Caffe Nero

user87388988 · 17/02/2023 19:19

I visited a Caffe Nero today and was surprised about the amount of dogs in there.
It was a fairly small cafe probably around 15 tables/seating areas. There were 8 dogs, 4 of which were on the chairs/sofa and one that seemed to be getting under everyones feet when they passed.
I think it is really unhygienic for a place that sells food to be allowing dogs to sit on the chairs.
AIBU?

Really? You're happy to sit on a chair that a dog has rubbed its dirty bottom on? Grim.

Well - yes. I don't lick the chairs.

What germs do you think will transfer to you through your clothing, exactly?

JMSA · 17/02/2023 19:50

And I would never allow him on seats anyway.

"Really? You're happy to sit on a chair that a dog has rubbed its dirty bottom on? Grim."

I've seen children in the local cafe Nero wiping their noses / bums / dirty fingers all over the furniture so a dogs bum is a risk I'll take. Peoples shoes that have been on the chairs are just as dirty.

I generally don't sit on the chair naked or lick it and I clean my hands before I eat anything so I'm okay!

NormalForNuneaton · 17/02/2023 19:52

I go to our local Caffe Nero about once a week and although there are sometimes dogs in there I've never noticed them on the seats, they're usually pretty chilled by their owners feet . There was one exception recently where this huge dog kept letting out a one off very loud bark every few minutes.

I'm not a dog person but don't have an issue with it providing the dog owners are responsible which, on the whole, they seem to be in my local one

KimberleyClark · 17/02/2023 19:53

There are a few dog friendly coffee shops where I live and I’ve never been in one where a dog was doing anything other than lying under the owner’s table chilling and minding its own business.

Lavender14 · 17/02/2023 19:54

I go to Caffe Nero because they are dog friendly and have brought my dog in at times. It's where he learnt how to sit under the table quietly and behave. I agree dogs shouldn't be on the furniture in cafes/restaurants in the same way I wouldn't put my feet on the furniture there.

SeeYouNextTLol · 17/02/2023 20:00

FFS. They obviously allow this as they are a shit shop that need to attract customers with dogs. Hopefully the other decent coffee shops don’t allow them in.

There are dogs EVERYWHERE at the moment! All the cafes I visit seem to have them. Absolutely hate it. I don’t understand why it’s acceptable

This totally

why the F am I supposed to put up with Fidos fur, slobber and stench in a cafe. 😒

I’d rather sit on a chair a dog has been on than eat off a table that has been used for changing a nappy.

It's not a race to the bottom (see what I did there?)

Well sometimes if I am sitting on a couch, I might rest my hands on it too and I'd rather it not be covered in dog poo TBH. Small children (who also sit on seats in coffee shops) quite often put their hands in their mouths. And it's not just about germs either, it's about actual dirt - I don't really want to stand up from a chair in a coffee shop to find my clothes dirty.

If you want to share your furniture at home with an animal, that's fine, but I can't believe anyone is defending allowing dogs onto furniture in a cafe.

chipshopElvis · 17/02/2023 20:10

Seems to be a recent thing but it means I stay away now. Not keen at all was bothered by a smelly dog last time I went and it was fairly unpleasant.

Have you ever seen a dog covered in poo in a café? They tend not to be. Their anatomy is different to humans and they don’t need wiping after they have done a number two. I think that particular exaggerated worry can be disregarded.

DottieUncBab · 17/02/2023 20:18

brilliant I love truly dog friendly cafes I’ll make sure I pop in to my local one

CloakAndTin · 17/02/2023 20:22

Where I live dog friendly cafés are generally very busy, non-dog friendly not so much. Personally I think the cafés that don't allow dogs are missing out on a lot of business.

We went to Malvern a few weeks ago. Took the dog so needed a dog friendly place. Asked at a few quiet cafés if we could bring the dog in - sorry no. Then we found café Nero which was packed with dogs and their owners, so we ate there. Personally I'm not keen on chain cafés but if no-one else wants our money I'm happy to use them.

Erm..neither is OK. You don't need to rate hygiene standards by that comparison.

You do realise that there can be and more often than not are, unseen poo particles on dogs bums? I mean would it be OK for people to put their feet up on chairs and couches in coffee shops? No. Because their shoes have trodden all over the dirty ground. As have dog paws.

mondaytosunday · 17/02/2023 20:37

Im fine with dogs in cafés but if not behaving properly (and they should not be allowed on seats) the staff should intervene.

FictionalCharacter · 17/02/2023 21:07

crew2022 · 17/02/2023 19:45

As long as dogs are properly controlled and not allowed on chairs or tables I am ok with it. Have you seen the mess some people let their kids make in coffee shops?

OP said that 4 out of the 8 dogs in there were on the chairs or sofas.

I can almost guarantee that most of those small children don't wash their hands properly and wipe them all over the sofas you rest your hands on. They also pick their noses and wipe them everywhere, dribble, have snot running down their faces and drop chewed up food down themselves.

I've also never sat on a chair in a coffee shop that's visibly covered with dirt, nor have I ever left somewhere filthy because of dogs.

Poo particles are everywhere. On door handles, money, cash machines etc. I agree that the dogs shouldn’t be on the furniture in public places but that poster said her hands would be covered in poo if she touched a seat where a dog has sat. That is simply not the case.

marmitegirl01 · 17/02/2023 21:32

it seems that us non dog lovers just need to put up & shut up.
hopefully the tide will turn. I saw report that a shopping centre had revoked dogs being allowed recently, due to owners not controlling them. 🎉👌
I just don’t see why dogs have to be in food places in shopping areas ( as opposed to pubs/ cafes in parks etc) or in shops.

Appleskypietoday · 17/02/2023 21:37

As a dog owner I would never allow my dog on a chair of cafe nero
