How much alcohol does your DH/DP drink weekly? (Average)

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:12

Wanting to know as DH claims his drinking is below average for a man his age (mid 30s)
I disagree
Just a general idea would be nice so I could show him!

My god, where do all these teetotal people live? This is an anonymous forum, you know, not your GP asking how many units a week you drink

I was thinking the exact same!!! Lol

Goldencarp · 28/10/2022 20:14

None. My DH never drinks. He used to drink a fair amount, 8 cans a night or more and one day, 10 years ago realised it was a problem and just stopped.

Interested in how it became a problem?

We share a bottle of wine on Friday night usually. Maybe two pints if we go to the pub. A third would be an issue.

Why would it be an issue, and for whom?

I did suspect this . Makes my Dh look like a raving alcoholic 😐🤨

This is so predictable, a thimble a week brigade will be out.

H has 5 or 6 beers on Friday / Saturday. I have a bottle of wine

Spookyscary · 28/10/2022 20:29

Dh is 38.

He has 1-2 cans of beer on a Friday evening (not every single week).

If we go out he will have 1-2 pints.

Never more than that.

7Worfs · 28/10/2022 20:29

Mine is mid-30s too and doesn’t drink at all, but has other vices (too much chocolate and gaming).

bigbluebus · 28/10/2022 20:29

DH has had 2 bottles of beer this evening. We are out with friends tomorrow evening so I expect he'll have 4 or 5 pints. Then if we have a roast on Sunday he'll have a couple of glasses if wine. If we weren't out tomorrow night he'd probably have a couple of pints at home. He doesn't generally drink at all in the week.

SirMoose · 28/10/2022 20:30

Most night he will have 2 or 3 but I have managed to train him I to having non alcoholic beers every other night as drinking every night was getting a bit worrying!

JorisBonson · 28/10/2022 20:30

Varies massively because he works shifts. Some weeks nothing. Most "normal" evenings maybe a beer / glass of wine with his dinner. Had a few beers and maybe a whiskey when his set of shifts finishes. Few nights out with me / friends each month with varying degrees of booziness.

I am enjoying the competitive under drinking!

MrsMacnair · 28/10/2022 20:30

The odd cider once in a blue moon, I think the last time he had alcohol was August He’ll maybe have one or two at Christmas. But other that he’s not a drinker. He bought a crate of cider well over 6 months ago there’s only two gone!

I don’t drink at all so other than the cider don’t have alcohol in the house

Blossomtoes · 28/10/2022 20:31

Don’t count me in the thimble a week brigade. Mine’s a recovering alcoholic, he was drinking two bottles of wine and half a bottle of vodka a day before he stopped completely.

mynameiscalypso · 28/10/2022 20:31

I have been quite surprised at how little people of my age - also mid thirties - drink these days. I met up with a group of uni mates for a 'boozy' Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. Two of us had one glass of wine each and the rest were drinking soft drinks. We were a hard partying group in our youth!

JazzTheDog · 28/10/2022 20:32

None unless we go out, neither of us tend to drink at home but do enjoy a good night out if we can get a taxi home (live rurally).

Goinghome20 · 28/10/2022 20:32

Mine drinks a few cans every Saturday afternoon in front of the football results.

If we go out he might have a couple of beers. I'm not a drinker but I dont mind him having a few.

He doesnt seem pissed but it does make him tired, he is usually asleep by 10!

Party animal he is not!

A580Hojas · 28/10/2022 20:32

Half a bottle of wine 3 or 4 nights a week. Occasional night out when he might have 3 pints of beer (say once a month).

PurplePixies · 28/10/2022 20:34

Nothing. Both of us had a parent who drank too much so we won't pass that horrible childhood misery onto our children. ☹️

Spookyscary · 28/10/2022 20:35

@PurplePixies same here. That's why I rarely drink, having a drinker as a parent is enough to make you teetotal.

Workyticket · 28/10/2022 20:35

Dh has a bottle, maybe 2 of lager most nights. I rarely drink in the house

We're out with a big group of mutual pals 2m - same group but we'll part ways at the first or 2nd pub door and meet up at various parts of the night and to come home as we each have people we want to catch up with

I expect we'll both be well oiled at the end of the night - we have big drink nights like this or just us 2 out every couple of months.

Floralnomad · 28/10/2022 20:35

My husband is in his 60s and drinks no alcohol , our son is 29 and also drinks no alcohol .

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/10/2022 20:35

2 to 3 bottles of wine a week. Making an effort to get it closer to 2 for health reasons.

MrsJBaptiste · 28/10/2022 20:35

Too much but that goes for both of us.

This week we've been out on Wednesday (5 beers), Thursday (4 beers) and will be in town tomorrow so that will be much more than usual and much more than we should have in one week.

We'll have a better week next week as he's only out once with friends and I'm seeing family who don't drink a lot.

cheninblanc · 28/10/2022 20:36

4 or 5 beers every Friday and Saturday and maybe 2 or 3 on a Sunday. I also drink on these days. User name self explanatory

TheGirlWhoLived · 28/10/2022 20:37

Mine drinks around 2litres of lager a night (four cans plus one or two 500ml bottles) rarely has a night off (one perhaps a month) he is a big bloke so holds it well but I’m concerned for his health!

FelicityFlops · 28/10/2022 20:37

DH is a pilot, so nothing unless we are on holiday, when he MIGHT have a small glass of dry white wine with dinner.
