I’m just blown away by her acting, why hasn’t she got more recognition?
Addicted to Happy valley, the writing and acting is superb

I absolutely love her, she is superb. Even her walk in HV is in character. Just a total "don't fuck with me" walk. My work is in Calderdale and I keep shouting stuff like "holy shit that's Tescos in Brighouse!"

I do this too, last week James Norton leapt out of the dock, ran out of the old Magistates Court in Le Mans Crescent Bolton, next he ran up the side of a totally different building in Bolton, did his quick change in the Newsagents and emerged, fully lycraed, in Leeds! Bolton Council must make a fortune from filming in Le Mans Crescent, it's on so often.

It’s funny as we’re watching Happy Valley at TV pace but also Last Tango during week

She’s so good in both but love her in Last Tango she gets the part spot on. Some of the lines with her mum are brilliant

I struggle with Nicola Walker though, she seems to be cast as someone men love but I find her so painful and self absorbed. And John, my word what an idiot.

She's a good actress but actresses around that age I think Gina McKee is more believable, I think SL acts in a similar way in all her roles, perhaps a bit too dramatic and always delivers her lines with a shocked look about her!

Goldpaw · 30/01/2023 19:13

I couldn't get on with Last Tango, the two main older characters irritated me beyond watchability unfortunately.

I found it so dull.

@Hobbesmanc I completely agree about her in Julia. Astonishingly good. She portrayed Julia Child perfectly, and her voice was spot on!

I found it so dull.

I’m kind of annoyance watching it.

But only for SL

I LOVE Gina McKee (well - in anything except the re-make of The Forsyte Saga. Totally miscast as Irene)

The casting of SL and SF as sisters in Happy Valley is brilliant. You can really believe they could be sisters.

Just an aside about the boy who plays Ryan, I think it's inspired to wait for him to grow up to play the same part. I couldn't believe it was him. Still hasn't got total control of his face though, bless him 😁

Line of duty??? Ryan Pilkington... 13 when lod started, reprised in S5

No, Happy Valley. Ryan.

Crumpetdisappointment · 30/01/2023 19:51

she is one year and one day older than me, a very similar birthday!
i am very smug about this
raquel has done so well!
she was the first actress to sign up to itv "Golden Handcuffs" but left the contract early. i remember at the time feeling proud of her achievement.
she is just fantastic as Catherine Cawood

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/01/2023 19:52

Gina McKee is a good actress but she always does that 'staring off into the middle distance with a melancholic look on her face' style of acting.

Rollin · 07/02/2023 14:18

She's bloody fab. That finale! She acted her socks off, her and Siobhan whatsherface.
