She comes over well as a normal person and has engineered her career to be a 'real' woman in her 40s on screen

I think people don't really get how hard that would be, to get enough kudos/goodwill and money behind her to transition to 'not only being pretty on screen'

This works is UTTER SHITE for women on screen and she's gone all the way to making it

She got married in the Crooked Billet near Reading...I've been to a wedding there, less grand than Kate's but there was still a Moscow Mule bar and a menu when we sat down to the wedding breakfast with three choices for each course. It's far from 'a little pub' (very beautiful and very lovely though, well worth a visit). The taxi driver told us that he'd driven Kate's mum a couple of times, and apparently, according to her mother, Kate gets what Kate wants ( the taxi driver then said her mother did an eyeroll).

But that's as mean as it gets OP, and tbh I quite like a woman who knows what she wants, so I liked her better after that story!

My own eyeroll came when I read that she was starring with her daughter. Just what the world needs, more celebrity nepotism....

I don’t know what she’s like in real life but as an actor I think she’s brilliant.

The young Kate is superb in Heavenly Creatures, the first film I saw her in.

It was the "ladette" era, so she was basically copying the worst behaviour that men should have grown out of long before young women started emulating it in the 90s.

I recall she was always lovely to the in-house journo and photographer in the Airport series set in Heathrow decades ago.

Anyone else think that Keira Knightly and Kate could be big-age-gap sisters? Or I could be losing it.

I find her attractive and I like her acting.

But she's made a living at and is known for her acting ability. The other two are known for having multiple kids with multiple men. That's neither here nor there, Kate Winslet is respected as an actress. The others have exploited their personal lives for cash.

Probably because she has never sold her soul to the devil in the same way and earned money and made a career out of selling her life.

She is a well-respected, talented actor who had earned her "fame" through her actual profession.

The last few things i have seen her in, she has been amazing in. I am Ruth wasn't my cup of tea, but i can appreciate her acting talents in it.

She has a refuse lorry named in her honour in Reading - Kate Binslet.

She's quite luvvie-ish but I like her all the same. Always puts in a great performance. Beautiful face that hasn't been messed around with, and I'm sure when you're in showbiz the temptation to have a little tweak here and there must be huge.

I loved it. I thought she was brilliant. One thing seemed less convincing though: would the daughter have actually been able to break her smart phone in real life? The ending may have been a bit too optimistic.

Felt sorry for her when her marriage to Sam Mendes ended. I got the impression she didn't see that coming.

As a pre-teen I thought she was the most beautiful celebrity ever and was gobsmacked when I learnt that people thought she was fat.

She's great in Extras.

I saw her out walking her dog with her dh last year in Sussex - where she lives. She stood aside for me to go past them on a narrow path. She smiled at me. She seemed lovely, friendly, and unaffected.

I am halfway through I am Ruth and am enjoying it and her performance more than i thought I would.
The “you are enough”‘while she wipes her make up off in that L’Oréal advert is debatable though and I found it a bit tone deaf in the current circumstances

Always liked her , but even more so after she paid that family’s energy bill .

I can absolutely believe that. Her family don't seem to like her very much. I remember seeing her mother do an interview and she said something along the lines of Kate is a crap actress and her sister (Beth?) should have been the star, because she had all the talent. Tbh, her family sound awful.

I personally think she's a fabulous actor. She has that quality where you can't look away from her when she's onscreen. She comes across as a bit of a luvvie irl, so I don't tend to watch many interviews with her, but she is an amazingly talented performer.
