Happy meals should be plain

AIBU to think happy meals should not come with onions, mustard and pickle as standard? Whose kid is eating these? I've taken many a kid to mcd's and they always ask for it plain, sometimes with ketchup. I can't fathom why they don't make them plain with the option to add the extras. AIBU to think kids meals should be plain to avoid mistakes and waste when I have to take it back EVERY. FUCKING. TIME.

(Light hearted of course but I don't get it)

When he's not having Chicken nuggets, ds has a plain Hamburger. We usually order on the touchscreen and there are options on the main screen for plain Hamburger and plain Cheesburger which we just press and get one without any issue. If you are constantly having to take the meal back because you get the wrong thing that seems to be more of a staff issue.

WelshNerd · 01/02/2023 21:37

You're totally right. If you put this in a political manifesto I would vote for it. Extra points if it's plain but with gherkins on the side for me to eat.

Some kids like tasty food with seasoning and salad options. I think it’s a shame that so many kids options are just utterly tasteless and ‘plain.’ If your child doesn’t like anything you can just say ‘plain please’ and they’ll make it plain for you.

Yup, this.
Over 25 years or so of buying McDs for a big variety of dc, (my dc's parties, rocking up with various friends, and taking various youth groups for one reason or another) the child that wants something plain - that tastes nothing like McDs - is the one that has been the odd one out.

listsandbudgets · 01/02/2023 21:38

Why??

DS would be gutted if all the bits were missing.. dont judge the tastes of all children by your own

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 01/02/2023 21:39

Yeah but why? Lol

Because a dry burger on a bun is boring - even when you're five?

I always loved the sauces and the onions!

Pinkflipflop85 · 01/02/2023 21:39

You just ask for a plain cheeseburger happy meal. It's not that hard!

Soubriquet · 01/02/2023 21:39

My ds loves the gherkins. He pinches mine which I’m more than happy to hand over as I don’t like them

yukkamumma · 01/02/2023 21:33

I'm surprised so many kids are so adventurous, good on them! 🙂

Not really sure it’s adventurous to eat burger sauces and onion, pretty standard really. Don’t know any kids who don’t.

gogohmm · 01/02/2023 21:41

It's the standard burger, they aren't just for kids. Mine ate the whole burger from around 1 year old, they like gherkins

Kanaloa · 01/02/2023 21:42

This thread reminded me of the video a friend sent me on social media a while ago of a little boy in the back of the car showing his mum his burger and complaining ‘they didn’t give me no salad!’ So cute. My kids would definitely complain if they didn’t get the fixings! DD even tries to ask if other people don’t like the pickles so she can help them out! 😂

toodlesofoodles · 01/02/2023 21:43

Onions and a slice of gherkin are not adventurous!

2 of my 3 kids will eat them (one is ASD and has lots of food aversions so he has his plain) they are all under 10

It is annoying when they get it wrong though, I'm with you there 100% and it happens a lot

gogohmm · 01/02/2023 21:45

In fact the only time I ever order a plain cheeseburger is when I do the changeover of ddog to exh he always asks me to get ddog one and ddog will spit out the gherkin and each tiny bit of onion

SarahAndQuack · 01/02/2023 21:46

Small children generally like at least one of 1) choosing between different little pots of things and 2) pickles/anything tangy.

I do get that if you're taking your kid to McDonalds you were not expecting flavour, but I bet you could just ask them to leave it off?

Getamoveon36 · 01/02/2023 21:47

It’s not adventurous for other kids to like food that your kids don’t eat @yukkamumma

MillenialAvocado · 01/02/2023 21:47

DS is fussy and will only eat the fish fingers happy meal

wildlifeobserver1 · 01/02/2023 21:50

YABU to expect all other children to eat plain food just because yours do.

Thatshipsailed · 01/02/2023 21:51

You know onions are toxic to dogs @gogohmm

Panda89 · 01/02/2023 21:52

DD (6) loves the gherkins, onions and sauce! For her birthday we got the kids McDonald's and when the asked for burgers I just got them as they come, one of the boys was not happy with the gherkins etc but it didn't cross my mind to get them plain nor did they ask.

PartyTips · 01/02/2023 21:52

McDonalds is “adventurous” now? This makes me feel like I’ve thoroughly cultured my DS…

Catcharolo · 01/02/2023 21:53

Nah. I don’t think most kids need or want food that plain. My 4 wouldnt anyway, and their friends have never picked out the onion etc. I wouldn’t say a little burger with a couple of gherkins
and a few onions is unsuitable for your average child!

Hoowhoowho · 01/02/2023 21:54

I am the ultimate customiser, one of mine has a plain bun and the other a bun with cucumber. I think I’ve had an error once. Where are you going that they get it wrong all the time?

Adventurous? It’s onion.

LeapingCat · 01/02/2023 21:56

My youngest loves all the extras, she’d be gutted with a plain burger. My oldest wanted completely plain when he was her age, he’s a very adventurous eater now. I don’t think a plain happy meal will stop a child developing a love of mustard.

I'm not, I've loads of nieces and take dcs friends all the time, consensus is usually plain!

I ate those as a kid. A plain burger would be boring and a bit gross... you can remove them if you ask but who wants just patty and bun?
