Quite attractive? I'm a 30 year old woman so he is a little out of my usual age range but there's something about him I find really attractive. Maybe it's an attraction due to how clever the man is, I'm not sure. I can't be alone in this?

OP posts:
OnBoardTheHeartOfGold · 31/12/2022 10:49

I'm drawn to intellectuals and clever people too so I'd say yanbu!

Tonty · 31/12/2022 10:58

I can see why you find him attractive although he's not my cup of tea but also drawn to clever, intellectual men.

MyOtherCarIsAHearse · 31/12/2022 14:20

I’d absolutely go there. Listening to him talk is like foreplay.

housemaus · 31/12/2022 14:27

He's a pseudo-intellectual misogynist. I'm not sure what's sexy about that.

CleoandRalf · 31/12/2022 14:27

If you think he is clever than you have bigger problems than just finding him attractive.

Yuk

Some women are thick enough to not understand this, that’s the issue

Chinam · 31/12/2022 14:31

I’ve decided to believe the top few posters are being sarcastic because I can’t quite accept that some women would be thick enough to fall for this guy’s bullshit.

midgetastic · 31/12/2022 14:32

There are loads of intellectual men in the world many of whom have much better moral values and humanity

DuplicateUserName · 31/12/2022 14:38

The bloke's a prick.

Let me give you a quote of his just in case you didn't realise it...

"Violent attacks are what happens when men do not have partners, and society needs to work to make sure those men are married."

Prick.

Do you have a link to where this quote is and what he has said before and after this?

poetryandwine · 31/12/2022 14:42

Agree with @housemaus and @CleoandRalf .

I understand JP’s appeal to teenage boys (I will confess to a very brief girlhood intellectual infatuation with a couple of Ayn Rand’s novels, though this now embarrasses me deeply). That any adult could find him clever is deeply depressing

Stick it into Google (I did).

There are lots of sources.

Is your Google down?

Its quite a well known quote from JP

I obviously did Google it, hence why I couldn't find him saying so, so asked..
Only people speaking about this quote.
What interview is this?

I’ve decided to believe the top few posters are being sarcastic because I can’t quite accept that some women would be thick enough to fall for this guy’s bullshit.

Yeah I was a bit taken aback, too.

But that's how he gets people, isn't it? He doesn't - at very first glance - look like a raving conspiracy theorist locked in his basement with access to a YouTube account. But that is ultimately what he is - he's just reasonably well-dressed and has read (and mixed together into an incomprehensible but academic-sounding mess) a lot and the thin veneer of respectability and his academic background covers up that he's just a right-wing nutjob who despises women and hates the idea that men like him might not be the centre of the universe any more.

If any women are reading this and thinking, oh no he seems like a nice chap, here are some of his more interesting views:

  • The patriarchy is based on competence, apparently
  • He believes in enforced monogamy to stop men becoming violent - he thinks the answer to incels and women being murdered is that we 'give' men an assigned woman to have sex with, and that way their poor little men feelings won't get hurt and they won't hurt anyone. Otherwise women will 'only go for the high status men' (i.e. select partners who they believe to be good partners, attractive, etc) and that's unfair on men, who then become violent. That is somehow our fault
  • He doesn't believe women were oppressed throughout history, calling the idea an 'appalling theory'

That middle one is essentially being an incel - and some women will say this guy is attractive

crochetmonkey74 · 31/12/2022 14:52

Oh my gosh. He is really not that clever. If you listen and engage with his arguments it's a lot of word salad dressed up to sound clever.

Notanotherone123 · 31/12/2022 14:56

Brains are sexy that goes without saying, what makes JP distinctly unsexy are the beliefs and views other posters have demonstrated he holds. So yes, if you find JP sexy YABVU

sammac82 · 31/12/2022 14:57

Not surprised those who are pro JP are also unable to use Google.

here you go, top result when googling what that poster wrote

Notimeforaname · 31/12/2022 15:01

I think he's brilliant. Hes helped change my life, at home but especially at work.

I hated him at first when I heard clips my partner would play in the background about 5 or 6 years ago.
Fell for the shocking quotes and snippets taken out of context. Took the time to really listen to him and read up on him and as I said he's helped my life in so many ways and opened my mind to so many things.
People treat me differently now based on how much more assertive I've become the difference in remarkable.

Some women are thick enough to not understand this, that’s the issue
Comments like this I have to laugh at. Of course anyone with a different opinion MUST be thick. I'll have to remember that next time I disagree with somebody.

Sparklesocks · 31/12/2022 15:02

Always think his breath must be honking with that diet of his.

Notimeforaname · 31/12/2022 15:03

But yes, I see how he can be attractive to some. He became more attractive to me after I'd watched the interview with his daughter and wife. They seem like a great family who really respect and support each other.

Stickytoff · 31/12/2022 15:03

I like a lot of what he has to say. He has a lot of interesting ideas. He is basically a deep thinker and is much more of a philosopher than an psychologist these days. His ideas that people need to cop on, take responsibility for themselves and no one is riding in to save anyone else are extremely important messages.

He is bonkers on women and people of colour though and he has a clear misunderstanding on the issues women and people of colour face.

I wrote this on another JP thread recently because in brief his message is in the past women and men were poor and so suffered horrendously but surely even he could see taking Afghanistan as a case study that under patriarchal impoverished systems women suffer more.

Notimeforaname · 31/12/2022 15:05

Always think his breath must be honking with that diet of his.
Actually, hes says he has cured his gum disease since being on the diet so if anything it must smell better 🤣
