the whole point of a monarchy is that we don't get to choose, so your eyes get no say in the matter.

Your opinion is illogical.

Either monarchy is bad and so who cares who the Queen is.

Or monarchy is good and yay no choice.

Me too @Crucible . It must be a common view over here, I've noticed a very high proportion of Irish posters on royal threads over the years. Almost as many as on funeral threads. Grin

ArcaneWireless · 24/02/2023 17:28

Celt but from ower the watter crucible.

That sort of thing I can imagine being said in queues here.😁. It was a thing of beauty.

I live a pearl’s throw from Balmoral. Folk round here are fond of the RF and seem to be fond of the new Queen as far as I’ve heard. And if she is fruity mouthed or no, she’d be welcome round here.

She’d just not see any mayonnaise.

Maireas’s threads on jewels and threads are a joy.

I do love me some sparkles.

That's really interesting thank you, I've not done a whole lot of reading around this specific period of time in history but I think I am going to now off the back of this

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it

In terms of succession to the throne William of Orange came after his wife and her sister, but he refused to accept a subordinate role and Mary refused to reign without him being given the title of king.

Maireas · 24/02/2023 17:44

I'm glad folks like the royal style and beauty threads - we have some great discussions and we love a bit of glamour and bling. So much knowledge as well! A bit of humour and snark, but no cruelty - you're all welcome to join!! 😊👍

Maireas · 24/02/2023 17:46

How wonderful to live up there, close to Balmoral, @ArcaneWireless . That is some beautiful scenery. The colours in the summer are breathtaking. Oh, and my family experienced no racism, and the warmest welcome wherever we went.

lazycats · 24/02/2023 17:49

There’s no doubt that papers will call her ‘the queen’ if she mentions something that vaguely aligns with whatever their agenda of the day is.

As long as they follow the rules!!

You need a big stick* like @BIWI has on the LC bootcamp threads.

*Except it would be a big jewelled sceptre!

ArcaneWireless · 24/02/2023 18:01

I have been blessed to see many parts of our beautiful kingdom but there is a thing about the green up here. It must be all the rain and midgie droppings.

I’m so glad you received a lovely welcome Maireas. It is as it should be.

Crumpetdisappointment · 24/02/2023 07:18

same
My poor old middle-aged grey matter can't seem to update itself, I suspect he'll be 'Prince Charles, I mean the King' until I die 😂

I think we've probably just about stopped saying God Save the Qwing as I heard lots of last year, including the Vicar taking the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve!

cakeorwine · 24/02/2023 18:32

Well this thread took off!

It was a bit jarring to see the headline in the paper about "The Queen " and her views on Roald Dahl books.

True - we did have Queen Alexandra. My mum was in the QARANC. It does seem strange not to have had a King when we had Queen Elizabeth but to have a Queen when we have a King.

The Queen is dead. Long live the King. And Queen.

(but the sooner we get rid of the Monarchy, the better)

I love that people are interested enough to be upset by this, but not interested enough to have actually informed themselves.

TangledWebOfDeception · 24/02/2023 22:08

No it’s really not strange. Not sure why it seems so odd to you...it’s just how it works.

Exactly this.

TangledWebOfDeception · 24/02/2023 22:21

Why was it jarring? If you accepted and respected Elizabeth II’s role then you accept the system that made her Queen and Charles King. That system also makes Camilla Queen.

Crucible · 24/02/2023 22:36

Lovely to hear all this and hello to ower waters.
The history of precious stones is fascinating generally I think. One of my favourite facts I learned on those threads (I think the jewel or royal style threads) is that the children of a Morganatic Marriage are called Morganauts. How about that? So many clever and educated posters, I learn so much (huge history buff, always learning).

I like that the Royal Style threads keep very strictly to discussion of clothes and style not body shape, skin tone. This has nothing to do with this particular topic though. Sorry!

Whenharrymetsmelly · 24/02/2023 22:48

I'm not into the RF by any means but it seems weird without QE, despite the sordid history, she had class. Queen for Camilla or Kate just seems wrong, I'm sure they're both lovely but there's just no comparison. The whole thing seems so archaic although I guess it should stay for constitutional reasons which is the best option
