Happy meals should be plain

AIBU to think happy meals should not come with onions, mustard and pickle as standard? Whose kid is eating these? I've taken many a kid to mcd's and they always ask for it plain, sometimes with ketchup. I can't fathom why they don't make them plain with the option to add the extras. AIBU to think kids meals should be plain to avoid mistakes and waste when I have to take it back EVERY. FUCKING. TIME.

(Light hearted of course but I don't get it)

No because you can customise to make them so! I used to like all the gherkin and onion stuff when I was little anyway.

They should bring back the proper toys though, they used to be sooo much better.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 01/02/2023 21:23

They've always been like that haven't they?

HoldingTheDoor · 01/02/2023 21:23

If you're ordering via the self service kiosks there's an option to make the cheeseburger plain without having to remove each item.

I'm with you on the mustard and pickle but I couldn't get enough onions as a kid, and still can't, but I'm sure there are kids out there who like gherkins and mustard.

Yeah but why? Lol

The gherkins were DS's favourite bit when he was small. He would have cried if he didn't get one I think!
Plus how are children ever meant to try/ learn to like gherkins/mustard etc if they are only ever given plain food?

I say that as the mum of 1 who eats anything at all, and one who is super fussy.

Skinnermarink · 01/02/2023 21:25

I used to think the onions were little bits of rice 🤣

who had a McDonald’s birthday party? They were the best.

Hotcrossbunnowplease · 01/02/2023 21:25

My kids eat it all

Jimboscott0115 · 01/02/2023 21:26

I've never known a kid have them plain, though the gherkins often come off which suits me just fine as I get more.

They're just hamburgers and making all of them plain to suit picky eaters would just be silly.

LBOCS2 · 01/02/2023 21:26

My youngest loves the gherkin and sauces, she's got no problem with them at all, neither did her big brother.

The middle one is so picky she doesn't eat burgers 🤷🏼‍♀️

R0ckets · 01/02/2023 21:26

Mcdonalds is probably the easiest bloody place on the planet to customise your order. It could not be more simple if it tried. If your child is fussy then just remove the parts they don't like and that's that. The rest of us will happily still have a burger with those parts on as believe it or not some kids like them.

chipsandpeas · 01/02/2023 21:26

yukkamumma · 01/02/2023 21:24

Yeah but why? Lol

because its the same cheeseburgers/hamburgers they sell - they dont make seperate ones just for happy meals
if you want it plain, ask for it, then you get a fresh one made

HoldingTheDoor · 01/02/2023 21:26

90% of parties were McDonalds' parties when I was a kid in the '90s. I loved them. Getting to be the chosen one and visit the kitchen seemed like such a treat.

SeasonFinale · 01/02/2023 21:28

Not only would my kids eat it all mine would thankfully take my nasty green slimes pickle from mine too!

Thatshipsailed · 01/02/2023 21:30

My child likes it all apart from gherkins. Not all children only eat extremely plain food!

WestBridgewater · 01/02/2023 21:31

Have they tried one recently, they might like it as they get older 🍔🍟

itsnote · 01/02/2023 21:31

My kids like it. Why can't you just order yours plain? It's so easy, the option is right there on the screen

Im familiar with, and use the system. They get it wrong more often than not!

Some kids like tasty food with seasoning and salad options. I think it’s a shame that so many kids options are just utterly tasteless and ‘plain.’ If your child doesn’t like anything you can just say ‘plain please’ and they’ll make it plain for you.

turrrniiipz · 01/02/2023 21:33

It's very easy to order them plain, some kids like the extra bits

ChrisPPancake · 01/02/2023 21:33

YABU.

yukkamumma · 01/02/2023 21:33

I'm surprised so many kids are so adventurous, good on them! 🙂

Kanaloa · 01/02/2023 21:34

Although what annoys me is that for some reason there are no veggie options in the kids’ meals. Why isn’t there a little McPlant for Happy Meals? To be fair the real McPlant is so tiny they couldn’t make a smaller one for kids!

R0ckets · 01/02/2023 21:35

I find it hard to believe that most of the time they get it wrong to be honest, literally never been an issue with any customised order I've ever place. They are also very good with regards to no buns etc for gluten free/allergies so a plain hamburger doesn't seem like much of a challenge. Are you sure you're actually selecting it properly, if so surely a quick check at the counter when collecting it isn't that taxing?

MaoamAddict · 01/02/2023 21:36

My DC have all the condiments on the burgers & request the same when we do burgers at home

MaverickGooseGoose · 01/02/2023 21:37

My kids get double extra pickles. Why should it all be plain?
