Our tumble dryer packed up so me and hubs made a dash to the launderette stuck our clothes on 45 minutes, left thinking nothing really of it we went to do some shopping that took around 50 to find someone had removed all our washing from the tumble dryer?!!

What! We wernt running massively over time and this launderette is not overly even use, It wasn’t even fully dried could of done with maybe ten more minutes! The only thing I can think of is us using “the big tumble dryer” but would you seriously remove anyones clothes at the launderette?!??

Maybe it’s been a while for me but it wouldn’t really enter my mind to touch anyone else’s stuff!

No of course but can people not use the minerals in there brain and see plenty of other unoccupied dryers?!

CremeEggThief · 18/02/2023 15:30

Of course YABU. You can't expect others to wait around for you in this situation. How was anybody else to know if you were running 5 minutes late or 5 hours late?

You either stay at the launderette yourself for the entire time, you make sure you're back 5 minutes before your cycle is due to end OR you ask for a service wash. Those three choices are all reasonable. Not what you chose!

Setyoufree · 18/02/2023 15:31

People have already explained that the largest drier is the one that people want.

If you don't want others to touch your washing, you need to be there for when it's finished.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 18/02/2023 15:31

Standard laundrette etiquette. Clothes dry quicker in the machine that is preheated. If it ain't going round, it gets emptied.

HoldingTheDoor · 18/02/2023 15:31

No one knows if you're going to be 5 minutes or 50 and either way you're late.

They removed it. They didn't take a shit in it and put it back on rapid dry. You'll get over it and perhaps you'll be on time in the future.

another1bitestheduck · 18/02/2023 15:31

yeah sorry agree with everyone else. I originally thought perhaps I'd wait a few minutes to give you a chance to come back but then I wouldn't know whether you'd be back in 5 minutes or half an hour.

Also how 'overly even use' the laundrette is is irrelevant, it's clearly busy enough that there was a queue for the big tumble dryer! So either there is only one big dryer in which case I would be very aware if I was using it that meant nobody else could, so would make even more of an effort to be back on time, or there are several dryers but they were all in use, which suggests it was actually quite busy?

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:32

Well why when there where 8 other tumble dryers available I’m yet to see a receipt ones to that one? Lol

Why didn't you do that? Use one of the plenty of other unoccupied dryers? You've already said you took up the 'big one'. If you weren't drying a big load, or a duvet, why take up the only one that can?

LosingMyPancakes · 18/02/2023 15:33

Given your claims that the place was quite empty, I bet it was the owner who did it. They don't want other customers to be put off if they wanted to use the dryer and there's usually lots of notices up saying don't leave washing in machines/unattended etc.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 18/02/2023 15:33

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:32

If there are other driers available it does seem quite passive aggressive to use one that has dry clothes in!

LonginesPrime · 18/02/2023 15:34

People have said - an already warm drier is more efficient to use. Plus, it was the big one.

Nimbostratus100 · 18/02/2023 15:34

of course they are entitled to use the machine
it was rude of you not to be there when your machine finished
But if you knw that is a risk, you need to leave your bag right by the machine so people can empty your clothes into it

and having other driers apparantly available means nothing, you dont know if they are available, or efficient, or clean, or anything

But mostly YABU if you can dry clothes without a drier and have a drier at home, and /or use a public one anyway, as they are terrible for the environment, and really only justified for people with very little space

another1bitestheduck · 18/02/2023 15:34

so were the other tumble dryers available? or was this the only big one?
If there were other tumble dryers the same size free then it is odd and unreasonable to specifically want to use yours. If you were using the only big one then it's fair enough - you have to pay per machine so why would they pay twice as much to do 2 lots of drying if they could fit it all in the big one?

MrsBunnyEars · 18/02/2023 15:34

You said it was the big tumble dryer, so presumably it’s the most useful.

MumofSpud · 18/02/2023 15:35

My washing machine has broken down so I have been using a laundrette recently
Yes - if the washing cycle has finished and I am not there somebody will take my stuff out and put it in a basket (I assume a person who works there does that) so the machine is freed up whether someone is waiting or not
I always stay anyway as I think it's out of order for me not to do this myself

PriamFarrl · 18/02/2023 15:35

Hang on. You put your drying on for 45 minutes and came back after 50 minutes to find that someone had taken your washing out of the dryer?
But if they had done that after your washing had finished then their washing would have still been in the dryer, and presumably they would have been there too.
So either they took your washing out long before it had finished, which is a dick move, or your were longer than you said.

ShinyMe · 18/02/2023 15:36

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:32

Well why when there where 8 other tumble dryers available I’m yet to see a receipt ones to that one? Lol

Because they wanted the big one that was already hot!
It's standard launderette etiquette.

MumofSpud · 18/02/2023 15:36

Oh and re: the dryers - in my laundrette there are 6 - to me they all look the same but they aren't they are different sizes (volume? I suppose)

UKNZKiwiBrit · 18/02/2023 15:37

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:28

It was 5 minutes not 5 hours if no one read my op it’s stated this is not a busy launderette! At all literally lots of other tumble dryers available

Busy enough that someone else wanted the 'Big Dryer'.
you're in the wrong pissing off & not being back before the machine finished.

admit it. Accept it. Move on.

as it happens, I think you're just bored & on a wind up anyway.

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:40

no it’s 8 to use big 5 for small i when you totally get it if the place was heaving packed etc but that’s just not the case here! There was plenty someone literally stood by and gave 5 minutes of leeway and all my stuff wasn’t dry!!! I think no one should touch anyones shit especially in launderette I’d never do it!!! Wouldn’t enter my mind because I have respect for other peoples property I would of used one of the many free tumble dryers!!

OP posts:
HoldingTheDoor · 18/02/2023 15:40

Apparently though you have no respect for other people's time.

Usernameusavailable · 18/02/2023 15:41

But you don’t respect other peoples time do you? HTH

Usernameusavailable · 18/02/2023 15:42

@HoldingTheDoor got there before me

cariadlet · 18/02/2023 15:42

I agree with everyone else - apart from the OP.

I haven't needed to use a laundrette for years but if I did, I would make sure to return before the cycle finished.

If I returned after it had finished, I'd have no problem with someone removing my laundry - provided they put it in one of those big plastic baskets rather than chuck it on the floor.
