So Camilla is Queen now?

Headlines in the papers talking about what the Queen said yesterday at a reception.

I thought we had a King and a Queen Consort.

Phillip wasn't a King.

AIBU to think calling Camilla the Queen instead of the Queen Consort is going too far?

@whumpthereitis - you can say that until you are blue in the face, but people on here genuinely don't get it.

Quite. Although you have more chance of managing to etch every word ever written on top of a pin than you would manage to get that to sink in.

Shame really. Because if the bumbling fool description was correct, they’d have a friend who would fit right in.

Oh please, the Queen or King have no real
powers. They can’t make their ‘subjects’ do anything.

If people want to feel they’re subject to a ceremonial power, go for it, but they’ll be as bumbling as the current thronees.

I don’t recall saying anything about powers.

Some are excelling at bumbling though… and looking like a fool. It happens sometimes when folk try to put words in the mouths of others. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well yes, but none of that takes away from the fact that, as a subject, she is indeed your queen.

Maireas · 05/04/2023 20:54

Camilla is the Queen. Nowt you can do.
Unless you work towards a republican system. Even then - she'll still have been your Queen.

Yep you sure are bumbling and foolish in your forelock tugging to someone who has no powers. Whatever floats your boat.

So what can she make you do?

ArcaneWireless · 05/04/2023 21:15

Forelock tugging? Bit tricky with bald spots. Maybe it isn’t alopecia after all. 🤨

I’d rather play with what is left of my hair than put words into the mouths of others. Or choose to personally insult someone.

That will be where we differ. 🛥

Her rank is Queen Consort (as opposed to Queen Regnant). Her title is Queen.

StrawberriesSW1 · 06/05/2023 20:59

Yes, inspite C & C making Diana bulimic, depressed and suicidal if Charles dies before Camilla she will be Queen mother. We have finally crowned adultery with public funds. No one should complain about being cheated on in a marriage. It's all legal now. 😆

Addicted2Kale · 06/05/2023 20:59

The titles issues is banal. I'm more concerned about my taxes funding these fusty entitled poncey benefit scroungers in perpetuity.

Camilla won’t ever be Queen Mother.

If Charles died first she’d just be HM Queen Camilla. Or she could use Dowager in her title.

To be Queen Mother you have to be both dowager Queen and the mother of the reigning monarch.

It’s rarely used anyway - Mary and Alexandra were Queen Mother but didn’t bother using it as there was no confusion between them and the new Queen. QEQM only used it for clear differentiation to her daughter.

It wouldn't be Queen mother it would be king mother and no she wouldn't be called that as she isn't the kings mother.

It wouldn’t be King’s mother. The title stays as Queen mother regardless of the child being King or Queen.

I thought Queen Consorts became Queen Dowagers if they outlive their husband, but functionally just remained being called Queen.
Wasn't Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother only called that to avoid confusion between her as a widowed Queen Consort and her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, who was a queen regent?

They do.

if they’re the mother of the new monarch then they are Queen mother, but it’s not an often used title. The two Queen Elizabeth’s (although technically there was only one as QEII was HM The Queen) merited the use of it.

Both dowager and QM are rarely used as there’s no confusing Queens with different names.

My point in the post you quoted though was that Queen Motger is the title, if used, regardless if they as mother of a Queen or King. QEQM was Queen Mother because she was dowager Queen, Mother of the monarch. Not because she was mother of a Queen - Mary and Alexandra were also Queen Mother, albeit didn’t use it, despite having sons.

FeinCuroxiVooz · 07/05/2023 06:58

Yes there would only need to be a question of Camilla's title after Charles's death if William decides to divorce Kate and marry someone who also happens to be called Camilla. If there are two people called Queen Camilla you would need an official title to differentiate. But if William doesn't do something so confusing and psychologically interesting, there will just be Queen Camilla and Queen Catherine, with Queen Catherine being the senior queen as chattel of the ruling monarch as opposed to widow of the previous one.

That's interesting. I didn't realise that was the actual title and thought it was only brought into use due to the same names.
