Thoughts on her?

Just watching ‘I am Ruth’

OP posts:

I always think she is a proper actress. She is not afraid of playing parts where she appears plain and ordinary. I loved her in Hideous Kinky. She is brilliant acting with little children.

Ponoka7 · 12/12/2022 07:59

I like her for her political views. She gives a good interview on the subject. In the last interview, the presenter was saying that Spielberg was asking people to go to the cinema and she changed it to "if you can afford to, it's worth going to the cinema". She talked about the emotional cost of that family she helped if the daughter had to do into care, but then how ridiculous it was that the government would pay five times the amount to pay for care, rather than help families and how disgusting it was that people had to go into care, because they couldn't afford to live at home. She's still in touch with her upbringing and the effects of being on a low income. I respect her for that. We need to stop glorifying those on high wages and the hoarding of money.

I liked that one too. Might give it a re-watch!

Conky1975 · 12/12/2022 18:07

@PinsetAndTwirls was that after Extras? She was absolutely brilliant in that.

love her

workshy46 · 12/12/2022 18:12

She is amazingly talented. She is so good in everything and that's rare especially as time goes one where others seem to just play the same version over and over again (Frances McDormand). No idea what she is like personally but people who work with her all seem to like her.

Tigofigo · 12/12/2022 18:16

She seems pretty down to earth and tries to keep things normal for her family given how famous she is. I imagine she's not alone in that in Hollywood though. She has a nice car.

WednesdaysChild11 · 12/12/2022 18:17

Impressive I think. I enjoyed watching it. I didn't agree with her character at times..her approach to things i.e yelling at her daughter to sit down (it was enough imo that her daughter had come down to talk to her), not wanting her daughter to speak to the counsellor on her own etc.. I feel like the mum wasn't very sensible at times...

@704703hey That’s the thing, I was just thinking I don’t know much about her at all, just curious what type of person she is.
Did she really save her from a fire 🙈

Would you not be quicker Googling or look up Wikipedia ?

Fiat500c · 12/12/2022 18:31

Agree. I think it's a class thing

Teakind · 12/12/2022 18:46

Fantastically talented actress. She always seems very dignified too.

rosemarysalter · 12/12/2022 18:49

Great woman. Great actor. She seems to be down to earth and relatable even though she's a Hollywood star

CosmopolitanPlease · 12/12/2022 18:52

She's beautiful but in an achievable, next door sort of way; naturally lovely.

She was very warm and likeable in her Who Do You Think You Are? And I loved her in Eternal Sunshine etc.

Double0FeckingBollocks · 12/12/2022 19:00

Are you .... are you KATE WINSLET, @Breakfastfortea ?

Squirrelsnut · 12/12/2022 19:03

She was overweight when young, and always does her own makeup. I like her, she seems very talented.

CarefreeMe · 12/12/2022 19:06

I love her.
She seems really down to Earth.

What I hadn’t realised is how much body shaming she endured after being in titanic, as she was curvier than the actresses at the time and lots of people said she was too fat to play the role.

AGAIN, if the OP IS Kate, she is hardly going to say so is she? Wink I agree with the masses on here, Kate is an amazing ACTRESS! Grin

Clawdy · 12/12/2022 19:20

Mare of Easttown - amazing.

Devora13 · 12/12/2022 19:26

@AllOfThemWitches
Ah yes I was thinking Extras! Seemed to be largely talented actors making fun of themselves.

Wishimaywishimight · 12/12/2022 19:29

She was fabulous in Mare of Eastown.

wentworthinmate · 12/12/2022 19:37

cyrila · 11/12/2022 20:59

Good actress but find her an unbearable luvvie.

I agree.

LadyKenya · 12/12/2022 19:42

TeachesOfPeaches · 11/12/2022 20:30

I always think it's funny that she has 3 kids with 3 different dads and it never gets mentioned yet Kerry Katona and Katie Price get slated for their kids having the same amount of dads.

Well they are not middle class, are they? They also do not sound poooshhh. I think she is a good actress. I do not think that she comes across as particularly likeable though.

witchesbubblebath · 12/12/2022 19:58

I can imagine her being a very authentic person in real life. That's only through her acting in 'I am Ruth' and also the Graham Norton show that has been mentioned previously

Proudofitbabe · 12/12/2022 20:16

Good actress who gives toe-curlingly annoying awards speeches.

Chuck2015 · 12/12/2022 20:19

I love her, Mare of Easttown was incredible, for non fans, watch her in this and I challenge you not to change your mind

Legallypinkish · 12/12/2022 20:50

I think she’s lovely. Lives locally but never seen her.
