Thoughts on her?

Just watching ‘I am Ruth’

OP posts:
PurpleButterflyWings · 11/12/2022 21:51

She is an amazing ACTRESS, and one of my favourite ACTRESSES ever. I love everything she has ever been in, and think she is brilliant. Her daughter Mia is following in her footsteps too.

I am also delighted to see that she looks normal, and looks her age, and has not gone down the road of many famous female celebrities, and got a face full of fillers and botox. She is pretty, she is a great actress, and she has ever made anything bad IMO. I loved her in Mare Of Easttown and hope there is a second series. I love her friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio too. It's so pure and genuine.

I also disagree that she is a luvvie. She seems quite down to earth and normal to me, especially seeing as how she is middle class, and has been a famous actress virtually since she was in her teens. She seems like someone you could have a few laughs and a few beers with at the pub.

Are you a fan @Breakfastfortea or, as a few posters have said, did you start this thread in the hope people would bash her?

2ManyPjs · 11/12/2022 21:53

Great actor and I bet she'd run a cracking pub.

BeforetheFlood · 11/12/2022 21:33

I'm slightly skeptical about the 'never been tweaked' face. As I recall, both she and Emma Thompson both made public statements denouncing cosmetic procedures and pledging to age naturally, but it seems like an incredible coincidence that they both show no signs of ageing whatsoever beyond a few laughter lines.

I have concluded (as a 50-something woman) that the definition of what constitutes 'anti-ageing procedures' can be very individual. I think KW brands herself as down to earth and unstarry, but she is indeed a very good actress, and it probably takes a Hollywood A list budget to look that glowingly natural.

Whaaaat? 'no signs of ageing whatsoever' is just not true.

They both look their ages with associated wrinkles. And they both look perfectly fine.

FurAndFeathers · 11/12/2022 21:17

Ah! So the problem is she didn’t behave like a naice young lady when young and incredibly famous?

and you’re still grudging her that nearly 30 years later?

wow!
Grin

I am halfway through I am Ruth and am enjoying it and her performance more than i thought I would.

The “you are enough”‘while she wipes her make up off in that L’Oréal advert is debatable though and I found it a bit tone deaf in the current circumstances

Tone deaf to what current circumstances? My mind is a blank, Whiskey, please would you explain?

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 11/12/2022 21:55

Whilst I do think she's a bit of a luvvie that's not to say luvvies can't be nice people and great fun etc. I used to work in theatre and met many luvvly luvvies!

TeachesOfPeaches · 11/12/2022 20:30

I always think it's funny that she has 3 kids with 3 different dads and it never gets mentioned yet Kerry Katona and Katie Price get slated for their kids having the same amount of dads.

That’s probably because she doesn’t sell photos and stories of/with them to the tabloid press, or have them feature in reality TV shows. She also doesn’t draw attention to herself for having a drug/plastic surgery/bankruptcy problem. She manages to keep her private life more or less private and for that we are very grateful.

Chevybaby · 11/12/2022 21:59

I like to think OP is actually Kate winslet on a burner account

Have you seen the advert ?
telling us all to remind ourselves we are
enough. While removing her artfully applied make up from a face that is comparatively free of the average woman’s stress despite the fact she is being wheeled out by L’Oréal on that very platform: the “normal”’woman

I would find it easy to tell myself i am enough if that’s all I had to worry about and deal with ie loving myself and not having a fuck tonne of worries .
Wonder if she hoped the mother of the disabled child whose utility bill she paid followed that mantra prior to or since?

Hope that clears it up for you.

RethinkingLife · 11/12/2022 22:06

Yes!

There was a Twitter thread in which Winslet relayed a conversation she'd had with her son about how amazing Marcus Rashford is and how much she admired him for his actions over free school meals. Winslet and her siblings had relied on FSM during their childhood so she understood just what it meant to the children who'd be missing out on them.

She came across as very grounded.

SallyWD · 11/12/2022 22:06

Like her as actress. I did cringe when she was at some awards ceremony, tearfully going on and on about how much she loved Leonardo de Caprio. It was just so lovey and embarrassing.

Hellybelly84 · 11/12/2022 22:08

DillDanding · 11/12/2022 20:22

I'm sure she is very talented, but I saw her on Graham Norton the other night and she was very unlikeable.

I thought the complete opposite-no fake face and honest, funny stories. Usually the Hollywood actresses struggle to move their face on Graham Norton 😂 I love how normal she seems.

Hellybelly84 · 11/12/2022 22:11

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 11/12/2022 21:35

She has plenty of lines though. Her forehead crinkles up in a completely natural way.

I saw her on Graham Norton and my first thought was ‘im so glad she’s got lines on her forehead, wrinkles under her eyes and she can smile normally’ (ive got all of the above before 40!). We get so used to the Hollywood face, its almost a shock to see someone looking their actual age!

MattDamon · 11/12/2022 22:16

Love her acting, don't really follow her personal life but she'd had the 'up her own arse' attitude since she was 20. I thought it was great, she had zero interest in sucking up to others.

Eaumyword · 11/12/2022 22:17

I like her. Ageing gracefully and naturally, an excellent actress with plenty of range and seems to be a nice person. I tend to like most of whatever she's in.
I was very moved by I am Ruth and thought she and her daughter were superb in it.
Also enjoyed Graham Norton - they were all very funny this week.

plicks · 11/12/2022 22:21

One of the few famous British actors who didn't go to public school 👏

My days, you sound so very bitter

my days you are a patronising so and so
i am fairly ambivalent towards Kate winslet her life is far removed from mine and yours I suspect. I do, however , feel quite entitled to take umbrage with someone in her position telling me to remind myself I am
enough when the circumstances in which She and I are likely to require this affirmation being poles apart

Geilenk · 11/12/2022 22:28

When I was a teenager, living in Germany, I used to babysit for her ex husband, James Threapleton.

MsAmerica · 11/12/2022 22:31

@Breakfastfortea #Breakfastfortea

Can you - or anyone - tell me why posts like these end up in AIBU? This forum is stuffed with threads that would seem better suited to other specific forums.

Thisbastardcomputer · 11/12/2022 22:31

She's a very good actress and I'm thinking a very good person, didn't she donate £17k to a family to cover electricity costs for a disabled child.

IrmaGord · 11/12/2022 22:32

Jesus @Whiskeypowers have you never seen an advert before? It's not that deep.

Do you go into Home Bargains and yell at Live, Laugh, Love signs as well?

OwlingAround · 11/12/2022 22:34

I’ve always thought she seemed lovely. Great actress. Seems grounded.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 11/12/2022 22:34

She's great. Versatile, assured actress.

I haven't seen the work she did with her daughter, but judging by some of the reviews Mia Threapleton was very good. Nepotistic? Well perhaps, but Diana Rigg also worked with her daughter and there were no adverse comments there. They were fantastic together, Rachael Stirling having earned accolades as an actress in her own right. She's the image of her beautiful mum, too.
