Caffe Nero

user87388988 · 17/02/2023 19:19

I visited a Caffe Nero today and was surprised about the amount of dogs in there.
It was a fairly small cafe probably around 15 tables/seating areas. There were 8 dogs, 4 of which were on the chairs/sofa and one that seemed to be getting under everyones feet when they passed.
I think it is really unhygienic for a place that sells food to be allowing dogs to sit on the chairs.
AIBU?

Has anyone ever Been in a Neros with clean not smelly toilets though?

KimberleyClark · 18/02/2023 07:32

There are a couple of small chains in my area where being dog friendly is their USP/raison d’etre. They sell home made dog treats as well as human treats. One of them uses part of its profit to support guide dogs. All good.

LikeTearsInRain · 18/02/2023 07:49

Could they be emotional support animals?

All of them?!

Also, I think all pets are ‘emotional support animals’, aren’t they? That’s why we have them.

But unless they are actually a guide dog, you need to be able to function out in the world without them. Which means not taking them everywhere you go.

brilliant I love truly dog friendly cafes I’ll make sure I pop in to my local one

Well it's alright for you then hey?

OnaBegonia · 18/02/2023 08:00

Kids standing on chairs, in shopping trolleys etc is also unhygienic but still it goes on, if you don't like dos don't go in.

OdeToBarney · 18/02/2023 08:17

Gross. No thank you. Why is it people can no longer go anywhere without their dogs?

And the comparisons with children are ridiculous. They're either wearing clothes or nappies and clothes, I've NEVER seen anyone change a nappy on a table or sofa (except a sofa in the toilet corridors when the baby change was out of order and nowhere else to change baby - not me, I witnessed it) and surely anyone with kids old enough to be eating independently is washing their hands before they eat?

However DD got a gastro bug from a pub a couple of weeks ago despite me cleaning down the hairchair and table (started being sick exactly 36 hours later and hadn't been anywhere the day before or day after) so evidently some humans are pretty gross too.

whyhere · 18/02/2023 08:57

Caffè Nero is my favourite coffee shop and I often take my dog with me. However I would never allow him on the seating - he's not permitted to do that at the vet, never mind in a cafe!

angelikacpickles · 17/02/2023 19:41

Really? You're happy to sit on a chair that a dog has rubbed its dirty bottom on? Grim.

Dogs don’t sit on their bums on chairs like humans…

And I assume you’re wearing clothes which touch all sorts of filthy things throughout the day - I would say kids’ hands are much more disgusting than any part of a dog and they get EVERYWHERE.

Airplant · 18/02/2023 09:12

Despise dogs in cafes and refuse to use them, simple reason there is always on idiot that lets there dod beg at your table or start sniffing around where your sat. So no.

Besides so many dogs stink.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2023 09:14

Our cafe Nero has been dog friendly for years. Me and my dog used to go in quite regularly.

LakieLady · 18/02/2023 09:23

By the sound of it, dog owners are a big part of Cafe Nero's customer base. I suspect that makes allowing them in is very profitable for them.

If the people who don't like it vote with their feet and go elsewhere, they might change their mind on the dog issue if it affects their takings.

I’ve never had a dog beg at my table in a dog friendly cafe.

Comparing dogs to kids seems to be the only argument some obnoxious dog owners can come up with. Also dogs are known to sniff / lick other dogs' bottoms, eat vomit and even poo. When they sit up, their bums are very much on the surface underneath.

I would not eat at someone’s home who owns dogs. Luckily we don’t have friends who have them.

That's so sad. I eat at friends houses who have dogs and my parents. Doesn't bother me. You are being ridiculous

Emmamoo89 · 18/02/2023 09:30

To the ones against it you are being ridiculous. I love dogs. Will definitely visit soon

Snoken · 17/02/2023 19:48

All those saying dogs are gross and unhygienic, would you not eat at someone’s home either if they have dogs? I have two dogs and my house is perfectly clean and I don’t rub my groceries on my dogs bums or let them lick the food. Animals aren’t gross, a lot of humans are though.

I think dog owners that say their house is smell-free and immaculate are deluded. And TBH I don’t like to eat in a house that has dogs because I find hairs everywhere including in my food. SIL did Christmas dinner, she has 3 Collies that weren’t allowed in the kitchen as she cooked. Still managed to find half a dozen dog hairs mixed up in my dinner 🤢

I'm so so happy I don't have anyone like you in my life. It makes me so thankful

@angelikacpickles

"Really? You're happy to sit on a chair that a dog has rubbed its dirty bottom on? Grim."

I've seen children in the local cafe Nero wiping their noses / bums / dirty fingers all over the furniture so a dogs bum is a risk I'll take. Peoples shoes that have been on the chairs are just as dirty.

I generally don't sit on the chair naked or lick it and I clean my hands before I eat anything so I'm okay!

Are these children’s bare arse holes exposed when they do it?

I do feel rather embarrassed when people compare dogs to children. Children are the same as us but smaller, no one is scared of children, they don’t cast hair, bark, rub their bare arse holes everywhere and they (normally) don’t reek

That comparison is all they have. They all come out with it when they are bleating their defence of their unhygienic habits.

I'm on the fence on this one. I don't have a dog because I don't like them. However, a lot of my friends unfortunately do, and finding a pub / cafe that we can go to together can be such a pain as they will usually bring their dog.

Why do people insist on bringing their bloody dogs everywhere?

I went for a run with a friend a little while ago. She’s brought her sprinter spaniel 🙄 I ended up ditching her in the run because if the bloody thing wasn’t running in front of me whilst I ran we were stopping to let it have a sniff of something and I don’t like to lose my momentum

UserEleventyBillionandOne · 18/02/2023 09:43

YABU about the dogs and also YABU for supporting one of these shit coffee chains. I was in a European city a few weeks ago and there were so many lovely independent cafes, it really made me realise how homogeneous and boring the high streets in the UK are, just full of Nero’s and costas to the exclusion of everything else. The dogs are they only thing worth going in there for imo!
