Our tumble dryer packed up so me and hubs made a dash to the launderette stuck our clothes on 45 minutes, left thinking nothing really of it we went to do some shopping that took around 50 to find someone had removed all our washing from the tumble dryer?!!

What! We wernt running massively over time and this launderette is not overly even use, It wasn’t even fully dried could of done with maybe ten more minutes! The only thing I can think of is us using “the big tumble dryer” but would you seriously remove anyones clothes at the launderette?!??

Maybe it’s been a while for me but it wouldn’t really enter my mind to touch anyone else’s stuff!

No they had actually left for washing to dry themselves

So in that 5 minutes they had looked to see if you were there, pulled all your washing out of the machine, put theirs in, started the machine and then gone off?

I think it was longer than 5 minutes.

(please try to use the quote function, it’s very hard to work out what you are replying to).

Actually I think your wrong it costs me a lot more to use a launderette just saying!

i wouldn’t make people wait hours that’s ridiculous and completely out of order!

i would be more understanding but 5 minutes I can’t really comprehend.

Can you comprehend that people waiting for you to return don't know whether you'll be five minutes or five hours?

KiwiMum2023 · 18/02/2023 16:15

Think you meant to type in Netmums OP. You’ll probably find a more sympathetic audience over there. Seems more your sort of place.

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 16:09

I posted here as I don’t have any experience with a launderette, not sure how many are grown women given the responses lol

Well, now you know it’s completely normal so you don’t have to be outraged and can get on with your day.

Nynynyny2018 · 18/02/2023 16:19

Five mins of your time can be the equivalent of an hour to someone else who has a busy life ! You really need to get over it and accept that you are being very unreasonable.

Skodacool · 18/02/2023 16:20

DeedlessIndeed · 18/02/2023 16:12

OP, everyone else is saying this is standard, that you should not take it personally and there is a valid reason why it is moved (big drier, preheated).

Okay, maybe you were initially shocked and felt it was an invasion of privacy, because you weren't aware of the etiquette. But now it has been explained I don't understand why you are still so outraged?

She is simply not going to get it so we might as well give up

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 16:22

I’m not trying to be a asshole I’m just trying to see some sort of sense there was dryers available I didn’t selfishly leave people without, that’s ridiculous!

I just was completely unaware that people could remove your washing as and when.

CharlotteDoyle · 18/02/2023 16:23

OP do you think perhaps your fellow laundretter was teaching you a lesson?

new2mn · 18/02/2023 16:24

I was too embarrassed to do it the first few times using a launderette during uni days, but over time removed quite a few people's washing (and had mine removed as well – good incentive to come back on time).

If you're just using it once in a blue moon, of course you can afford to sit around and wait.

But when you use a launderette as part of your fixed weekly routine, you don't want to spend ages (or even 5 mins tbh – think busy mum with kids and childcare routine) sitting around waiting for someone else to come pick up their clothes, when you don't know how long they'll be gone.

It could have been the staff as well. Staff often do.

CakeWarrior · 18/02/2023 16:24

I think it is you who is not the grown woman OP. You asked for opinions, you have received the response that it was rude to leave your laundry, and that given the washing was not fully dry then perhaps your " 5 minutes late" was actually longer and therefore it was removed. Yet your attitude is awful. If you are not happy with being told yes - YABU then do not post asking, then throw attitude when people do not agree with you. Mission for tomorrow perhaps is to go and purchase a new dryer if you either A) Do not wish to wait with your laundry whilst it dries and B) Do not want your things removing when you are not back within the timescale.

Soakitup37 · 18/02/2023 16:25

Shocked I say!! Shocked!!

new2mn · 18/02/2023 16:25

If yours wasn't the biggest dryer, and there were other equally big dryers available, it was probably the staff. I don't think any other customer would bother removing your laundry just for the sake of it.

IncompleteSenten · 18/02/2023 16:29

How do you expect anyone to know why whoever took them out actually did it? People are giving their suggestions and you're arguing back like they were the ones who took your washing out!

Maybe the staff are sick of people leaving their washing in machines and they take it out the minute it's done regardless how many machines are free. You were only '5 minutes' but they aren't psychic. Maybe others have been hours. Machine finished. You weren't there. Your washing got dumped out. 🤷

AnnoyedwithGossips · 18/02/2023 16:31

Is it possible @Babsexxx that someone without much money realised you weren't there and then took your washing out and popped theirs in for a free dry ...

Otherwise, perhaps when you weren't there the dryers were all being used, except yours which had ended and so out with the washing that had ended and in with theirs. Were they there waiting for theirs to dry when you came back to discover yours was taken out. The intrigued of that. Did you question felly launderette users who did it.

Hesma · 18/02/2023 16:33

I’m amazed you didn’t expect this 🙄🤣

You selfishly left them without access to the only big drier.

If you think someone with a load that fits the big drier should use two smaller driers for more money, why didn't you do that yourself?

Is it because you preferred to pay £8 than £10 too?

I have used a launderette many times when I didn’t have a washing machine.

YANBU

I never would have taken out someone’s laundry when there were other machines available, unless it had been a good 10 minutes or if the others were in use.

The bigger machines are often used for duvets and things and so I can see why they’d need to take your things out if there was no other big machine.

I always used to go back 10mins early though as if it’s finished it is likely someone would take my stuff out so they could use it.
I always had a fear that someone would steal my stuff (not sure why they’d want to).

Lesson learned.
Don’t be late if you don’t want people touching your stuff.

SgtBilko · 18/02/2023 16:38

It has been my experience that some dryers are better than others so I would always want the one that runs hotter. Also, if you have a large wash then you want the large drier. It's normal etiquette to remove washing and put it in a basket if the drier has stopped and no-one claims their washing. My launderette is staffed and he always does this.

You say you were using "the big dryer", so I assume the others were smaller. If it was the biggest then you can surely see why someone would want to use it rather than one of the others, like you did. As PP said, it's also preheated now which is an advantage.
