Things that shouldn't be allowed....

Following on from the petrol price thread (and in true Victor Meldrew style) what do you think shouldn't be allowed......I'll kick off with the following.

Petrol should be the same price from a retailer no matter where you buy it from

Nothing should ever be double taxed (Petrol again....Fuel Duty and VAT!!!)

All displayed prices for anything should be inclusive of VAT

A Council should not be able to get away with paying for damage caused by potholes by saying 'We are aware and it's due to be fixed'

Electricity and Gas prices should be easy to understand

The same goes for Water (who last bought a cubic metre of water from a shop when they wanted a drink?)

If someone is sentenced to life for murder, this should mean for the rest of their life, not to be released after 10, 15, 20 years etc....

Also keeping prices the same but changing the size of products, so people are getting less for their money without realising.

And retailers who push prices up before black Friday etc. so they can claim it's "on sale" when really it's just the normal price.

secretrugbyfan · 08/01/2023 22:05

All Estate Agents should be regulated to within an inch of their lives...dodgy bunch of sharks, the lot of 'em!!

I think I might be turning into Victor Meldrew…..

Theres a huge problem with Deliveroo/Just Eat etc. drivers in my area. I’m close to a small city centre and they are everywhere. Based on my recent surveys, 90% are driving scooters 🛵 with L plates. Going up pedestrian areas, one way streets, jumping lights, in/out of cycle lanes - they’re an absolute menace and I’ll be complaining to the council. If you drive for a living you should have a full license at the very least and preferably some advanced training. I saw one nearly take someone out last week. I’ve seen how dangerous it is in India with frequent deaths and it’s going to get like that here unless it’s properly regulated.

Huge, fat SUV's in urban environments.

Able-bodied people using cars for short journeys.

Car drivers killing people with cars and getting pathetic sentences.

There's a bit of a theme here

Driving with loose animal (e.g. dog/cat)in the car.

And also plastic grass.

People who have it should be forced to be buried with it and pay for the privilege

OPs who don't understand what they're talking about.

"Petrol should be the same price from a retailer no matter where you buy it from"

So distance from the refinery makes no difference, nor does the rental for the petrol station?

Changing or 'improving' recipies for the worse. Look at what that's done to Twiglets😭

I see your Twiglets and raise you Cadbury's chocolate.

Dogs off leads except in their own gardens or designated fields.

Royal Families.

Topless men except on beaches or at the swimming pool.

New housing estates which don't have a large proportion of one and two bed starter homes.

That as soon as a girl turns 16 she is fair game for any dirty old man/ groomer.

There should be a staggered age of consent so that older men can’t prey on teenagers who are still in school and it’s perfectly legal.

We had a family friend whose daughter went off with a man in his late 30s as soon as she turned 16.

There was absolutely nothing that social services could do as she wasn’t considered vulnerable and no complaint was being made by her. They suspected she had been groomed (he was a “friend of a friend”) but without any proof there was no way of protecting her unless she made a complaint that the relationship wasn’t consensual.

How could this work? When I was 17 I was in a relationship with a 40 year old man. We stayed together for 10 years. We're no longer together and I'm now married to someone else and madly in love with them but that relationship was a wonderful time in my life. I was very happy and wasn't groomed.

Nobody should be allowed to make profit on essential services. Anything that a person needs for the most basic standard of living shouldn't be unattainable because rich people care more about money they don't need.

The BP garage in Grangemouth has always been more expensive even when the BP refinery was on the doorstep!

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 08/01/2023 22:29

XXL Bullies (and associated various crosses).
Middle lane hoggers.
people that drive at 40 in a 60, but then carry on driving at 40 in a 30 limit. Drives me mad.

Apologies for the lack of clarity.....

I meant retailers as in supermarkets, rather than independents. Assuming fuel is a commodity that you buy, just like a tin of beans or a loaf of bread, why should the price differ from the same supermarket? When you go online for a food shop to be delivered and buy a loaf of bread (for example) you pay the same price for that loaf no matter where you are in the country.....why can't petrol be the same? Surely distance from the refinery and delivery costs/rental costs etc. for mass retailers of fuel can be divided equally so everybody pays the same cost?

Conveyancing solicitors that email you on the Tuesday before Christmas asking you to exchange and complete that week, then fucking off the following day without handing over, scuppering any chance of this happening before taking a 2 week holiday over Christmas and New year despite the buyers mortgage offer expiring mid January.

Fuckers.

onepieceoflollipop · 08/01/2023 22:30

Pretend driveways.
either because the council said no to the dropped curb or the home owner didn’t apply. Entire streets round here with everyone parked on paved over front gardens, drivers driving over the pavements (usually at speed)

When you choose to stand for election you are asking people to vote for you as their full time political representative and that is what you should do not do it part time whilst doing another job and being paid for full time hours as an MP plus being paid for the 2nd job. If that means Dr's etc can't keep there licence without some retraining (assuming that they want to go back to there old job) then that should be part of the decision to stand for election.

I was moaning about this exact thing the other day. It's like a 90s time warp.

I Totally Agree
My question is , how is any newcomer ever going to get a chance to break through into Tv presenting if the same old presenters are totally controlling the industry as in they are on every TV show?
Its just Shocking .
