How much alcohol does your DH/DP drink weekly? (Average)

Wanting to know as DH claims his drinking is below average for a man his age (mid 30s)
I disagree
Just a general idea would be nice so I could show him!

That was to@Eggygirl

ScruffGin · 28/10/2022 22:34

Mine doesn't really drink, maybe two beers over the weekend.
However I tend to have a glass or two of wine most nights... Probably should cut down to his level 😂

autienotnaughty · 28/10/2022 22:35

Saturday night- 4-6 bottles of beer
Sunday - 1-2 beers
Occasionally a brandy

Quornflakegirl · 28/10/2022 22:39

Dh has one bottle of beer most evenings. I rarely drink, perhaps 5 units a year at most.

WisherWood · 28/10/2022 22:42

I think comparisons of averages aren't much use. If the average person is drinking more than they should according to health guidance, then the average isn't healthy.

My DP has days when he doesn't drink at all and often has dry months. But generally on many nights he'll have a bottle or two of beer. Heavier drinking nights he might have 3 beers and a nightcap of whisky or similar. Laying into large amounts of spirits isn't healthy. And a litre of vodka per week is a large amount.

If it's causing problems, it doesn't matter what other people are drinking. What matters is the problems.

PollyEsther · 28/10/2022 22:44

It’s quite telling how the snippy responses are only towards those who aren’t excessive with their intake. Perhaps those who drink more are sensitive about it after all… one person’s choice isn’t an attack on your own.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/10/2022 22:50

Mine will have a few beers on a Saturday night if at home. If he's out about 8 pints but depends really. He doesn't go out that often though.

Chazx · 28/10/2022 22:53

My DH drinks maybe 2-3 times per month. Each time is probably 3-4 lagers. So max of 12 pints of beer a month.

Used to be a shit load more, maybe 1.5 bottles of wine and 4 gins on both friday and saturday. So 3 bottles of wine and 8 gins every single weekend.

Doesn't have time for it anymore and has become more sports and hobbies oriented. They start early in morning at the weekend.

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/10/2022 22:55

A bottle of wine or some gins once a week is the average

Weesweetiewife · 28/10/2022 22:58

This thread is bollocks

Mrsmch123 · 28/10/2022 22:58

We used to drink a litter a vodka at the weekend between the two of us. Now maybe two/three vodkas every 4 months or so....it's just not the same when you have a young one to get up to the next day😂🙈

CheesesandWines · 28/10/2022 22:59

Men should drink no more than 14 units a week.

mrsed1987 · 28/10/2022 23:02

None.

God yes. So many people clearly very sensitive about how much they drink.
I'm not one of the "thimble at Christmas brigade" (and what a lazy put down that is, too) - it's more like I can't be arsed to drink any more and nor can DH, really.

In our late teens, 20s and into early 30s we were proper party animals but then it just seemed a bit boring after 20-odd years of booze and pubs and bad heads the morning after.

Not drinking means we have more time in the evenings to do other stuff. We can go out for meals, or to the pub, or to parties, and drive home after - avoiding taxis or logistical nightmares. We're both fresh for the kids on Saturday and Sunday mornings and able to do fun stuff without feeling crap. And it's a lot easier to train for running/cycling/yoga/ whatever when you're never pissed or hungover.

Don't get me wrong, I'll have a glass of wine occasionally if it's a good wine or the occasion calls for it, but I'm talking 1 maybe 2 glasses a year. I know it sounds judgey as fuck, but I don't get the reasoning of grown adults who spend a load of money on booze (prosecco o clock! Bottomless brunch! Etc etc) that only makes them feel crap the morning after. If you can't have fun sober then you're pretty fucking boring imo...

Mushroo · 28/10/2022 23:07

mid thirties, no kids. Usually no drinks Mon - Thurs but will occasionally go to the pub for 2 pints.

friday night we’ll share a bottle of wine and maybe have a can of beer each. Same on Saturday.

might have wine with Sunday lunch but not always.

gogohmm · 28/10/2022 23:08

We share wine maybe once a week he has 2/3 usually. We go to the pub once or twice a week for a few drinks, varies how much

gogohmm · 28/10/2022 23:10

@baxtersm @Eggygirl

I was thinking the same thing, I admit he definitely drinks more than 21 units and me more than 14 though not by a lot

Ducksinthebath · 28/10/2022 23:11

Do you still get enjoyment from the pub without drinking?

hollyivysaurus · 28/10/2022 23:11

He has a couple of beers on a Wednesday, a couple of whiskies on a Friday and half a bottle of Prosecco on a Saturday. Obviously more if there is some kind of family get together or work do. I don’t think it’s excessive!

Ducksinthebath · 28/10/2022 23:11

Sorry, meant to quote @trailrunner85

MadamGardener · 28/10/2022 23:20

DH hasn’t had a drink since 1996, we live rurally and he never wants to be unable to take someone to A&E if needed because of having a drink.
I generally have either a bottle of Baileys or single malt at Christmas.

Dorisbonson · 28/10/2022 23:22

2-3 pints or half a bottle of wine twice a week and 1-2 small cans of beer once a week.

He used to drink about 50 units a week before children!

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 28/10/2022 23:28

DP is 38 and only drinks maybe once a month if that. It’s more of special occasions... Christmas, birthdays etc. I don’t drink at all, haven’t done since I was 15... guess it makes sense when you had a few alcoholics in the family.

DrGlenda · 28/10/2022 23:31

DH drinks more than he should, probably about 8-12 pint cans of beer/lager a week. He’ll have a glass of his fancy whiskey at times too. It’s recently become more apparent to me he drinks too much but he’s not loud/shouty/abusive he’s very mellow so it’s taken over a decade for me to start noticing his drinking pattern isn’t healthy. He acknowledges it but claims it’s not an issue, his parents drink a bottle of wine between them most nights so I imagine that’s where it’s stemmed from.

VampiresWife · 28/10/2022 23:36

DH drinks about 10 440ml craft beer cans a weekend, plus a couple of cocktails. We don't have any friends or family so he doesn't go out drinking.
