Our tumble dryer packed up so me and hubs made a dash to the launderette stuck our clothes on 45 minutes, left thinking nothing really of it we went to do some shopping that took around 50 to find someone had removed all our washing from the tumble dryer?!!

What! We wernt running massively over time and this launderette is not overly even use, It wasn’t even fully dried could of done with maybe ten more minutes! The only thing I can think of is us using “the big tumble dryer” but would you seriously remove anyones clothes at the launderette?!??

Maybe it’s been a while for me but it wouldn’t really enter my mind to touch anyone else’s stuff!

And if they have a lot of laundry to dry, why would they decide to pay £10 to use 2 small dryers when they could just remove your items and use the large dryer which saves them £2?

UserNameSameGame · 18/02/2023 15:43

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:32

Well why when there where 8 other tumble dryers available I’m yet to see a receipt ones to that one? Lol

If there were 8 other large tumble driers available, then YANBU.

But I think you have already said that you were hogging the only large tumble drier, in which case YABU and a CF to boot.

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:23

It was literally minutes though not hours! And the launderette was empty pretty much?! There was other dryers to use.

How could they have known how long you were going to be though?

newtb · 18/02/2023 15:45

Think yourself lucky, OP. The one in New Ferry, although cheaper than the nearer one, used to nick stuff - and that's 45 years ago.

Companyofwolves · 18/02/2023 15:47

Depends on number of bigger driers but is standard practice esp if only one bigger one & someone wants to dry duvets/quilts etc

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:47

Ok so I didn’t accpect my personal washing to
be touched and I’m the asshole lol! I’d rather have divided it into 2 tumble dryers I just wouldn’t dare touch anyone else items?

OP posts:
ColdHandsHotHead · 18/02/2023 15:48

I'm just gobsmacked you don't know all this. You mean you've never used a laundrette before?

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:48

Well the time on the dryer was a dead giveaway lol

'Me and hubs.' LMFAO 😆

Of COURSE YABU @Babsexxx You're in a public place. Bet you are shocked when you reserve a changing room at the swimming baths and leave all your stuff in there while you go for a swim, and people move all your shit from there too! 😜

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:51

Lol no

OP posts:
Justalittlebitduckling · 18/02/2023 15:51

I think if this is going to bother you then you need to be there for when your washing finishes.

Oysterbabe · 18/02/2023 15:51

Listen to everyone who is telling you that this is normal laundrette behaviour. If you don't want people to touch your stuff then don't be late.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/02/2023 15:52

This reminds me of when I first left home (30+ years ago) and used the laundrette regularly. I would stay in there (where it was warm) and write letters to my mates. And chain smoke 😂😂😂 Happy days!

(YABU BTW.)

Staff in the launderette near me do this.
They run on the basis you can only use the washing machine or tumble dryer for the time you have paid for.

So, you'll know not to leave your personal washing unattended, in a public place, causing a nuisance to others, in future.
And, yes, you are. But you know that now so will hopefully learn from being told so, unanimously, and will be less inconsiderate of others, next time.

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:54

Soo strange of me to think people wouldn’t want to even handle others washing?! Christ I said there where 8 other tumble dryers available I’m not a idiot if it was rammed I’d of been like get there right in the nose but I didn’t leave anyone without use

Yes, you are.

I think by this point in the thread, you need to accept that you were unaware of laundrette etiquette and move on.

Ponoka7 · 18/02/2023 15:55

It's always been standard practice to move people's finished washing in the launderettes I've used. Thing only thing I don't like is when men take it upon themselves to fold my stuff.

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:55

I don’t get how it was a nuisance when they had other options to dry there clothing? I didn’t leave them all out of options lol

UserNameSameGame · 18/02/2023 15:55

Why do people post on AIBU, unanimously get told that they ABU, and then argue back?

JollyHolly30 · 18/02/2023 15:56

I don't believe for a second there were 7 other big ones given the way you first described it.

midgemadgemodge · 18/02/2023 15:56

Well the washing was clean

In some laundrettes there is a manger who will remove all finished stuff even if other dryers are available

It's standard etiquette

OutofEverything · 18/02/2023 15:56

@Babsexxx As I said the staff in my local laundrette do this. They do not care if there are other ones free. If you are not there and they are not too busy they remove the clothes from the machine. You only get to use them for the time you have paid for them.
And 5 minutes late is a lot for a laundrette.

tealandteal · 18/02/2023 15:56

This is quite common but at the least you know for next time. When I had to use a launderette I was always there 5 minutes before the end to get the laundry out.
