Teacher vaping in car

I collected my child earlier from school as they had a medical appointment and as I walked back to the car I noticed my child’s piano teacher vaping in her car. There was no one else about but would this bother you?

I hope no one catches a teacher reading a book, what is the world coming too?

Having a child myself not sure why they dont have a bar in the staffroom, they deserve one 🙂

It used to be common to have Friday 3.30 drinks in the Staffroom.

No. Someone being bothered about it night though, as I have a healthy concern for people suffering from psychosis.

toptail22 · 25/01/2023 23:20

Absolutely not. If they were sitting jagging up heroin yes by vaping no.

of course teachers are allowed a social life and it’s legal but it was during the school day and on school premises so I didn’t think it was appropriate

Fortunately society disregards this when it comes to setting bounds on acceptable behaviour.

Oh flip. Outed by EtonMessy.

OK when I was a young teacher I smoked in the staff room, and what is more on Friday lunchtimes we used to go to the pub over the road.

And we used to pass packets of polos to each other in assembly. A three polo assembly was a good assembly.

On Friday mornings the school fax machine was hot sending lunchtime orders to the pub so it was ready when we arrived!

toptail22 · 25/01/2023 23:23

I worked in a school and at break times would vape in my car, on school grounds. No biggy.

Wetblanket78 · 25/01/2023 23:23

Well where else is she ment to do it? Won't be allowed to in school or in the staffroom. She's not doing it in the playground when children are out there wafting it in they're face's.

When I was at high school the married drama teacher had sex with a history teacher on a school residential trip and ended up getting a divorce and marrying her.

Your head would explode op!!

In the 60s, the biolgy teacher was going out with the Head Girl, after she left and qualified as a teacher she came back to teach in the same school as Mrs Bio Teacher. We teased her mercilessly, she'd taken the job to keep an eye on him! Sadly I read a couple of years ago that he'd died, they'd been married over 50 years.

saraclara · 25/01/2023 23:28

When smoking was banned from my school grounds, half a dozen TAs spent their break smoking just outside the school gates. It was a great look Confused

GoAgainstNicki · 25/01/2023 23:29

It’s not as if she was standing outside of the school gates vaping once the kids had finished school.

You said you picked your child up from school as they had an appointment (I’m assuming the rest of the kids were in classes at this time) so she hasn’t done anything wrong. Just having a smoke break inside her car when the kids are inside. What’s wrong with that?

Plus how can it set a bad example if no one has actually seen her seeing as all the kids are inside having lessons??

BigPurpleArm · 25/01/2023 23:33

Be right back, Just nipping for a fag break

neighboursmustliveon · 25/01/2023 23:34

If it's a piano teacher then is she an employee of the school? In our schools many of the specific instrument teachers are contractors of some kind. I suggest this as she won't have the same expectations placed on her.

Was the car in a school car park or parked outside?

Our staff are not meant to smoke or vape in their car while on school grounds (some do though) and are meant to leave the grounds to do it.

I think given it was in the middle of the school day then it's not too bad. I think it would be worse if she was out there while the children were all leaving.

Well assuming she isn't a nun or anything can't see the problem.

I worked in a Convent school in the 70s, not in the UK and those Nuns were an eye opener, a couple smoked heavily, asked me to get cheap cigarettes for her from the Mess which I did, until I heard her refer to the IRA a 'the boys back home'.

CreaturesAreSleeping · 25/01/2023 23:36

Sounds like you simply don't like this particular teacher and are looking for a way to cause problems for her 😡

Pinkypie86 · 25/01/2023 23:40

I often wonder how many times people can say stupid things and get such a response!
Then I remember this is Mumsnet.

We used to have teachers sit in the pub at lunch ( it was across from the school ) drink 4 pints and a whisky chaser, then come back to teach us.

Closetbeanmuncher · 25/01/2023 23:41

It’s a vape not a crackpipe 🤦‍♀️

I would report to head teacher. Discusting

If it was in his car I really don’t see the problem.

Florenz · 25/01/2023 23:58

Once when I went to the McDonalds drive-thru my DS looked through the hatch and spotted one of his teachers at the counter inside ordering a McChicken Sandwich meal with a full fat coke. I was incandescent with rage. Teachers are supposed to set a good example for their pupils.

Barbrawalters · 25/01/2023 23:59

emotionalmotionsicknesss · 25/01/2023 20:38

I personally think teachers should be shot on sight for doing anything other than living saintly lives at all times. In fact, YABU for not having smashed the window and dragged them out of the car yourself!

Oh god me too! How dare they not be perfect

Meowmama · 25/01/2023 23:59

Unless she was smoking speed I'd probably just feel bad for her having to deal with uptight parents givin her stinkeye

TheOrigRights · 26/01/2023 00:02

I'm pretty sure the school rules state staff should not smoke cigarettes or vape on the school grounds.

saraclara · 26/01/2023 00:26

She's a piano teacher. That means she's a peri and not employed by the school. Which is probably why she's in her car during lesson time. Probably just arrived or is just about to leave to go to her next school.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/01/2023 00:34

Florenz · 25/01/2023 20:49

I can remember teachers cadging fags from pupils, but they always smoked in the staff room, not in the unofficial smoking area where pupils smoked at break.

Teachers didn’t do that at my school to my knowledge. But as for the rest, yes. Smoking was in the staff room for teachers, in one of the loos downstairs or beside the school field for the kids. Unfathomable these days that teachers would show a blind eye to 12 plus year olds smoking.

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/01/2023 03:18

Oh definitely report..

Teachers are meant to put themselves away in their little lockers after each class and they actually power down after school hours to go on charge, and are switched on by the caretaker every morning.

If you see one outside the classroom or school premises, it has escaped and gone rogue, attempting to actually live a life of its own which should not be permitted under ANY circumstances.

I have heard of them also having holidays, going to parties, drinking alcohol, smoking real cigarettes, and even... having children of their own!

This must be stamped out NOW!
