Caffe Nero

I visited a Caffe Nero today and was surprised about the amount of dogs in there.
It was a fairly small cafe probably around 15 tables/seating areas. There were 8 dogs, 4 of which were on the chairs/sofa and one that seemed to be getting under everyones feet when they passed.
I think it is really unhygienic for a place that sells food to be allowing dogs to sit on the chairs.
AIBU?

Why because I do t like to eat dog hair 😂 well I’m pleased I don’t have obnoxious deluded dog owners if my life.

Doggy folk surround themselves with doggy folk. So they think that everyone loves their slobbery stinky mutts as much as they do. I think threads like this are a shock to them.

Dogs don’t sit on their bums on chairs like humans…

Er yes they do! Their bare arse holes go onto the chair/table/ground. How else do dogs sit?!

Nobody's bare arsehole - canine or human - touches anything when they sit down.

I'm so so happy I don't have anyone like you in my life. It makes me so thankful

I can pretty much guarantee that you do. You just don't see them rolling their eyes when your back is turned.

Same with parents.

Well yeah they’re humans, they’re who the coffee shop is for. They don’t need to be kept on leads, they don’t bark and leave hair everywhere.

They may be humans but let's not pretend toddlers are nice and clean and quiet WinkThey scream, cry and tantrum, have runny noses, drop food down themselves and often wipe grubby hands all over the furniture.

Anyone who is being badly behaved in a restaurant or café should be asked to leave, whether they're human or animal imo.

Yes but they’re still humans - no one should expects silence in a cafe and that’s not why people are annoyed about dogs. We should have far more tolerance for kids and far less for dogs.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 18/02/2023 11:00

What, all of them need to emotionally support adults having coffee?!

Only on MN 😂

We were talking about this the other day at home. We went to Home bargains and some bloke had a little sausage dog in there and I wondered why dogs were allowed in what is essentially a supermarket (I dont mind dogs, dont have a problem with them in restaurants/cafes/pubs).

Then my OH said the dog was wearing a coat saying 'support dog'

Thats all you have to do, put some coat on and pretend your dog is a 'support dog' and probably no one will have the guts to challenge you

Disagree. Half term has been a total PITA with families sprawling across the pavements and attention-seeking kids getting in the way everywhere, knocking stuff over in shops and screeching.

All I've seen from dogs is some dogs quietly mooching around the shops on leads.

I expect better behaviour from humans if humans are supposedly so superior to animals.

Ifailed · 18/02/2023 11:27

Completely off-topic, but I've always read the sign as Cafe Nerd.

How dare kids be out enjoying themselves over half term? Lock them in their houses until school goes back.

Kids can be slightly loud and annoying when they are having fun for a few years when they are young. Then they grow into adults who contribute to the economy and society. Dogs stay like human toddlers until they die.

Most take far more out of the system than they pay back in tax.

I think I have been lucky. I have never had a random child run through my picnic and ruin it. Or had one jump up at me with their shoes. Or had one come up and lick my face. Or wander up to me in a cafe and put their mouth in my bag and nuzzle my skirt. Or poo on the pavement outside my house. Or jump up and bite my son on his arm. Or pick up my tennis ball in their mouth and slobber all over it.

Considering children and dogs are identical, this is extraordinary!

I’m lucky too! Also never been bitten by a child or had one stick it’s nose on my crotch

How do you figure that one out?

Dogs have exposed arseholes. Their arse holes touch whatever is underneath them when they sit down.

You can get them off Amazon too

Agreed.

Then again the people who prefer dogs over humans I find do so because they like to have an obedient being (who, let’s face it, likes them because that’s the person who feeds them, not because of their sparkling personality) who does as it’s told and doesn’t answer back.

But why should everyone be tolerant of badly behaved, noisy children?

Cafes aren't silent places but they're also not creches - if parents want to bring their children along they should be well-behaved and staff should be allowed to tell them to leave if they're disruptive, messy and loud. The same should apply to dogs.

It's got nothing to do with obedience. I like lots of different animals. Children I find irritating.

I am sure there are entitled parents too. I never let my young kids go anywhere near others though and knew it was wrong for my kids to approach or hassle others. Shame so many dog owners lack such self-awareness isn’t it?

In the same vein, why should people tolerate dogs?

The vast majority of children in cafes are well behaved IME.

Problem solved.

I definitely wouldn’t give my money to a dog friendly cafe. I don’t like hairs in my panini or having my crotch sniffed thank you

IndiaDreamer · 18/02/2023 12:42

@TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl that's for be, don't go to one then! Not sure what all the fuss is about? Why complain about something you don't use?

There aren't any child-free cafes here, so no, that's not an option for me. Believe me, if it was, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

It's very easy for dog-haters to avoid dogs if they want to. What's silly is choosing the dog-friendly option and then complaining that there are dogs there.
