CF and the City

I live in NYC.

A couple of months ago, an old friend got in touch with me for the first time in about a year and expressed that she wanted to come to the US on holiday. I said cool, I'll give you my recommendations for NYC.

Just now, she's said to me "I'm arriving on March 10th and heading to New Orleans on the 17th. Is it still okay for me to stay with you?"

Needless to say, she never even asked. I'm quite breathtaken by the cheek. Last time I saw this girl was 6 years ago, when she....invited herself to stay (different city).

I'm not down to save this girl $2,000 in hotel and convenience bills. But how should I phrase my reply? Hold me back....

Never dull to get an update. Really poor to just ignore you, but at least you know now.

Thank you for keeping us in the loop. Being seen as a free hotel is a pain - it used to happen to us too. Wonder what your ‘friend’ would say if you contacted her and suggested a meet up for a coffee? !!

Definitely sounds like she was after free accomodation meals and tourist guide in NYC rather than wanting to see you. If was about NYC.

When you made it clear there was no offer for free hotel & services at your flat, she couldn't even be bothered to reply.

I'd have to email saying that it's a shame she hasn't been in touch as you have some lovely gifts for her and you had arranged some complementary tickets for various shows/top restaurants!

Would be interesting to see if she then gets in touch!

Aww I'm sorry, that's a bit rubbish and quite hurtful.

On the plus side you know exactly where you stand and have free time to concentrate on the lovely people in your life, of chich im sure you have loads.

Well you called it right! Thank your past self for not putting your present self in the position of having to put her up. Your far better off without her in your life

Oh well, not surprised there. I used to have visits all the time when I moved to a touristic area. It took me about a year to identify who wanted to see us and who wanted free accommodation.

Interestingly, some of those who I thought wanted free accommodation because they didn’t know us that well were very considerate and generous guests. Some of those we knew well… proper entitled people using us a hotel and expecting us to use our annual leave to take them in daily tours so… you never know.

I wonder if she roped some other poor bugger into letting her stay.
