Thoughts on her?

Just watching ‘I am Ruth’

OP posts:

Ah! So the problem is she didn’t behave like a naice young lady when young and incredibly famous?

and you’re still grudging her that nearly 30 years later?

wow!
Grin

😬 Hardly being begrudging. That's just all I remember about her. Plus she banged on about how everyone should be the way they are, and then appeared looking very different from how she looked when she was younger (her nose and gums seemed to have ... changed).

@PinsetAndTwirls was that after Extras? She was absolutely brilliant in that.

love her

I've never heard of Extras, I'm afraid. I remember her and fellow luvvie Emma Thompson wrecking Sense and Sensibility, though.

Datingagainat57 · 12/12/2022 22:55

I have worked with her and she’s absolutely lovely. Very grounded, kind and hard working. And madly talented!

I always think it's funny that she has 3 kids with 3 different dads and it never gets mentioned yet Kerry Katona and Katie Price get slated for their kids having the same amount of dads.

I don't think it's the number of dad's ratio. I think it's their personal behaviour that highlights the rest of their lives.

@Pantsomime , George Michael donated thousands anonymously to charities which only came to light after his death.

Double0FeckingBollocks · 13/12/2022 06:51

"AGAIN, if the OP IS Kate, she is hardly going to say so is she? I agree with the masses on here, Kate is an amazing ACTRESS! "

😂 @PurpleButterflyWings - YOU'RE Kate Winslet!

( calm down. I like her too!)

Janus · 13/12/2022 08:41

I lived very close to her when I lived in London many years ago. One morning I went to a mothers and baby gym type class and as we all sat down in a circle at the beginning I was sat next to Kate winslet! It did take me a little while to place her though! She was very friendly, I should have tried harder to be her new best friend!!!
I liked this show but some of the things she said to her daughter were awful!
Mare of Easttown was just amazing, one of the best shows of the last couple of years.

I liked her on Graham Norton, tiny bit LA-ish maybe but I laughed at her shitting herself on stage story.

Heard her on radio this week. She’s a bit over keen on self deprecating humour. Think that sometimes displays false modesty. But hard to judge a person through the medium of celebrity.

Devora13 · 13/12/2022 12:41

@PinsetAndTwirls nose and gums? REALLY?

ChessieFL · 13/12/2022 13:04

Her gums have changed?! What?!

Tamrastarr · 13/12/2022 13:35

Are you Kate Winslet OP?

ArcaneWireless · 13/12/2022 13:50

No. I’’m Kate Winslet

CulturePigeon · 13/12/2022 14:04

I'm sorry to be late to this thread, so apologies if this has already been said.

I quite like her as an actor, but nothing I've read or seen about the actual person endears her to me. She was on 'Who Do You Think You Are?' and was extremely grumpy, unsmiling, not very gracious to the various people she met and - for some reason best known to herself - obsessed with proving she wasn't 'posh'. Well, who cares?

To pps who cited her encounter with her former school bully, I heard that she was in fact quite nasty to this girl - rubbing her nose in the contrast between their work situations. I don't necessarily blame her for this - bullies need a reckoning in my view - but she isn't the saint some posters seem to want her to be!

Didn't she carry Richard Branson's mother/grandmother out of a burning house? If it's true I would say that not only is she beautiful and an incredible actress, but seriously brave.

This is from an article about Eve Branson....
Anyway, I’d just about got outside and the rain was pouring down and I didn’t have my contact lenses in, but I was making my way out and Kate and her two children were behind me. Then she just sort of picked me up and took me down four steps and that was it. I’m sorry, I can’t make a story out of it.” So she wasn’t, in fact, saved by Kate Winslet at all?

IcedPurple · 13/12/2022 14:59

Great actress, and she manages to 'disappear' completely unless she has a project to promote. Which shows it can be done.

Perfectpeace · 13/12/2022 20:44

Whiskeypowers · 12/12/2022 04:24

fairly limited range of insults haven’t you? 😂
bit of a reach to label me as bitter due to my questioning the emotional authenticity of a L’Oréal advert.

No, but I’d be banned for saying what I really think. Maybe get a hobby so you don’t have so much time to dwell on a random advert?

It’s just so sad

Devora13 · 13/12/2022 12:41

@PinsetAndTwirls nose and gums? REALLY?

Yes, really. But only because she has banged on about being just the way she is, and how other women should be like her and agree that cosmetic tweaks are bollocks unless she's the one who might have had them

PinsetAndTwirls · 13/12/2022 20:53

ChessieFL · 13/12/2022 13:04

Her gums have changed?! What?!

Yes. She used to show her entire top gum when she smiled. Now she doesn't. I can't remember the name for this procedure.

great actress (in most her parts)

‘I’m so normal’ Kate is pretentiousness and a total hypocrite she knew what Roman Polanski and Woody Allen are guilty of but it took the Me Too campaign to make her realise how awful they are 🙄 she was an established actress by then

Dartmoorcheffy · 13/12/2022 22:16

dp has met her when her car broke down as he is a breakdown mechanic and he says she was lovely and very polite

Fleurdaisy · 13/12/2022 22:19

I’m conflicted. Few years ago she gave a large amount of money ( exact amount undisclosed) to a Just Giving I was following. Her input helped the young woman get pioneering cancer treatment abroad so very generous of KW.
But I also saw a programme about her on TV where she was in makeup for a part and mouthed comments to the camera about the makeup artist, saying his breath stank. I thought that was nasty, if she had a problem with him, speak to him privately. If it was meant as a joke it was not funny.
So not sure, and I’ve not watched I am Ruth yet.

so first of all I’m bitter and now I dwell on a random advert both of which irk you to the point that you need to restrain yourself in terms of writing what you really think of me?
not me that needs a hobby ☺️

This is hilarious. They made it sound like she slung the woman over her shoulder and heroically navigated a burning building 🤣

Still think she's an incredible actress.
