So Camilla is Queen now?

Headlines in the papers talking about what the Queen said yesterday at a reception.

I thought we had a King and a Queen Consort.

Phillip wasn't a King.

AIBU to think calling Camilla the Queen instead of the Queen Consort is going too far?

Has anyone blamed Harry and Meghan yet? They must have something to do with this step too far.

Only you.

There's always someone who drags them on to an unrelated thread

@BMW6
Go tell Wikipedia. I bet they're just waiting for you right now.

I'm happy to go by the Privy Council, rather than Wiki.

RF social media use both versions (Clarence House usually with "Consort", others vary). So either is acceptable right now, and I suspect that the (unprecedented) addition of the extra word will quietly drop after the coronation

It was always, quite rightly, planned to drop consort. Camilla is the Queen and those Diana worshipers need to get over it. She seems a well rounded, supportive, stable woman. We either want a society that allows divorce, or we don't.
Interesting read:

Why would anyone blame them for the rules of the Constitutional Monarchy? How strange.

Quite @Maireas my friend.

Folk just don’t want to gie them peace.

One of my favourite things on MN I read was that someone ‘was a cunt for the butter’.

Some scorn the butter for froth.

Maireas · 24/02/2023 16:24

Good points, @Ponoka7 .

Good grief!
I do not get it. Some people want to look for negativity when there is none to find! Crazy.

TangledWebOfDeception · 24/02/2023 16:28

OMG wiki as prime source of all knowledge. Don’t be so silly.

Yes Camilla is Queen Consort to King Charles.

Every Queen who is married to the King is a Queen Consort (as opposed to Queen Regnant). That is her position. The title she holds is still Queen.

She is Queen Camilla, and HM The Queen. And just to answer the OP: no, it’s not ‘going too far.’🙄

AnnieMore · 24/02/2023 16:29

Of course she’ll be known as Queen Camilla. Just as all those consorts before her, and just as Kate will (if we still have a monarchy by then). The consort bit will be dropped, and rightly so.

Mumskisail · 24/02/2023 16:30

Camilla is a wonderful Queen and fully deserving of the title.

StaunchMomma · 24/02/2023 16:32

Fuck. THAT!!

She's no Queen in my eyes and I very much doubt I'm alone!

ArcaneWireless · 24/02/2023 16:35

Meanwhile, back in the real world…

TangledWebOfDeception · 24/02/2023 16:37

I just think it’s funny that people think their opinion matters. She absolutely is Queen. What you think really doesn’t come into it even one tiny little bit.

Maireas · 24/02/2023 16:40

I don't understand "too far"?
Too far for what?
Diana is dead, let her rest. Had she lived, she would have been Queen, and no doubt there would have been world peace ✌️

Crucible · 24/02/2023 16:41

'shes a cunt for the butter' was overheard in a queue in Dublin, 5wo women discussing Rachel Allen...

She's a great cook but she's a cunt for the butter'.

Crucible · 24/02/2023 16:43

That was to @ArcaneWireless

Brefugee · 24/02/2023 16:45

I think it's absolutely hilarious. They should abolish the whole thing, but while we have it? King and Queen, King Charles and Queen Camilla - that's how it is.

TangledWebOfDeception · 24/02/2023 16:45

@Crucible ahaha. So am I, so am I. But I eat low carb so it’s all good!

ArcaneWireless · 24/02/2023 16:46

Thank you 😊@Crucible

It appealed to my inner Nan. 😈

LibrariansGiveUsPower · 24/02/2023 10:13

You remember Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother right? She was Queen, and remained Queen after her husband died, just with the addition of Queen Mother.

If Charles passes before Camila she will still be Queen Camilla - who knows what they’ll add, the King Stepmother seems a mouthful.

They won't need to add anything. The Queen Mother was only called Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother because she had the same name as the Queen.

RiceCooker · 24/02/2023 16:47

Surely the King & Queen took their roles the day after the death of Queen Elizabeth ?

ArcaneWireless · 24/02/2023 16:47

I can’t say that word about my mam but she practically exists on mayonnaise. The thought goes through my head a lot crucible. 😳

Xol · 24/02/2023 16:48

ConfusedNT · 24/02/2023 10:17

I'm imagining a scenario where you wake up from a brain injury and they want to test your memory and they ask 'who is the current monarch'

The patient answers 'Queen Elizabeth' and everyone nods, then realises that's wrong then realises they haven't got a clue if the patient has memory issues or if it's a perfectly normal answer

Apparently that was a real problem last year when using the standard question about who the Prime Minister was.

No he became King the moment she died. That’s how Monarchy works.

704703hey · 24/02/2023 16:49

It's bulkier saying Queen Consort rather than Queen!

The very moment she died.
There is never an empty throne!
