I’m just blown away by her acting, why hasn’t she got more recognition?
Addicted to Happy valley, the writing and acting is superb

What's your aibu?

blankittyblank · 18/01/2023 10:38

She's had loads of recognition! From Wikipedia;

Her combined acting credits have earned Lancashire a number of awards and nominations over a career spanning four decades, including two British Academy Television Award wins out of five nominations. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to drama.

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2023 10:39

It’s that sleb name as a thread title thing again when I think something has happened to them.

PAFMO · 18/01/2023 10:39

I think she's universally recognised as one of Britain's best actresses tbf.

Karwomannghia · 18/01/2023 10:41

So good, just finished s2. Unrecognisable from Raquel!

Throwncrumbs · 18/01/2023 10:42

She’s a really good actress, but she not one of those in your face look at me types who are always in the news coming out of places like awards ceremonies, etc, where you get a free ticket to attend, get drunk and tell everyone what designer clothes she’s wearing. Which makes her even more likeable imo.

TarasHarp55 · 18/01/2023 10:42

According to some that 10 minute scene in the cafe with her sister was the best ever in British drama. I have to agree.

MissBattleaxe · 18/01/2023 10:42

I think she's better than Olivia Colman. Colman is good, but you still know it's Olivia Colman, in the same way that you always know it's Helena Bonham Carter, no matter who she plays.

Whereas with Sarah Lancashire you completely forget it's her and not a Yorkshire police sergeant called Catherine. She is a chameleon.

Greatly · 18/01/2023 10:43

I think she has an MBE for services to acting tbf

MissBattleaxe · 18/01/2023 10:45

I saw a great Tweet saying something about how the Lord of The Rings spin off drama was around 38 million an episode but all you need is a cafe, two mobile phones and two phenomenal actresses.

I agree, I found the Crown less enjoyable with them in, they’re both fantastic actresses but I couldn’t get over that HBC is maybe a decade older than OC so it made it less believable.

ZittiEBuoni · 18/01/2023 10:47

She is amazing. DH came into the room towards the end of that cafe scene and asked me what I was finding so gripping but it was impossible to explain. It just was!

SnowyOwl1 · 18/01/2023 10:47

Just glad she hasn't died, you really shouldn't start a thread with just someone's name!!

WimbyAce · 18/01/2023 10:48

She is super isn't she? Absolutely owns that role. I was thinking similar, you don't hear a lot about her.

TheMarzipanDildo · 18/01/2023 10:49

Oh she’s so good!

Hobbesmanc · 18/01/2023 10:50

Watch Julia. It's an American show about US cookery legend Julia Child. She's fabulous in it. It's been a big hit in the states and there's a second series. I think she's heading to character actress super stardom.

BestIsWest · 18/01/2023 10:50

I agree. Julia Child and Catherine Cawood couldn’t be more different roles but she made them both so believable.
Siobhan Finneran is superb too.

TheDogsMother · 18/01/2023 10:51

She's just played Julia Childs on HBO. Last played by Meryl Streep in the movie Julie and Julia. I'd love to see it.

Absolutely. Did you see her in the darama about Julia Child? Couldn't be a more different role than Happy Valley. She really is a stonking actress. We enjoyed Rose and Maloney but it never seems to be repeated. Incidentally with another underrated actor, Phil Davis.

Coxspurplepippin · 18/01/2023 10:51

Grin X post - it was excellent

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/01/2023 10:54

She gets loads of recognition! Regarded by many as one of the UK's best small screen actors.

Kazzyhoward · 18/01/2023 10:55

She's had plenty of recognition as mentioned by others.

What I like about her (and probably why people don't know more about her) is that she's not always in the media, not all over Twitter, etc., and by & large keeps herself to herself with no scandal, no attention seeking appearances in reality TV shows or daytime TV etc.

Thewinterofillness · 18/01/2023 10:57

I think that must be it, that she stays out of the limelight, keeps herself low profile, I literally know nothing much about her, as you often do about so many other actors/actresses. Just fantastic acting.

I think both can play any role they want and I believe them no matter what they play, brilliant

Separate to that I don't assume someone has died just because their name is a thread

luckylavender · 18/01/2023 10:58

Why is this an AIBU? Also she has loads of credit.
