...the UK is becoming? The scenes in Liverpool were shocking and I fear this is just the beginning.

Oh dear.

Oh dear indeed. Are you being serious @VeniVidiWeeWee 🥱

Diverging · 11/02/2023 21:16

I think it is really concerning that there are a lot of men with completely different values coming here. Their attitudes towards women, girls and LGBT people can often be totally different to ours and very frightening.

Bard6817 · 11/02/2023 21:17

ilovesooty · 11/02/2023 21:12

The sort of people who would be happy to see Suella Braverman as PM.

So what.

You vote for your idiots.
Well vote for ours.

Left wingers don’t really like democracy - and start talking about re-education. They sound more like Nazis than the right wingers. That’s the paradox i don’t get.

Agreed

If that's what they believe then they are incredibly ignorant of the subject and really shouldn't be airing their thoughts at all, let alone in public.

If they don't air their thoughts, how will they ever learn the truth? This is why Brexit happened because people are too scared to say what they're thinking out loud in case they're labelled as ignorant. As a result no one can put correct information out and misinformation just festers as they chat with like minded people.
That's why the Labour Party is shocked that it keeps losing. Because it doesn't listen to concerns of sections of the electorate. It calls them bigots and shuts them down, instead of listening and explaining or addressing their worries.

We have a Right Wing Prime Minister at the moment that no one elected!

You will note, although your comprehension is obviously limited, that
I wrote far right.

Diverging · 11/02/2023 21:17

And I don’t think you have to be right wing to worry about that. I’m not, I’m definitely on the left. But that is a major worry.

They value life differently.

CheesenCrackersmm · 11/02/2023 21:18

Slightly off topic but I have often read about groups of young and middle aged men being housed in hotels. Are there any hotels full of women and pensioners?

Westpoint · 11/02/2023 21:18

ilovesooty · 11/02/2023 21:05

Oh dear.

Oh dear what?

Care to elaborate? Are you suggesting we have, or have ever had, a far right Tory leader?

Serious about what?

ilovesooty · 11/02/2023 21:19

I find the mindset of someone who can endorse Braverman as a potential leader of the country very disturbing indeed.

feellikeanalien · 11/02/2023 21:04

So as a result of one nasty incident you think that the whole UK is becoming more right wing.

There's been a 400% increase in the number of hate crimes recorded since 2010. Race hate alone increased by 156% with 71% of all hate related crime recorded in 2021 falling into the race category. But no, the UK is definitely not shifting to the right 🙄

But you can't help but see the irony right?
One was elected by his party & then rejected by the Electorate, no one has given us the opportunity to vote for this one or not!

Diverging · 11/02/2023 21:23

They value life differently.

With respect that’s a trite phrase, doesn’t mean anything and is irrelevant.

They often come from cultures that have disgraceful medieval attitudes to women, girls and LGBT people. Those attitudes and the behaviours that seem to go with them have no place in our country. We have no idea what we are letting in, in that regard.

ilovesooty · 11/02/2023 21:24

The wider electorate didn't vote for Truss but the right wing of the Tory membership did.

There is no irony here.

Mr Sunak is not, by any definition, far right.

Please read what I write.

QueueEtwo · 11/02/2023 21:26

OP the Country has definitely moved to the Right, fuelled by Brexit & the Tory party & furrled by their rhetoric!

You only have to see the vicious responses on this thread to see the way it's going!

LakieLady · 11/02/2023 21:26

Cnidarian · 11/02/2023 20:56

Eh?!! There's been a right wing government in power for 12 years, most often with a pretty decent majority.

YANBU, the news reports have identified the protests in Liverpool as having been organised by a number of far right groups. No place for that sort of thing, awful.

It's very alarming. I really hope we're not heading for a period like the 70s, where the National Front had a massive march through a very ethnically mixed area of South London.

I think Brexit created a climate where racism and xenophobia are less unacceptable than they were 10 or 15 years ago.

ilovesooty · 11/02/2023 21:27

Sunak is happy to appoint far right members of his party to positions of power, even if they've broken the ministerial code.

Soapyspuds · 11/02/2023 21:27

The far left and far right are concerning in equal measure.

ACynicalDad · 11/02/2023 21:29

I think lots it’s getting more polarised then one side can’t recognise the country they live in Enoch makes it even worse. I’m worried how close Corbyn came to power. I’m worried that Sturgeon could pass her crazy legislation - please it was blocked…

MarshaBradyo · 11/02/2023 21:30

I don’t think so given the polls atm

However it may be an indication of what is on the horizon as things change globally

Please point out one "viscious" response.

If there are any just report them.

BTW. "viscous" does not mean "disagrees with you".

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/02/2023 21:31

@PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog, the rise in antisemitism is another indicator of the shift to the right that I find so disturbing. No group should live in fear of hatefilled individuals or mobs. Thanks
