Things that shouldn't be allowed....

Following on from the petrol price thread (and in true Victor Meldrew style) what do you think shouldn't be allowed......I'll kick off with the following.

Petrol should be the same price from a retailer no matter where you buy it from

Nothing should ever be double taxed (Petrol again....Fuel Duty and VAT!!!)

All displayed prices for anything should be inclusive of VAT

A Council should not be able to get away with paying for damage caused by potholes by saying 'We are aware and it's due to be fixed'

Electricity and Gas prices should be easy to understand

The same goes for Water (who last bought a cubic metre of water from a shop when they wanted a drink?)

If someone is sentenced to life for murder, this should mean for the rest of their life, not to be released after 10, 15, 20 years etc....

Changing or 'improving' recipies for the worse. Look at what that's done to Twiglets😭

iliketartan · 08/01/2023 21:45

Fireworks shouldn't be allowed to be sold to utter bellends the general public.

Notthetoothfairy · 08/01/2023 21:46

The taxes you mention are already a double tax, as you are using taxed income to pay them. I think there should be one income, one tax (amount all in, no pretending the tax rate is lower by splitting it up into national insurance, long term care, income tax etc) with no further taxes allowed on that income.

You should be able to buy foods/drinks with sugar in if you choose to. Forcing sweeteners on people shouldn’t be allowed.

Ever?

Are you joking, hence the 😱?

Terms of office for TV presenters.

SICK TO DEATH of Ant and Dec, Holly and Phil, Eammon and Ruth ie. all the double acts (and singletons as well) that monopolise TV - shouldn’t be allowed. I don’t watch day time TV, in fact only do Netflix, Prime and iPlayer now because the usual suspects are on everything.

YES! I mean, in extenuating circumstance, maybe (perhaps a civil emergency or a war may derail a manifesto) but just as par for the course? No. It makes a mockery of the system.

Mps lunch should not be subsidised. It's nonsense that they are paying reduced price for premium meals! I mean- look at the menu! Wetherspoons prices and Michelin meals on the back of the taxpayer!

Things that shouldn't be allowed....

That as soon as a girl turns 16 she is fair game for any dirty old man/ groomer.

There should be a staggered age of consent so that older men can’t prey on teenagers who are still in school and it’s perfectly legal.

We had a family friend whose daughter went off with a man in his late 30s as soon as she turned 16.

There was absolutely nothing that social services could do as she wasn’t considered vulnerable and no complaint was being made by her. They suspected she had been groomed (he was a “friend of a friend”) but without any proof there was no way of protecting her unless she made a complaint that the relationship wasn’t consensual.

Yes, ghe amount of times I have grabbed an emergency drink (type 1 diabetic) to then discover it doesn’t actually have any sugar in, even lucozade!

I was moaning about this exact thing the other day. It's like a 90s time warp.

Planning permission for greenfield sites shouldn’t be passed while nearby brownfield sites lie derelict. Money should be spent making towns better places to live, rather than tearing up countryside.

Shops being able to choose how to size women's clothes. The sizes should be standard so I can shop online and know if I'm a 10 or 16. Also, women's jeans must have proper pockets.

Oh yes - and planning permission for massive amounts of new housing should require infrastructure improvements as part of the developments, to a much higher standard than the current paltry (if any) provision.

I feel like a huge amount needs to be updated in Consumer Protection law since so many companies give such utter shit customer service and we all have to just suck it up with no/very little recompense.

Sqqueeeeeeee · 08/01/2023 22:01

Being a secret rugby fan shouldn’t be allowed. Shout it out, we’re the best kind of people!

On a serious note, I think properties should have to be publicly marketed for a certain length of time (i.e. six weeks or three months etc) before they can be viewed or had offers passed before they can be sold to anyone who doesn’t intend to live in the property.
