Happy meals should be plain

AIBU to think happy meals should not come with onions, mustard and pickle as standard? Whose kid is eating these? I've taken many a kid to mcd's and they always ask for it plain, sometimes with ketchup. I can't fathom why they don't make them plain with the option to add the extras. AIBU to think kids meals should be plain to avoid mistakes and waste when I have to take it back EVERY. FUCKING. TIME.

(Light hearted of course but I don't get it)

I'm not, I've loads of nieces and take dcs friends all the time, consensus is usually plain!

Yeah you're now surely pulling our legs? I absolutely refuse to believe all of the children prefer just a bun and maybe a bit of sauce.

It’s not adventurous for other kids to like food that your kids don’t eat @yukkamumma

I actually work in dietetics and kids become averse to foods at a young age and gradually build their palette over time. Maybe i see more kids with food issues than the average person too.

If they'd not been served with gerkhin then I would not have benefited from extra servings! It's about me, not your children 😂

Nope, lol, not pulling your leg. It's more the fact that onions, mustard and gherkins are all quite strong flavours and not ones I'd deem attractive. From this I stand fully corrected, I couldn't understand it, hence why I asked the question Smile

My two loved all the condiments and wouldn't have been impressed with a plain burger. I hate the fact kids menus are usually beige and boring.

I used to think the onions were little bits of rice 🤣

who had a McDonald’s birthday party? They were the best.

Wait … that’s not rice ??! 😂

The birthday parties were the best. Such a treat. Our local McDonalds had plastic toadstools for kids to sit on !

I'm not fussed for them either, maybe if it was a big slice of beef tomato I'd have pressed the issue more Wink

I ordered patty and bun only for years as a kid (ex-fussy eater). I can confirm that a) I was very unusual / weird for doing so and b) McDs taste of nothing at all without all the other stuff.

Girlgift97 · 01/02/2023 22:04

@yukkamumma can I have your gherkin also?

Florenz · 01/02/2023 22:04

Happy Meals should be banned as should any junk food specifically aimed at children.

Seasidemumma77 · 01/02/2023 22:05

My 4dc insist on extra gherkins

BashfulClam · 01/02/2023 22:06

All the kids I know including my niece and nephew like all the gubbins. I tried it plain once… it’s not nice. DH always orders his plain and won’t even have cheese on it (cheese improves everything 🤷🏻‍♀️). Also they never get his plain order wrong at any of the ones we’ve visited so it sounds like user error. Even his quarter pounder with cheese without cheese comes plain.

BooksAndHooks · 01/02/2023 22:06

Mine have extra gherkins.

You must know some very unadventurous and fussy children. These flavours really aren't strong, no stronger than ketchup and onions on a burger is as normal as including the bun.

I'm genuinely amazed almost all the kids you know just prefer a plain burger.

R0ckets · 01/02/2023 21:35

Im familiar with, and use the system. They get it wrong more often than not!

I find it hard to believe that most of the time they get it wrong to be honest, literally never been an issue with any customised order I've ever place. They are also very good with regards to no buns etc for gluten free/allergies so a plain hamburger doesn't seem like much of a challenge. Are you sure you're actually selecting it properly, if so surely a quick check at the counter when collecting it isn't that taxing?

I'm not sure why you'd think I'd make it up 🤷🏼‍♀️

👏👏 as someone who apparently works in dietetics I’m surprised the OP is a regular at the Golden Arches…

Whaaat
YABU
On the rare occasions my mum worked weekends she would get me a happy meal. The pickles and onions were the best bit!
But honestly it's a nonissue anyway because you can easily order it plain.

Panda89 · 01/02/2023 22:10

You can get EXTRA gherkins?! DD will be thrilled! This is revolutionary!

yukkamumma · 01/02/2023 22:11

gogohmm · 01/02/2023 21:45

In fact the only time I ever order a plain cheeseburger is when I do the changeover of ddog to exh he always asks me to get ddog one and ddog will spit out the gherkin and each tiny bit of onion

So your dog agrees with me at least lol

Youngest here and the 22 children from his class had a mcd birthday in 2019, all but one wanted the works. So I am guessing a lot of kids want the works. Mind you most wanted water as a drink so swings and roundabouts.

Primulas · 01/02/2023 22:11

[possibly outing] DS(5) customises his to add extra lettuce!

I'll rescue your dog and we will live in harmony of me eating his onion and gherkin

It's very easy to order a plain burger if you want to.

Why the assumption that children only want plain food?
