Things that shouldn't be allowed....

Following on from the petrol price thread (and in true Victor Meldrew style) what do you think shouldn't be allowed......I'll kick off with the following.

Petrol should be the same price from a retailer no matter where you buy it from

Nothing should ever be double taxed (Petrol again....Fuel Duty and VAT!!!)

All displayed prices for anything should be inclusive of VAT

A Council should not be able to get away with paying for damage caused by potholes by saying 'We are aware and it's due to be fixed'

Electricity and Gas prices should be easy to understand

The same goes for Water (who last bought a cubic metre of water from a shop when they wanted a drink?)

If someone is sentenced to life for murder, this should mean for the rest of their life, not to be released after 10, 15, 20 years etc....

Faffing about and getting in the way
Children in pubs or wine bars

Inheritance tax should be banned.
The deceased has already paid tax on their income!

In the vast majority of cases, most of the estate is made up of property that has risen in value through no effort of the deceased & no tax has been paid.

I will moan about Cadbury’s chocolate till the day I die! I remember it melting slowly and lusciously on one’s tongue, being creamy and rich and sweet and really feeling luxurious- the best chocolate! Now it’s waxy/crumbly, doesn’t melt properly, and I could eat a whole bar without feeling satisfied.

same goes for all chocolate to be honest, I have a total chocolate addiction but struggle to find stuff that truly hits the spot.

you can tell I care a lot about it 😂

Tony’s Chocalonely - you can pick some up at Sainsbury’s.

Lovely chocolate, and ethical.

If you have a passport and it is valid on the date you intend to travel back home you should be allowed to use it...none of this 'it's got to have three months/six months etc. left to expiry' nonsense.

I agree. Calling them ten year passports is a misnomer if they are only valid for nine and a half years.

The BBC demanding we pay for a TV license, regardless of whether we actually want to receive BBC channels or not.

Agreed. And I’d add to this the threatening, almost thuggish way they would demand you renew your tv licence. Those awful adverts from the 1980s and 1990s, telling people they were coming after them, if they didn’t renew their license - dictatorship style. I remember being very frightened by these as a child.

Mintakan · 09/01/2023 07:15

Kids in places that are targeted at adults. I’d happily pay extra for child free spaces like cafes, flights, supermarkets

Dogs

Smoking anywhere but your own home

Middle lane motorway drivers should have to resort their test because clearly they don’t have a clue how to drive safely

It seems a lot easier to get married than it does to get divorced......each aspect should be as easy/difficult as the other.....

Restaurants should have to provide a vegetarian and a vegan option, not just use a vegan option to cover both bases. I love cheese and find restaurant vegan food so often stodgy and boring (not saying all vegan food is!).

BCxx · 09/01/2023 07:44

They should still sell these pasta pots, absolutely criminal that they were discontinued 😩

Totally! Been a vegetarian since I was 6 and at times theres not even been one meat-free choice on menus. Now there’s multiple but they are usually both vegan. It’s limiting people further when they’re already limited 🙈

Cats shouldn't be allowed to shit or roam where they please

TheGuv1982 · 09/01/2023 07:51

Cyclists in bus lanes - I rarely use the peasant wagon, but when I do it seems to crawl along stuck behind a cyclist.

Babycakes6 · 09/01/2023 07:51

WizzAir, Ryanair etc shouldn’t be allowed to get away with leaving people stranded away from home.

HRTQueen · 09/01/2023 07:52

Politicians should not be allowed second jobs/consulting roles/sitting on management boards and a cap on earnings from media

to be voted to be a MP is an extremely privileged role one of taken seriously will take up all their time but far too many are on the constant round of self promotion while lining their pockets

divorce is more complex in most situations.

It’s actually pretty easy to get divorced. The difficulty is in the financial
settlement and any child arrangements that must be made.

People who drive without using turn indicators
Pencil skirts
All women’s clothes without pockets
inconsistent sizing for women’s clothes
VAT on period products
Santa Claus/Father Christmas
Poor manners
School sports days
Long waits for CAMHS
Long lists of school sport uniform, especially when many items will never be worn

I agree. How difficult is it to add a slice of cheese to a vegan burger? Or transform a vegan lasagne by adding grated cheese on top?

RampantIvy · 09/01/2023 08:03

Santa Claus/Father Christmas

Why @Ericaequites?

Babycakes6 · 09/01/2023 08:11

Homework
Supermarket shelves still being full of single-use plastic bottles , eg detergents, spray cleaners, laundry wash, shampoos, conditioners.
supply and demand pricing including artificial supply issues
ticket touts/ resellers/price gougers.
tax avoidance

Spot on! Could I just add favouritism/ nepotism to the list. Both at school and workplace!

You should be able to buy foods/drinks with sugar in if you choose to. Forcing sweeteners on people shouldn’t be allowed.

This!!!!

I used to love Lucozade - was a real treat. Apparently my Mum craved it when she was pregnant with me, but never drunk it before or since!

Since they reduced the sugar and replaced it with sweeteners there's a very unpleasant chemical lemon aftertaste - I can't drink it any more. I'm genuinely gutted - I even emailed them in desperation 😅

I don't drink tea or coffee and don't really drink booze either so it was a real treat that I enjoyed. First world problems and all that, I realise!
