Caffe Nero

I visited a Caffe Nero today and was surprised about the amount of dogs in there.
It was a fairly small cafe probably around 15 tables/seating areas. There were 8 dogs, 4 of which were on the chairs/sofa and one that seemed to be getting under everyones feet when they passed.
I think it is really unhygienic for a place that sells food to be allowing dogs to sit on the chairs.

If you have children you have no right to be annoyed or sniffy about other people’s children being in public places.

and sometimes kids tantrum. So what. I can’t imagine being such a massive wet wipe that this would upset me. I’d just be thinking ‘thank Christ I’m not having to deal with that’

So once you have had a child you have no right to find other people’s children annoying? Even if they are running around a restaurant screaming or kicking the back of your seat on a flight? Nope, because you once had a child, even if it was 50 years ago, then you must never ever complain. Ok then.

I think we are talking at cross purposes here.

Im it saying having a child means you should always enjoy other children.

Im saying it’s weird to have children, raise them (in which time you presumably take them in public) then despair and huff because other people’s kids are in public.

If they are doing something like kicking your seat yes you can be annoyed but it seems many problem with older kids think children should be seen and not heard (someone actually posted those very words on a thread the other day!)

I hate dogs being in cafes. Puts me off.

Same here. Loads of them in marks and spencers today. Thing is some of them clearly didn't want to be sat in the cafe or wandering around the clothes

Doggy folk surround themselves with doggy folk. So they think that everyone loves their slobbery stinky mutts as much as they do. I think threads like this are a shock to them.

Hardly. We get one every week. They’re always full of the same posters, easily identifiable by their writing style, despite their frequent name changes.

Of course you can be huffy about other people's badly behaved children - especially when there are very few (if any) public places adults can go to get away from children - especially during the day.

Just because children are allowed in pubs, restaurants and coffee shops, doesn't mean they can run around behaving badly. And people (parents or non-parents) shouldn't be expected to just put up with it either.

Not quite as bad as the other one currently going. We haven't had poisoning dogs on this one yet.

This is the thing. Dogs don’t generally like being in shops, or cafes. There are loads of dogs at my local farmer’s market and a lot of them are clearly stressed. Why do people bring them to a noisy, busy environment?

Dogs like fields, beaches and woods, otherwise they like being in their own home. I’m pretty sure they’re not enjoying Cafe Nero.

My dog likes being where I am. So if that's cafe Nero, or the pub or the beach, then that is where he wants to be. He lies under the tables with his head on my foot. Only coming up for a bit of biscuit.

grafittiartist · 18/02/2023 19:59

We don't hate dogs. We just don't want to have to share spaces with them if we don't want to.

So don't go to cafe Nero

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 18/02/2023 21:11

Isn’t it funny how, despite SO MANY badly behaved dogs everywhere, none of the owners are on MN Grin then again same goes for MNers kids, they’re always well behaved (as well as ‘strapping’ ‘lean’ and 6’4” at the age of 9 😂)

The dogs aren’t usually the problem. It’s the selfish entitled idiots they’re usually shackled to.

Well indeed! The numpties who, as their mutt sniffs my crotch shout “Oh he’s just making friends”. Yeah my vagina doesn’t wanna make friends with your dog dickhead. Get it away from me.

So don't.

There are plenty of dog-free places you can visit instead Confused

I don't think the chairs are used to put the food on so you should be okay on the hygiene front?

I don't want dirty feet or bare arses on chairs though. Human or canine.

journeyofinsanity · 18/02/2023 22:58

@Snoken have you ever had a dog? I can assure you they frequently have a poopy smear or dingleberry stuck on their butt hair. I've seen French bull dogs for some reason with terrible smeared arseholes. Someone told me they have digestive issues.

angelikacpickles · 18/02/2023 23:06

Snoken · 17/02/2023 21:16

Poo particles are everywhere. On door handles, money, cash machines etc. I agree that the dogs shouldn’t be on the furniture in public places but that poster said her hands would be covered in poo if she touched a seat where a dog has sat. That is simply not the case.

No I didn't say that. I said I'd rather the couch not be covered in dog poo from dogs' bottoms. Just because there aren't visible smears of poo doesn't mean it's not there.

Get a coffee elsewhere or make a flask .Nobody is forcing you to go there.

YDBear · 19/02/2023 03:59

Don’y know about dogs in Nero, it’s the incredibly weak coffee that puts me off, almost as bad as Starbucks’ notorious coffee-flavoured milk masquerading as the real thing.

brightare · 19/02/2023 04:10

I love dogs and kids, but neither should stand on chairs. Feet are for the floor. Doesn't seem like a hard rule to follow

BooseysMom · 19/02/2023 04:16

Tiddler39 · 18/02/2023 07:26

I think it’s because they’re increasingly becoming a nuisance.

I grew up with dogs and they were much loved, but they weren’t treated like humans. Now they are everywhere you wouldn’t expect them to be - and as the number of dogs has increased the care owners take to properly train them has decreased.

I’ve definitely been put off dogs by the sheer number of badly behaved ones around.

Hence the ‘daily dog thread’ - it’s because previously if you didn’t like dogs you could avoid them. Now you can’t.

Absolutely this.

I love Neros but I hate dogs. Thankfully we tend to go so early in the morning there are very few in there.

Ricco12 · 19/02/2023 04:48

I have a dog who comes most places with us, I would never allow him on furniture. He is trained to lie down under our table and not disturb anyone

This is what all dogs should be doing.

Dogs on furniture and faces up at tables isn't acceptable in my eyes, and a sign of selfish irresponsible owners.

Merryweather80 · 19/02/2023 06:05

Who the hell changes a nappy on a table in a cafe? That's disgusting.
I love animals and have my own but I have no desire to sit on a slobbery, fluffy chair with Fido's anal glands or poo on them thanks.
And as for snotty kids- why are people allowing that either. Wipe their hands and faces and sit them in a high chair or keep in the pushchair. Clean up after yourself and your dogs/ children.
It's not difficult.

I'll stay at home I think, it's safer.
