So Camilla is Queen now?

Headlines in the papers talking about what the Queen said yesterday at a reception.

I thought we had a King and a Queen Consort.

Phillip wasn't a King.

AIBU to think calling Camilla the Queen instead of the Queen Consort is going too far?

And I don't really care.

tulips27 · 24/02/2023 07:22

It was obvious this would happen. I don't have a problem with it, that's her status after all. And "consort" has a little anti-women ring to it to me.

Everyone who says they don't care but still posts on the thread 😂

teezletangler · 24/02/2023 07:24

There is Queen Regnant (eg Elizabeth II) and Queen Consort (eg the queen mother, Camilla). Consort just means you're married to the monarch rather than being the monarch. They are all queens.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 24/02/2023 07:24

Of course she will be called the queen, like many other queen consorts before her.

I can understand why you might object to having a king and queen in the first place, but if you're going to accept the concept of monarchy at all, then you may as well accept that the King's wife will be referred to as the Queen. It is to be expected.

Why is that funny? 99% of the population don't actually care because it is not something of such importance that we need to give it head space but you can still pass a comment on something when asked and go back to not thinking about it.

This.
I think you may need to check Constitutional history before posting, OP.

You always get that with royalty threads. I'm never sure what the point is.

Front page of the Telegraph today

So Camilla is Queen now?
Phos · 24/02/2023 07:39

She is the Queen.

As for Philip not being King, that’s how British law works; a female in the royal bloodline marries, her husband is not eligible to take the male form of his wife’s title.

It came up on active threads and I don't understand why anyone would care about one word being dropped. My opinion that I don't care and don't understand why anyone would is as valid as the next man/woman's.

It's not in the Royal Family forum, which I have blocked. The op should really have posted there.

People saying they don't care that Camilla is now being referred to as Queen rather than Queen Consort is perfectly valid.

Your point would only be relevant if people were posting that they didn't care what the OPs thoughts were on the matter. <crying with extreme laughter etc emoji>

A lot of people don't know this, I think they mistake the title for the role.

You sound unhinged.

Maireas · 24/02/2023 07:50

I thought as much. The Cult of St Diana the Martyr.

FitAt50 · 24/02/2023 07:50

The wife of a king is always a queen. The husband of a Queen isn't called King because a king outranks a queen. The Queen mother was always called Queen Elizabeth when her bus and was King.

Who is we? No one i know is still mourning Diana, she'd have had her fair share of scandals by now if she was still around. She was no saint. Let it go, you sound ridiculous.

I think Camilla is great and almost every picture i see of her working and showing interest in the people she's meeting seems genuine, they seem to love her despite what the shit stirrers try to portray

pottshrigley · 24/02/2023 07:51

The Times dropped the consort bit a while ago.

Maireas · 24/02/2023 07:52

@FitAt50 she was also Queen Elizabeth when she wasn't on the bus!
(Sorry, I know what you mean! Crazy auto carrot)

You do know Charles and Diana were divorced? So Diana if she has lived would never have been Queen.

And you hope she dies before the coronation? You're wishing someone you presumably have never met dead? That seems a mix of very unpleasant and ridiculous to feel that strongly about someone who has no impact on your life.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 24/02/2023 07:52

Doesn't bother me I like her

LetMeSleepPleasex2 · 24/02/2023 07:53

A Queen Consort is a kind of Queen, like Queen Regnant or Queen Dowager. Just as you don't have to say Queen Regnant every time for QE2, so you don't have to say Queen Consort every time for Camilla. The press used Queen Consort for a while to avoid confusion but it's time to drop it.

Nimbostratus100 · 24/02/2023 07:54

she is the queen because she is married to the king.

if you dont like it, take it up with the English language

amaretti1999 · 24/02/2023 07:55

I heard someone on the radio say that after the coronation she would be known as Queen rather than Queen Consort 🤷‍♀️
