Teacher vaping in car

I collected my child earlier from school as they had a medical appointment and as I walked back to the car I noticed my child’s piano teacher vaping in her car. There was no one else about but would this bother you?

Mumsnet never fails to surprise me 😂

Nor me. Now I could understand your concern if you had seen the teacher snorting coke or shooting up heroine, but vaping in the car! You do realise they are human beings themselves?

Nimo12 · 25/01/2023 22:17

Absolutely none of your business! Why would it bother anyone?!

You’d have had a field day with my DC primary school teacher. I held the door open for someone in a nightclub toilet and it was only Miss Smith. I said ‘OMG Miss Smith’ and she said ‘OMG Laura’s Mum’ and we had a right giggle and a wee dance. Pissed as anything we both were.

😂
That reminds me of the time a friend asked me to go to see Magic Mike in the theatre with her. Suddenly she ducked down in her chair whispering to me, "OMG DC's teacher is in front of us!" She wanted to leave she was so mortified that the teacher might see her there, until I reminded her that said teacher had also obviously paid for a ticket and was there to watch the same dirty movie as us.

When I was at school, the music teacher had sex with the receptionist. Never mind that they were married, it was a complete disgrace.

Our art teacher (unmarried) came in one Monday morning with a love bite on her neck, she had tried to cover it with a casually draped scarf but we spotted it.

It’s illegal to smoke on school premises. The school employee should be sacked.

Only in Wales as far as I am aware and they only passed that law in 2021.

Might be against school policy but it is not illegal elsewhere in the UK provided it is not in an enclosed space.

KarmaStar · 25/01/2023 22:24

Ffs don't be so idiotic.

My old history teacher used to smoke his way through our lessons. Late 70's and was completely normal at the time.

I can remember when I was at secondary school if you had to take a message to the staff room, the air was filled with cigarette smoke, so thick it looked like fog!

Just scrolling on the page on Welsh law on this

is it a criminal offence or a civil offence?

Get a grip, you enormous busybody

I just thought it sets a bad example

😂😂😂😂 they were vaping not downing shots. I'm sure several of the students parents smoke or vape so they see it regularly, they're not going to combust. What you going to do next? Ban pregnant teachers incase it sets a 'bad example' of having unprotected sex? Decree teachers can't bring unhealthy foods for their lunches?

They're adults and can do what they want within the limits of the law. Trust me, the shit they put up with, they don't get paid enough to be held to unimpeachable angelic standards above the normal mere mortals.

Erm it's not illegal so why in earth is it your business??!

I personally think teachers should be shot on sight for doing anything other than living saintly lives at all times. In fact, YABU for not having smashed the window and dragged them out of the car yourself!

Abraxan · 25/01/2023 22:34

We aren't permitted to smoke or vape on school grounds.

Is the piano teacher employed as a teacher by the school, or are they someone who comes in from an external business or agency?

I'd be surprised to see it in school grounds but I wouldn't 'do' anything about it.

Won't anyone think of the children 😭😭😭

😂😂😂

TrashyPanda · 25/01/2023 22:36

Yes.

how dare she use a car.
what a bad example to the children.
doesn’t she care about the planet?
sje should walk, even if she lives 20 miles away.

elevenplusdilemma · 25/01/2023 22:38

@WineDup I pass any comment on the teacher, I just answered the question posed by a previous poster as to whether vaping was a serious as smoking.
I couldn't give two hoots about what a teacher does in their private space; if they're daft enough to choose to smoke or vape, that's entirely their prerogative.

They wouldn't be a school employee as a piano teacher. HTH.

SierraZoe · 25/01/2023 22:39

I don’t think I’d bat an eyelid to be honest. As long as they’re a good piano teacher!

Witlof · 25/01/2023 22:40

I wonder if this "parent" eats vegan, lives trash free, doesn't smoke and doesn't drink. No sugar no fat. No palm oil. Volunteers and saves some turtles. No yelling and no bad words in the house. No tv!! Where do you buy your clothes? If it's not sustainable omg I hope your child has bad eyes he might see a bad example.

ConcordeOoter · 25/01/2023 22:41

YABU, leave her alone.

Frankly if I had to spend all day doing that job it'd be a bottle of bloody Vodka not a vape thingy.

Sheesh.

beatricebuck · 25/01/2023 22:45

I'm always bemused by some posts on here about teachers in the UK.
I teach in Ireland.
If a parent dared to suggest that school strikes/ closures etc was putting them out because of childcare issues, it wouldn't be long until they were told in no uncertain terms that school is not a childcare facility and essentially to jog on.

Yet on here, it's quite a common thread to read about peoples perceived right to have access to teachers after school
Hours eg emails/ texts and calls as well
as opinions/ questions about Teachers sick leave / absences etc. it's all just strange to me. And frankly , nobody's business bar the teacher and school management.

That's absolutely alien to my experience.

My Principal simply would not tolerate any parental interference unless it pertains to an in school issue regarding their child.

We are employed to teach and have a duty of care to the children within specific hours .
We love it but it's a job at the end of the day !

mathanxiety · 25/01/2023 22:45

When I was in school a huge cloud of smoke gushed out into the corridor whenever the staff room door opened.

Shrug...
